@emsworld
Hi, I just joined. I've been struggling with EDNOS for the past six years, and although I've been in therapy, I often feel like I have no one around me who understands what I'm going through. I don't want to feel judged.
Recently, I've been going through a really rough patch and I'm looking for people who experience similar things to offer my support and get support from them, I guess... I just want someone to talk to who will get it and won't judge too harshly.
However, I am very hesitant about what to share because the last thing I would like to do is trigger anyone. Are there rules about how explicit you are allowed to be here? I really really don't want anyone to be triggered by stuff I say, but I need to share with someone or I'm going to explode.
All my support to everyone looking for help around here.
Rosie
@RosieHallow94 - Welcome! I really appreciate that you are being conscious of not wanting to trigger others. Our rules for posting in the forums in the eating disorder community are:
- Do not post specific weight or calorie numbers
- If you are overly graphic in describing behaviors, etc., please add a trigger warning
That's pretty much it! :) We welcome you sharing your story and seeking support here and if you would like 1-1 support as well, you're always welcome to reach out to me.
Yay! Welcome to all of our new subscribers this August! I am so glad to see the Eating Disorder community growing and to meet so many lovely people. We are all so happy that you have decided to join us!

hi! my names dan, im 13 and ive been struggling with an ed for 2 years now. i love listening to music and writing short stories. i can also quote vines religiously haha. tbh, im not that interesting but im glad i found 7 cups since im really lacking support right now. i dont want anyone to have to go through this alone.
@danhawthorne - Welcome! I'm really glad you found our community and hope that you find the support you're looking for here
Hello, I used to use 7 cups and honestly forgot about it for a while.. umm so I havent actually been diagnosed with an ED and I dont wanna seem like a fraud or anything. I used to weigh [edited] pounds and am currently [edited].. I struggled along the way and developed a fear of weight gain. I still am struggling to accept that I am at a healthy weight and can be ok to maintain. I still see my overweight self at times. I track calories constantly and freak when I go above [edited]... even though I should be getting at like [edited] especially due to my very active lifestyle. I still cant seem to escape daily weigh ins, and those weigh ins determine my mood for the day most of the time. I just want my old self back a lot of the time, but I also know that she wasnt healthy either , so I guess Im just looking for a healthy balance. Right now my main goal is being ok with eating the normal amount of calories again.
[edited by Anomalia to remove weight and calorie specifics, per community specific guideline]
@diligentSkies7308 - Welcome back to 7 Cups! I personally do not believe that being undiagnosed makes someone a fraud for saying they have an eating disorder, and from the way that this sounds like it has been impacting you, it certainly does sound like an eating disorder. I am glad that you're reaching out and think that it's a great goal to work towards being comfortable eating a healthy amount - but I also know that doesn't come easily.
Personally, I'm a believer in small steps that start to add up over time. If you have a certain amount that feels okay to eat right now, what is a way that you can add a small amount more and work to be comfortable with that, then adding the next step? This could be adding one more snack or caloric drink during the day, adding another item to a meal you already eat, trading something for a more calorie rich version, or increasing portion size of what you already eat a little bit - whatever way feels most comfortable for you while still taking that step forward.
At the same time, I think it's important to address not just the physical side of things (i.e., eating more), but also the emotional side of things that makes it feel like it's not okay to have more or makes you feel like you're overweight. When you have those thoughts, what are ways that you can cope with them? Can you challenge them? Can you distract from them? Can you fight them with a positive affirmation instead?
Hope to see you more around the ED community!
@Anomalia thank you for the response, I also am sorry about the posting against guidelines! I did not see the rules of posting, my fault.
@diligentSkies7308 - No problem! We all have to learn at the beginning. The ED community specific rules are just to avoid weight or calorie specifics as they can be triggering for others / cause people to feel internal competition that isn't healthy. But in general saying lost or gained weight, restricted or binged, etc. is completely fine
Hello my name's Athena and I have suffered with ED's ever since I was 12 years old. I've suffered with bulimia, anemia, and anorexia. I currenrly still suffer anorexia but it's not as bad as it used to be. I still find myself starving myself without even realising it until someone asks me if I've eaten. I'm trying to fully recover but it's proven to be hard by myself. I hope I can find friends here and hopefully help some people too.
@Snowfairy18 - Welcome, I'm glad you found this community! It is definitely hard to recover alone and I have found works better with support from others and often professional help, too. Reaching out here is a great first step.
What sort of support do you feel like you need on your recovery right now?
Hi, I'm new here .I don't really feel comfortable giving my name, I'm sorry. I've been struggling for the past five years with anorexia . I got better for a little while, but now that I've started college and don't have parents constantly looming over me, I've started to get bad again. I just kind of feel lost.
@LaVieBoheme6 - Hi there, and welcome! It's completely okay to not share your name here - I don't share mine, either, so people just call me various versions of my username instead. I can definitely relate to how easy it is for things to start to slip back in college when the people who have supported you with your recovery aren't around to help keep you on track, and I think reaching out here is a really good step. What do you think would help you to change directions back towards recovery, even if it's just a small step at a time? Are there people you could talk to about your ED at college? Or ways people could support you even without knowing, like scheduling meals with people so that you'll go?
@Anomalia my friend group and I always have meals together but I feel like that just overwhelms me. Even though I know they arenta, it feels like they're judging me for the amount of food I eat.
@LaVieBoheme6 - What would make you feel less like they are judging you, do you think? Are there times that it's easier or harder that you can see patterns in?
Hi, I can't share my name but you can call me Ohhh. I have been around 7 cups for 3 years but I haven't been sure I was ready to start posting in the forums. I have been struggling with an ED for about 5 years. I am not entirely sure how I got to where I am now. I just know that about 5 years ago I began to go through a really hard time with work and personal reasons that caused extreme depression, along the way I slowly just stopped eating as much during the day. At work I was most depressed and I found I didn't eat at all when there. During the summer months we would work 14 hour days and I might eat a very small amount of money one thing but that was it and after a few months the weight began to drop and from there I don't know how or why I started to more of where I am now and I won't go into details because I don't want to trigger others but now I feel like I can't stop. I can't handle if I gain weight. Or if I can't lose the weight I already gained.
Hi im jess i have had an ed for a year im 15 and life is ok right now. Im very excited for winter break!! I really like cats and drawing. I also have a thin for percings i want to get more on my ears i think they look cool.
@jessicaabby - Welcome! Really glad to have you in the community and I look forward to seeing you more around the forums <3
@emsworld This is my first day here. I'm kinda lost and stuff. I've had an eating disorder for about three years now. And it's getting bad. I just want to feel okay with myself and have a healthy relationship with food.
@Emily2389 - Welcome! I think today you made a pretty big step by coming here and reaching out. I (and many/most of the listeners you see in this category) have my own history with an eating disorder and I can relate to how hard it can be to learn to feel okay with yourself and to recover from an eating disorder, but I can also attest to the fact that it is possible (and very much worth all the work to get there!) What do you think is the best way for us to support you right now?
