I suppose I should say something about myself. Ummmm, I go by the names chance or liz. I use literally every pronoun and i'm genderfluid. I just turned 16 in august and i've been in recovery (and relapsing) for the last 5 years. It's nice to meet everyone!

@Tyedyedbutterfly65 Hey TDBheart I totally agree with you - Eating Disorders are such an important subject that many struggle in silence with, so I am glad to have a space to provide support for those struggling!laugh I can totally understand that - when we have medical circumstances, it can be difficult to find our way around our eating habits - and sometimes we have to eat in a certain way to help our medical sitautions, which can do more harm mentally than meets the eye! I hope that you are doing well today, and thank you for letting us get to know you more! I hope we get to see you more around our community!heart

Hello. *waves*

I have an eating disorder that Ive struggled with for the majority of my life. I know its gotten bad again because I've lost weight in the past 2 months and my hair is falling out because I'm lacking nutrients. Ive been trying to make myself eat more recently.

Anyways Im new here, to 7 cups and my eating disorder really. I was just diagnosed last year. Ive gotten no support.

I love to read (anything that catches my interest), music (mostly emo and alt rock), poetry (I write and read it), art and crafts and making others feel better. I dont really talk about my ED, no one really knows about it so this is quite difficult for me. I dont really know what to say.

Lovely to meet you. :) Take care.

Hello,

I'm not exactly sure what to write, so I'll just ramble for a bit. Sorry in advance for a lack of organisation in this post.

My name is Cassandra - and please do me a favour and do not call me Cass or any related nicknames... there's a bit of a story behind it. If you want to shorten my name, it's Sandra or Sam. I'm in my mid-twenties, doing job training right now and will have the biggest exam of my life soon - and I'm terrified of that day already...

I don't have any diagnosed eating disorder, but my eating behaviour definitely is not the way it should be. I'm counting way too much, tracking too much, and eating too little - at least, that's what the logical side of me says, but it's getting easier and easier not to listen to it, unfortunately. I'm rather busy - busy enough to forget eating without meaning to - and that's not helping things. It's a bit of a vicious circle for me... I'm trying so hard not to hurt myself visibly that it's those subtle things that become more pronounced...

As of right now, I'm struggling to at least have one meal a day. Just to keep going. I don't really know how to take much more of this... but it will work out, it always did, and I'm hoping to get back on the road to recovery in October again at the latest.

@CaHoVi - Welcome, Cassandra! I'm really glad you're here and that you're reaching out. Even if you don't have a diagnosed eating disorder, it sounds like eating behaviors are definitely starting to be a struggle and are causing issues for you, so it's definitely worth getting support! And I definitely hear you about it sort of starting small with counting too much and eating too little, but more and more starting to ignore the "logical side" of you and cycling deeper into it. I hope that this community can help you to hang onto that "logical side" or "healthy side" of the mind and help you break out of that cycle.

You said that right now you're struggling to have at least one meal a day - do you tend to find it tougher to find time to eat more than once a day or to eat a lot at a time? Sometimes I find that what can help in small steps forward is to figure out which side is tougher and lean on the other - for instance, if it's the amount, then having smaller amounts more frequently can be easier. If it's the time, then working on how to build it into your routines and setting reminders, etc., can be more helpful. If you want to talk more, you're always welcome to message me.

In the meantime, I hope that you do start taking those proactive steps back to the road to recovery and am sending you lots of good wishes fo that exam coming up!

@Proxalina - I'm glad that meeting with your team is coming up.

In the meantime, you said that you can't go back to not restricting - why not? What would happen if you let yourself eat?

@Proxalina - When you first begin to eat again it can definitely be tough with it hurting your stomach. Our bodies get used to not eating and it can feel like too much even when it;'s what our bodies need. I think there are a couple things that can help somewhat - one is taking it slowly - focusing on adding just a tiny bit more at a time so it builds towards the goal. Eating small amounts but more frequently can be a good way to not over-stress your stomach but still get more nourishment. Often people also will find that liquids are easier, so soups and smoothies and things can be a good place to start.

For the emotional side about gaining weight, I do know that it feels overwhelming to think about that idea, but I want to challenge it a little. What would happen if you did gain weight? What would change? Are things going well / are you happy now? If not, does that mean that perhaps weight isn't actually what determines your happiness and it might be worth trying something new?

Hello guys. Ive just joined because i was looking for something to help with anxiety- its been super bad in the past couple weeks, but was pleasantly surprised to see there was also a place for eating disorders too.

I had an eating disorder that started 2 years ago and considered myself recovered until this month. I keep finding myself trying to skip meals or eat less. i even started exercising to try to be more ‘fit. This week has been a huge struggle. Ive been so depressed and anxious this week. when i get that way its hard for me to eat, and having ED thoughts on top of it are really not helping.

i should probably talk about myself a little haha. im 20 years old and i have a job i really enjoy but am working constantly. when im not working i like pursuing photography and vlogging. i also love old music and old movies. im trying to get back into reading too. im a very boring person so i dont really know what else to say.

nice to meet you guys! hoping to make friends who will understand what im going through. 💗

@leadsister - Welcome! I'm glad you found this site and the ED community here! You mentioned that in the last month or so you have been slipping back towards your eating disorder - do you have a sense for what might be causing that? What do you think you can do to work on changing course back towards recovery?

@Anomalia hi! nice to meet you. to be honest im not totally sure. lately my anxiety and depression have been getting worse. they were good for a while but in the past couple weeks its been not so great. especially the last 3 days. and when i have issues with those two, i have a hard time eating because my anxiety makes me extremely nauseous and my depression makes me feel like im disgusting and worthless. im thinking those two together are the reason im slipping back. this morning, i had to skip breakfast because i couldnt get out of bed early enough. life has just been busy and crazy as well- i work over 40 hours a week. last week i got 45 hours. i think maybe i just need a break mentally.

@leadsister - It makes sense that you may need a bit of a break to help refocus a bit - is it possible to take one? Can you build in some of that break this weekend?

You also mentioned that the anxiety is making you feel naucious at times - it sounds like maybe starting with focusing on strategies to help calm that anxiety could be helpful. What types of things have you tried in the past? What are other things you could potentially try when that feeling comes up?

@Anomalia i wish i break was possible. i work at a great place but one that is really understaffed at the moment. my only day off was supposed to be tomorrow, now i have to work. i love my job but the most i get off a week is two days on opposite ends of the week. since im working tomorrow im working 10 days in a row now. i wont be off till next week wednesday.

so far i havent really done much to help my anxiety. i pretty much just shove the feelings down until i feel better because it usually happens at work (since i spend most of my time there) so i cant do anything about it. i never really have time to address it or step away and calm down either. im beginning to wonder if there are certain people who are causing the anxiety- i dont have any problems with anyone at work but there are people who irritate me more than others and there is a person who i get nervous to work with sometimes because its impossible to know how shes going to act from one day to the next.

im starting to think im getting overworked because every single week i get overtime and i work at least 8 hours a day for the most part. im hoping to get a break next month at some point- maybe get a weekend or two off or something like that. itd be really darn nice.

@leadsister - I'm sorry that you've had to put in so much time lately at work - that's understandably exhausting! When you get home for the night, is there anything you can do to help relax more and make sure you're taking care of yourself (food, water, sleep, etc.) well?

You said with the anxiety you're not sure if a particular person might be causing it - maybe a first step could be tracking when you feel that way and making little notes about time of day, what you were feeling, who you were around, etc. to see if you can find any patterns that might tell you more about what could be triggering it and from there if you can find strategies to help.
