One thing that triggers my depression is....

Seeing how well my best friend succeeds at everything, just because she's prettier than me. I would never do anything to hurt her, but it really hurts sometimes that she gets to keep the job we were competing for solely because she's prettier than me.

Losing things triggers my depression. I've always been a bit absentminded and my parents have always berated me for losing things or leaving my window unlocked or not closing the curtain and such-like, so when I inexplicably lose things I instantly feel really bad. I get very angry at myself which then turns into me feeling generally bad and then worthless and then depressed, I usually start to self-harm soon after. My girlfriend has stopped me from severely damaging myself too many times after I've just lost my keys or a ten dollar note or something.

My girlfriend currently lives on the other side of the world from me so when I see people (especially my friends) being intimate, it makes me feel extremely lonely which triggers my depression, usually leading to self-harm and all that, I'm not very good at coping with my emotions.

Well, actually, these are things that make it come to the surface directly, sometimes I just wake up in the morning from a bad night and don't have any energy and I just feel worthless. It comes and goes, but it's always there even if only in the background.

Making mistakes and not getting the results I expected. I easily forget to look at the bright side (what I have learnt through my efforts, what I can learn from those "mistakes") and start to overgeneralize and to turn those "mistakes" into part of my self-perceived identity (the 'I'm such a failure, I'm so clumsy' kind of thought).

By the way, I think this thread is awesome because it can help us become aware fo what oru triggers are and why they trigger us, so we can fight back when they come up. There's hope, everyone! We can fight back! We are fighting back! And we all deserve a round of applause for our efforts ♥.

When I don't get responses to texts or messages or calls and it seems like the only real attention I get is when someone makes advances at me or bullies me.

Failing in social situations. I have a tiny linguistic disorder and everytime someone can't understand me I feel really bad. A simple, polite "sorry?" makes me stutter and lose all ambition to keep the conversation going. It could have been a great talk, but most people can't handle linguistic mistakes or stuttering. So it gets awkward from then on and just makes me beat myself up for the rest of the day. The resulting loneliness only adds up to it.

Being around people the same age as me. I'm so effing miserable and everyone has so much more life in their eyes. Even if they're struggling to make friends like me they still seem a lot happier and satisfied with their life. I'm so not in the present moment and am constantly unbearably miserable. I hate my life so I just can't seem happy. I wear my heart on my sleeve so if things aren't going great and I'm bored and miserable you're going to see that on my face. I hate being this way but I can't help it at all.
