User Profile: ASilentObserver

Hi everyone, I hope you are all taking it easy this week.

Do you all know? Practicing acts of kindness help to heal one from anxiety or depression.

I was reading this article, it shares that as per a new study conducted by a team of researchers, it is figured out that one can recover by practicing acts of kindness.

So I want us to discuss two questions:

1. How are you practicing acts of kindness?

2. How can you practice kindness on 7Cups?

Let's keep each other encouraged and accountable to practice acts of kindness.

@ASilentObserver

Lately I've been practicing kindness by practicing mindful self care and compassion.

I'm terrible at it; I used to take time to take care of myself, but now it is a chore I rush through.

So learning to recognize a critical thought, allow it, investigate it and nurture myself without identifying with a feeling is good.

It's hard and I'm not sure if it's working haha. My life is such a FUBAR hot train wreck of a mess. Where does one begin?

The support and kind words I've received on here has been pretty good. Sometimes it's been a brutal lesson or abusive. Meh.

Every time that happens I bounce back and heal stronger than before so it is what it is. It's life.

I hear the kinder I am to myself the naturally more kind I am to others. This involves breaking old familial patterns.

And that's not easy. In fact it's really bleepin' hard. The hardest job I've had. And I've done treeplanting haha.

But every day I seem to learn something new or flush out an old trauma or something. Never a dull moment.

And if there is a dull that's something I need to learn from as well. To sit and wait. Patience. Time.

Maybe the kindest thing we can do for ourselves and others is doing nothing at all when we don't know what to do.

@Dallady I just have to say this comment sounds so much like me hahaha down to the tree planting line and all and indeed esp because of it! That is too good.

To the breaking familial patterns and all, I have such a similar experience. I actually had to cut off my toxic family and am learning how to exist in the world alone and with chosen loved ones rather than built in, it can be so wrenching. I just cry and cry about it but life goes on lol. Coming across others who are breaking family patterns or who have also had to cut off their family really helps.

I am also working on having more self compassion and doing daily meditations to that end/in general working on breathing. I have a few delibitating mental illnesses and I didn't know the symptoms for too long so now I try to be gentle since I went so long without accomodations in a cruel world lmfaooo. I also do three walks a day outside 4-5 times a week, yoga, dance, journal, and I have a slew of free mental health apps in addition to being on NAMPI as well as this site.

One of my MH apps has daily gratitude which I've been doing too where I just list 3 things I'm grateful for everyday - it's really quick and easy and it's scientifically proven to combat depression. Also my favorite hack for it now is I always used to not be able to do it because I thought I couldn't repeat things I was grateful for but now I realized even if I say the same exact thing three times a day every day it's valid and I don't need to judge myself so hard.

I really struggle with self compassion too and this comment made me laugh and get too excited haha ,( ◍ • ᴗ • ◍ ) ❤ ƪ ( ˘ ⌣ ˘ ) ʃ ʕ ´ • ᴥ • ` ʔ

@ASilentObserver This is a great post to share awareness abpout kindness obs :)

1. How are you practicing acts of kindness?

I try my best to be kind to others when i could be. Practicing kindness to other people has taught me a lot of things about it like when to share kindness or where we draw the lines to prevent compassion burnout. It's just as simple as being nice to others with our words could make days better whether it's for ourselves or other people.

2. How can you practice kindness on 7Cups?

I'm trying my best to support anyone whether in group support chatroom or in forum. Just trying to be understanding and supportive could go a long way for other people and i'm trying to spread it when i'm available here ^^

Thanks for the post obs :)

1. How are you practicing acts of kindness? I am doing acts of kindness by reaching out to people like friends, family, and former teachers that have become like friends and neighbors by checking in on them. I also hold the door open for people at grocery stores. I treat people how I want to be treated etc. Acts of kindness don't have to be some big thing it can as small as smiling at someone or complimenting the server or a stranger in line at the food store.

2. How can you practice kindness on 7Cups? Be there for people

1. How are you practicing acts of kindness?
It sounds kind of stupid or detached. But my act of kindness is limiting my interactions with others to the bare min.
Why?
Social skills are my downfall for people don't understand me and I don't understand people. SO I kindly leave them alone and provide minimal interaction,

2. How can you practice kindness on 7Cups?

I share my experiences hoping others will see me, and not want to experience my negatives by learning from me.

@silent observer;

1. How are you practicing acts of kindness? I let people know I care by checking in on them, taking time to listen and by offering my support.

2. How can you practice kindness on 7Cups? I regularly check in with people I chat with, show interest in their lives and be there for them when time allows.

@ASilentObserver Hi Obs! I think being kind to others and ourselves is pure foundation of what it means to be a human. I don't understand why people go out of their way to be anything but nice because it takes as much energy to be mean than it does to be nice. I like to practice kindness to myself by giving myself grace and knowing my boundaries. In the 7 Cups community, I really like to say hello to everyone I see in the group chats and welcome our new members! ❤️

@ASilentObserver

One way I do an act of kindness is that when I am out and see an elderly person trying to do something for instance I saw an eldelry couple both with medical problems putting groceries in the trunk of their car, my boyfriend and I decided to help them, telling them this is how we were raised.

I pracitce kindness on 7 cups by being there for new listeners. Letting them know I am here for them because as I was once a new listener is shows their not alone andhelp them with anything it may be

Hello, everyone!

Me and a friend have given a homeless man food and helped clear up the area where he is living in the bushes.

Some people were being judgemental of the littering outside his tent but them people forget that they have a roof under their heads and people will always judge what they can't understand!

@ASilentObserver

Amazing post, Obs! Thank you for sharing.

1. How are you practicing acts of kindness?

I practice kindness by trying to be helpful to those around me. I also like to give compliments and sometimes even smiling at someone can make their day! I try to be always respectful even though I might disagree with someone's opinion.

2. How can you practice kindness on 7Cups?

I think everyone can practice kindness on 7 cups by spreading positivity and helpful content such as resources. We can also practice kindness by being encouraging and non-judgmental.

It's easy for me to practice kindness on other people, I'm a always doing or giving things for/to them. Being kind to myself on the other hand is a bit more difficult and still feels foreign to me, but I'm working on it. We can practice kindness on Seven Cups by posting encouraging topics and watching out for subjects that might trigger others.
