Chronic Pain (Disabilty Forum Discussion)
Welcome to a discussion about chronic pain. I will post a new question every day and tag people who have been participating. This will go for five days. Feel free to jump in at any time.
What are your methods for coping with your pain? If you like, you can share your illness, your pain level on a scale of 1-10, and how long you have been living with this.
I will start. I use lifestyle changes to cope with pain. I stopped eating gluten and dairy and that helped a lot. Sometimes I use heat. Sometimes I use meds. Some physical therapy has helped also. I have been living with this for years, hard to count.

I am sorry you are dealing with all that. I can only imagine what that was like to start having these issues at 8-9. You have my respect. It is amazing how you are living with such pain and yet you are able to show up and bring so much vitality and enthusiasm to your efforts in volunteering at cups. We are so lucky to have you here. thanks for everything.

Okay so for Day Two, the question is:

How have you come to accept your illness/illnesses? How are you going to work toward accepting your illness/illnesses?
I have various precautions to deal with the various issues my injuries cause I sleepwalk so I sleep in a safety bed. Bright sunlight hurts my head so I have dark glasses and don't go out alot Especially during the day.
@BlindGrapefruit I have had trouble over ther years accepting ME/CFS and PTSD. I have been mostly homebound for the last 10 years.Somehow I am accepting this much better since coming here. Thanks to everyone. I am also accepting my PTSD better since I met a therapist a few years ago that was able to help me with the terrible flashbacks. I have a heart problem and trying to manage it the best that I can.
@adventurousBranch3786
Pawsome to hear you getting better at accepting, that something I'm working on as Well. Hang tough stay pawsome we'll all get through this together.
@Fireskye13 Thanks!
@BlindGrapefruit Yes, the ones that are diagnosed anyway. My bigger struggle is just how much I'm affected due to a combo. I think more time is needed, but it's hard to get to the acceptance point as the goalposts seem to keep changing.
@BlindGrapefruit
I do my best to live in the present and accept the highs and lows. It's a process though
I have a TBI traumatic brain injury, from a car accident when I was 6, I have OCD and ADD and DID.
I get migraines Sometimes, but I'm not usually in alot of pain day to day.
@BlindGrapefruit On a daily basis, pain isn't my main issue. I have some pain which is chronic but luckily it's fairly mild. I have some pain that gets quite bad due to chronic issues and I'm thankful that it's short lived. Coping - for the bad stuff a big part of it is dealing with the issue.
For the chronic stuff, stretching, resting, ice, heat, baths, pain meds, better positions, cuddles with my husband, massage can help.
I learned slowly to incorporate and embrace my pain...because no pain killer works on my weird body...
What else can you do faced with no options? You embrace and incorporate the pain, you already know it so it is with you now, it is part of your "normal" life...
@DeathRaceFrankenstein
Sometimes we learn to live with it. Do you do anything to distract yourself from it, like gaming or music? I really appreciate you being here. My pain is like yours in that I just live with it. I have gotten used to it but it takes a toll.
@DeathRaceFrankenstein
You're widom andhand clarity inspired me, the fact that you accept 'it' as part of you is just another new form of realisation. Well done just well done 👍
