How has depression affected your sleep habit?
Depression can have serious and mild affects in our sleeping patterns or habit.
How has depression affected your sleep pattern or habit?
Will love to hear from you
I have been waking up between 3am-4am, 3 days in a row because I've been worrying about things. I even went to bed earlier last night, before 10pm. When I first woke up, it was only 10:59pm, and I thought it was at least 1am. Going to be another long day at work. I should try and get some sleep now~
My sleeping schdule went from not sleeping enough to over sleeping. I'm trying to keep a consistent sleep schedule now though, so hopefully it will smoothen out soon enough.
@comfortcoffee04 well done! I am proud of you for working on your sleep schedule!
I haven't slept in 3 days... 😕
@orangeappled2000 The agony of insomnia is so difficult to cope with. Insomnia reduces quality of life and makes depression and anxiety worse. You can take steps to improve the quality of your sleep via good sleep hygine.

This is the DBT evidence-based sleep hygiene protocol. Please give it a try, and feel free to message me if you have any questions!
I always wake up at either 2am or 3am and am often awake for hours. Sometimes I get woken up by a pounding heart. Then the mind goes into overdrive.
You are not alone, I get 3-5 hours a night and mind is in overdrive as soon as wake up. Hang in there every body
@Mysterymango
Wow, didnt know many others could relate! When i am depressed, i tend to wake up with uncomfortable and unsettling feelings in my chest and stomach, i get emotional and my mind starts to race.
There are days where I don't sleep at all, days where I sleep so little (3-4 hours) and there are days where I sleep more than 12 hours but no matter how much I sleep I'm always tired
I'm late to this, but it's made me so tired all the time. I sleep and sleep, once even for nearly 17 hours, but I never feel energetic, no matter how much time I spend trying to will myself to face another day :(
@violetshadow
I feel you on this. Sometimes I can sleep for 13 or 14 hours, but eventually my anxiety gets too loud and my heart starts pounding..
I am never able to have a proper night's sleep, as I enter my bed around 12-2am and every single time I am close to resting and slowing my heartbeat, I get the impulse to wake up fully and start all over again. I can get roughly 5 hours of sleep.
when my depression starts getting bad, my sleep is the first to go, and its never gentle. 1-2 days of no sleep on average depending on the severity of the depression. the max was 4 days. one of my therapists told me once "if youre not tired there is no point laying in bed waiting to fall asleep, youll just end up staring at the ceiling or your eyelids for hours on end. get up, have a shower, eat something, do some self care things... but on the flip side... if youre tired, Sleep! no phones, no computers, no movies, go ot bed and sleep"... not sure where this lies in your guides, but thats what i do.
Depression really affects a sleeping habit. I wake up almost every night and can't fall asleep again. Then I feel tired and exhausted the whole day. Fortunately, we have two swivel recliners in the living room. Usually, I spend most of the night sitting in one of them. They are so comfortable and help me to relax and even fall asleep.
I don't go to sleep until around 1am, and have to get up at 6:30am for work. I'm tired all day, but I can't decompress when I get home until after my kids are in bed.
