For the worthless...
Alright, so I am worthless. I have not gone through a tragedy, no death, abandonment, no catastrophe like all the others. I am just an anti-social, useless teenager. I have been depressed off of failure for about 2 years. I have accomplished anything worth while in life for so long. I have not been diagnosed, but I think I have clinical depression, if I am even good enough for that. I just have had no purpose or drive for 2 years and I am sick of it... This is for anyone else depressed with no tragedy or death. I want to meet others similar to me because I am not good enough to be the only one. I am never that special.![]()
I'd love to talk with you. I have felt just like you. I hadpanic disorder before any real trauma happened in my life.Would you like to set up a time to talk? Private message me if you'd like.
hey, i know this feeling and it's one of the worst :c depression doesn't always come with tragedies or trauma. it can simply be caused by a lack of serotonin production in your brain. serotonin is the chemical that causes happiness, and a lack of it can make you feel lethargic, worthless, sad, tired, and like the world is bleak and hopeless.
one of the hardest things for me to come to terms with about my own depression was that it wasn't caused by any external factors... it was just my brain and chemical balances playing tricks on me. i take antidepressants now and function much better. i also had some counseling to help change my mindset and to find things that i wanted to focus on in the world.
you don't have to take medication if you don't want to, though! that's just been my own experience. any medical decisions you make need to be between you and your doctor.
but i don't believe you are anywhere near as worthless as you think. i've been in a place where i felt worthless, like life was not worth living... and now every day feels like a gift. i'm happy, i have things in my life that i like, and i am able to make a difference by listening to people on this website and helping them with their problems.
sometimes volunteer work can help people who suffer from depression! it helps to let them know that they are making a difference, and that the world is a little brighter for them being in it.
there are also self-indulgent rituals that you can do, like taking warm baths with pretty scented candles or going for walks in quiet places.
i'd love to talk to you sometime. my inbox is always open.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Here is my issue. When one is good at nothing, and in comparison everyone else has at least two talents and skills. It is easy for me to latch on and actually take pride (the only pride that I have) in depression. I have successfully cloaked my depression, survived it (though it is not at all severe in comparison to anyone else's depression), I have a retarded sense of pride that dictates that if I end it, I must end it... with no aid. I started this with no external fault, and I intend to finish it the same way.
You know what's also pretty lame? Having those one or two talents and having society laugh in your face over them.
If I mention out loud that I'm in the humanities department, I swear I can hear the condescending snickering from across state borders.
But honestly, most people overlook the things they're good at because they come so naturally to you that you don't even think to consider them talents.
As an example, after having moved to a city... I realized how many people know absolutely nothing about animals (even common pets) or wildlife. It's something I grew up with. Just like I can't cook to save my life... but people down here tend to be gourmet chefs. It's really easy to take things like that for granted. And I say this even while feeling worthless myself.
It's hard to change the perspective you have of yourself. Especially when you're suffering from depression. It tends to help if you have an unbiased outside source to give you a wake up call (so to speak). Someone to provide you with a little clarity. If you don't like the idea of relying on someone else... you could try seeing them as just a temporary tool to help instigate an argument between yourself and the you that's always putting you down. If that makes any sense.
I understand how you feel though. I really do. Down to the stubborn and unhelpful sense of pride. I genuinely hope you can either find a way past that or somehow use it to your advantage.
Nothing changes in my life, and I lack the motivation to do anything about it. Everyday is the same scenario with one or two repeated variables. So there is nothing to overlook or anything that can help me. I am willing to wager that that unbiased opinion will not say anything that I did not already figure out (the only advantage to staying silent everyday, I can think). I am actually too scared to express my opinions at my worst on this site for the chance of giving my listener a taste of worthlessness that can effect them. And you know that unbiased source? I bet that if they have read this, in fact everyone that has read this and replied, feels pity for me. They do not put forth their true opinions so that feelings will be spared. I guarantee that if people had to tell the truth on this forum, there would be nothing but insults and criticism.
I am undeserving of pity, for everyone on this site has had it far, far worse than me. I am just being overly dramatic or something. I am willing to bet that I am not even really depressed, just wishing that I had that excuse for my worthlessness. Just wanted to clarify.

