Short check in week 😉

There's a few events Disability Support is involved with at the moment. There is Food Day and we have a Teal Pumpkin Project game going for Halloween, you can check out other Spooky Events too.

Masking

[A person wears a plain, full-face, white mask and holds their hand over their mouth]

Can be a fun thing as part of a costume, but sometimes those of us who are disabled do it to try to fit in, make others more comfortable or to avoid comments or a fuss made around us. We hide our disability or minimize our symptoms to others.

What situations do you find yourself masking in?

Do you think masking is helpful, harmful, or both?

What would you like support with this week?

@affyavo

what situations do you find yourself masking in? I find myself masking my emotions and the amount of pain I’m really experiencing when I’m not feeling well due to my disability just so others could view me as normal.

Do you think masking is helpful, harmful, or both? I believe it’s both masking helps me to become stronger and continue to push. However, it prevents me from showing my true emotions to everyone and sometimes this can cause me to have build up anger or get annoyed fast to the point I explode and feel like I’m alone.

what would you like support with this week? I would like support with learning how to manage my emotions better.

@AffyAvo im 21 years old I live in a care home. I try to mask everyday I don't leave the care home because I had my legs amputated and I'm missing some of my fingers and I have lots of scars. So I don't want people staring or saying mean things to Do it's safer to stay inside.
