there is dignity in rest

Something I struggle with being physically and mentally disabled is needing more rest than the “average” person.

these things take a toll on us. our symptoms trickle down to more symptoms such as fatigue, soreness, headaches and more.

I have had to reframe my negative self talk. “I am frustrated with the limits of my body” becomes “I am grateful my body allows me to enjoy fresh air and be in my community” “I hate how much sleep I need” becomes “I take care of my body and its needs, even if my needs look different from others”

Do you have any negative associations with rest? If so, how do you challenge those thoughts?

@Kait What helped me was reminding myself I wasn't doing nothing. So many biochemical processes happen when I'm resting that help me to heal some damage and have energy to do something later.

@AffyAvo Yes, exactly! I am sure that we only really can heal when we are in deep sleep and so this makes it doubly important to get good rest and sleep.

@Kait Thank you for this post, it is good to rephrase and remind ourselves sometimes to rest before we need to! Here is the Boom Bust post that takes things a step further .