you are not worthless, lame, or inexcusable. no one's pain is unwarranted. pain is pain. you feel it, and that is what makes it yours. your journey. no one else's. no one will ever know truly how you feel. and if that person or persons can't see that you are a deserving person, that feels pain, sorrow, loneliness, lack of ambition; if those persons can't come to the realization that they have or will be at your point at least once in this life time, then they are not worth talking to about this. it's a waste of your time. never let anyone have a negative influence on you. if there are people in your life that are so toxic that they tell you to your face that you are worthless, or annoying, or not interesting or what have you, then they are not friends, nor loved ones. they are people that seek to cause you harm. you cannot allow anyone to put you down. "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent" - Eleanor Roosevelt. that includes YOU. this life is so big and wonderful an beautiful, so much so that it is useless to let YOURSELF down. you are your power. you are your own best friend. and like my mother says ' you got mad in the same pants you were happy in' always wake up each day with a big smile on your face. and ya know, if none of this works, then you my friend are still normal. next you need mental activity and exercise. if that doesn't work, you may need antidepressants. AND DON'T EVER THINK THAT THAT IS IN SOME WAY GIVING UP. chemical imbalances are a correctible condition. and nothing to be ashamed of. help is always warranted. :) be safe, stay strong. do it for you!!!!
You need to snap out of it. Now, you can't just kick the depression's ass out of you it's not that easy, but you can get it out of your head temporarily. Everytimeyou start having this kind of thoughts, STOP, told yourself to STOP THINKING anddoother things. Distracting yourself with cat videos, pewdiepie or movies, or books (but don't use sad things). Go out, shopping, browsing, eating something you love or simply just take a walk. Call your friends and tell them you want to meet them. JUST STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. Don't get yourself too deep in these thoughts, you'll reach the point when you start having a breakdown and it will get worse. You might kill yourself in that state. If you start to think about suicide gotothe closest mental health hospital immediately. Anti-depressants helps a lots, too, THERE IS NO NEED TO FEEL ASHAMED USING IT. You are NOTcrazy, attention-seeking, self-hallucinating, you are just sick, think about it like a bad flu. That's all there to it. I suggest you go to the doctor and get your medication. It helps a lot in my case :) Stay strong and don't give up
Well right off the bat, you have your youth. Do not underestimate this superpower. The older I get the more I miss it. Yet youth is both a gift and a curse. Youth's kryptonite is the unlimited number of possibilities life can bring. But don't let this get you down. Really figure out what you like. I mean what makes you happy? Then get into it. Try not to listen to negative thoughts. I have yet to meet someone who had nothing going for them at all. So, keep pushing my friend, your hard work will pay off:)
Yes, pain is pain. But the pain I have gone through is pain everyone else can get past easily. I fell on what others just run past. And others... they will want to talk to me. Just like all of you. The problem is that if they try to talk, to make me feel better, they are just wasting time that they could be using on something productive. As for being inferior, I am. I gave up on arguing that point with myself a year ago, it would be like denying that the sky is blue. I am in a total agreement that if you compare me, my traits, my skills, with that of 85% of people; I will come up short. I have tried to distract myself, it just takes all day on Youtube and leaves me feeling even more inferior afterwards. And, sorry, but nothing can change my stubborn mind about doctors or medication, heck I was heasitent to try this site. So thanks for all of the wonderful and optomistic advice, but it would be better if you helped another person who needs it more.
I speak to so many people who believe their problem, issue or concern is not serious enough or is nothing compared to other people's.It really is not a competition and if you are feeling really upset then it does not matter what the cause is so much more the emotion behind it which is of course valid.I really hope you feel able to speak to one of the listeners on the site because the way I see it and I have mentioned this many times before , if you were to lose a limb the fact someone else lost 3 does not take away from your pain or loss.We all want to help you so please reach out :)
No, but it means that the person who needs the help the most should get help first. I can survive, and I gaurantee that if you look above or below this Thread, you will see how pathetic my issues are. So seriously everyone, please do not post to this Thread anymore when you efforts could be used help someone who needs it.
Hello Guest!
I've read what this forum is about and I've seen my fellow listeners? offer you alternatives that have not soundappealingenough for you.I am willing to tell you my story, a story in which I hope you can find a bit of you in it as I find a bit of my in what you post. But for this, I ask you to make a deal with me: You must give the chat with me a try or at the very list send me a message about how you feel right now. I will reply and if you like I will tell you my story. I do not post it here for two reasons. 1-I prefer the details of my life not to be so public and 2-because I have faith in you even when you can?t find it in yourself.
Trust me when I say I know how it feel to consider yourself pathetic and worthless. Give me a chance to try and prove you you are not alone in this, that?s all I?m asking for. This is not about losing time and this is not about saving someone that doesn?t want to be saved by another, this is about you taking a chance. Are you willing to take the risk and accept my offer?
Hopefully your answer will be a yes?
Warm Regards,
Iara
You know what I am turning thirty and I completely understand where you are coming from. But please you are young, you have the time to change,if you just keep worrying about it and do nothing about it, it just gets worse.I am in that situation because I haven't grown at all, all these years just worrying that I am not good enough. You know what my brain said ' well you are damm right about it' so here I am jobless, still comparing myself, also hiding myself because I am ashamed of where I have landed myself. Part of it can be blamed on depression. So be brave and try ....
