Hello Everyone,

Ive had bulimia for about 9 years and my husband is the only one who knows. Lately I've been wanting to try to see someone for help but I'm extremely embarrassed and get anxiety when I have to talk to people. When I read stories about other people with bulimia mine doesn't seem as bad but I know I need help though cause my teeth, digestive problems, and chest pains lately are worse than they've ever been and I get scared once in awhile. Mainly because my husband is deployed and I have 2 kids and no family around. Not really for myself. :/ I've been trying to pay attention to what my triggers are and avoiding food I know I can't keep down and do really good for about 2-5days. Actually no that's a lie I then restrict for 2-5 days trying to eat healthy then get out of control again for a few weeks before I can stop again. I know this really isn't about my weight either because although I don't want to get bigger I've pretty much weighed the same the whole time. I really want to stop. I'm so tired of it. I was just wondering if anyone has tips to stop on my own for now or want to talk?

@intelligentBranch6756 You are so strong for reaching out and I admire you for that. I really do. Bulimia is terrible, and it as had bad effects on your health. I am so happy tat you are considering getting help, and I seriously do support your decision. You are also incredibly self-aware, which is an amazing quality that very few people have.

You seem to be going through a lot of stress and pain right now, and that is perfectly okay. It really, truly is. You're so strong for simply having to go through an eating disorder. They're terrible. What do you think you can do to help yourself deal with those triggers? You said your husband is deported and I am so sorry that he isn't near you anymore. The loneliness with that, mixed with an eating disorder, must be horrible. But you do want to get better, right? That is amazing. If you ever go to a therapist, just know that they are paid to listen to you, it's their job not to judge. I feel hypocritical saying that but it's the truth. Also, therapists have seen it all. You aren't alone, I know it may be hard to believe but it's the truth.

Best of luck and stay safe <3

My name is Ems, I have OSFED eating disorder. I have been hard pressed to find OSFED help/support, so I'm hoping to find it here. I have already noticed, though, that there is no space for OSFED... only anorexia, bulimia, binge, and yo-yo dieting... and I am none of the above... and yet all of the above. That's what OSFED is...

So yeah, hi.

@TopazMorning1992 - Welcome! This is definitely the right place to post! Because a lot of people who haven't been formally diagnosed are more familiar with Anorexia, Bulimia, and BED, we have separate forums, but the Welcome to the ED Community and Eating Disorder Support forums are all-inclusive for any and all diagnoses (and non-diagnosed disorders).

Feel free to post anything you want to here and you can reach out for support both in these forums and from listeners. :)

@embbright - I can definitely understand not wanting to worry your parents, but at the end of the day, I am sure that they would much rather be worried and get you the help that you need than be unaware of what you're struggling with. It sounds like you really want to get help, and you deserve the support that you need! If you want to talk through it with someone before going to your parents, you can feel free to PM me anytime. Take care and be safe.

Hi, I'm Taylor. I am currently 18 years old, almost 19. I was diagnosed with atypical anorexia nervosa back when I was 16, but I've had body image issues since around the age of 14. Ive battled with bulimia. I'm currently still battling atypical anorexia nervosa.

Hello my name is Savannah and I'm 22. I have absolutely zero healthy coping skills. I started with self harm, then ednos, and now I've got a binge eating disorder. I can't seem to find ways to help myself cope with anything and its frustrating. My insurance won't approve me to see a therapist so I'm really glad I found this app. Anyways, that's it I guess!

@banana9393 - Hi Savannah, I'm really glad you've found 7 Cups, too. It's not the same as therapy, but it definitely is a really good outlet to find people who understand what you're going through and can support you through it. Another thing that might be worth exploring are support groups - often they cost little or nothing, but can be a really helpful resource in recovery. If you ever need to talk, feel free to reach out to me or any other listener - I hope you find what you're looking for here! Take care and be safe.

@banana9393

@Anomalia is completely right, and has helped me with a major binge eating breakthrough. You can totally do this. I recommend asking questions and seeking advice from the listeners, I'm not one, I'm still struggling with my ED but they have been there, and know. xoxoxox

Hi, I'm Ally, I'm 13. I don't really know if I have an eating disorder, but I'm always afraid to eat. My parents aren't very understanding, and my mother makes jabs at my weight. I'm now very paranoid about my weight, and don't eat much because I'm afraid to. I feel like I'm disappointing my parents when I eat.

@AllyCat01 - First of all, I'm sorry that your parents are making you feel that way - you don't deserve to have jabs made or feel like you can't eat normally around them. Have you talked to them about how they make you feel? Do you think they would be open to hearing that, or would they brush it off?

@Anomalia -I've written a note to my dad, however he has just brushed it off. This kinda just makes me more desperate to please them, so I do that by not eating much.

@AllyCat01 - I'm sorry it was brushed off by your dad, and I do understand the impulse to please them by eating less, but it's also important to look at what you need to do to be healthy, happy, and safe. Do you think starving your body will make anything better? What would you tell a friend if she reached out to you and said she was trying not to eat to make her parents happy?

@Malinconia - I'm really proud of you for coming here and opening up. I think you're absolutely right that a big part of recovery is being able to talk to someone who understands and can support you in a way that those around you who haven't been there can't always. And there are lots of us here. You are more than welcome to PM me or other listeners around here, or to keep posting in the forums and receive support here.

Regardless, you are strong and courageous for having reached out - that's not easy. And that same strength is going to help propel you forward into recovery. You can do this!

@Anomalia Thank you so much! Today was a good day, but I'm always afraid that the following day I can't be that strong again. But I want to be positive and your support is very helpfull!

@Malinconia - Today was a good day, and that's all you need to focus on right now. You can't change the past and right now you don't know what tomorrow will bring, but in this day, you had a good day.

When I was early in recovery, someone in my support group told me that she had a jar that she put a marble in every day that she went without using any eating disorder symptoms. I asked her if when she slipped she emptied it and started over. She said no. And that blew my mind. But what she told me is that no matter how many times she slipped, those days still happened and they were still days when she didn't hurt her body more and they still counted. At the time, that was hard for me to fully grasp, but I think it's 100% true. No matter what happens tomorrow (and hopefully it's another good day!), it doesn't change how well today went. That's a victory you can hang onto.

@Unpreparedandunaware - it's hard to be suffering alone, but even if you're not ready to open up to anyone in your life just yet, at least you can be open here and get some of the support you need. You can PM me or post here about the struggles and the victories as you fight your eating disorder and we can help.

You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think, and that's what will get you through this.

Hi I'm 38 and have been struggling with an eating disorder for the past 10-12 years. I was in recovery and maintained a healthy weight for the past five years. Within the past four to six months i started severely restricting calories and basically going completely against everything I learned. I immediately put myself back in treatment but again i am straddling the fence on recovery Vs. Continuing with the eating disorder. I'm scared to both recover and stay sick. My biggest issue Right now is in not believing that true recovery is possible, that it's only possible to gain weight while the eating disorder forever controls my brain. While i was in recovery i still struggled with the Ed thoughts never going away and everyone thinking I was fine because I had gained weight. If anything i felt worse because the thoughts never left and I didn't even get the satisfaction of being thin. Thanks for listening.
