Toxic..
i try my best with my family, i really do but i really will admit that it hurts that im realizing they may never really love me in the way that i I love them.
i was raised in an quiet dysfunctional family, no one taught us how to express any emotion so whenever there was conflict everyone would either silently judge you or wait until you left the room to talk about you. these we barely talk, but the silent judgements are still there and after a while i realized this is just what we do.
throughout my life all ive ever wanted was to love and be loved.. all throughout highschool i found myself with the wrong people and in the wrong relationships that lead me in situatuons that im currently still healing from and who I was or what I had to do to survive while I was growing up seems to be the only thing they see me as now.
i constantly feel left out, discarded, judged in talked about.. im not a bad person at all and ive given up trying to prove to them that i am.. but it still hurts, it's like a break up but with your family. and even tho i can't physically leave here im trying my best everyday to do so emotionally.
but it's so hard and it's so lonely, and i feel so trapped because all i ever was and currently am trying to do was be a better person, and be the person i always imagined myself to be when i was younger but they don't accept me.
yeah i made some mistakes along the way, but what they don't understand is that I basically grew up on my own. No one warned me of anything, no one guided me and so whatever I faced I faced it alone, I had to become independent early . never had a cousin, a sister or brother to call.. just me. so if i cried i cried alone, if i laughed i laughed alone.. i even got jobs to support myself and now i can't name anything that i haven't bought by myself. they see me as selfish, self/centered..
but what they don't understand is how hard it is to find a balance between learning and trying to love and save myself while still trying to love them despite all the pain they put me through.. i was never good at showing love, so my relationships always failed but for them ive always tried my best.
im tired
I felt this. It seems like you are very emotionally tired. Sick of trying to maintain a sense of love and community amongst family who doesn’t understand your personal situation or who maybe even denies having a hand in the things that have made you feel so alone. It’s understandable. It’s tiring. I know. I’m not a listener on here, or a therapist, just a fellow person that related to this, but if it gives you any comfort, when our own family fails us, we can choose friends instead. There are people out there that will connect with you and understand you, even if you haven’t found them yet. Some people you can’t change either, because they aren’t interested in changing. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but at some point, we have to stop hoping they see from our eyes and just let them see what they want and cultivate the life we need outside of what we are used to. I hope this helps 💜. We are all here for you.
@QK93
hey , thanks for taking the time out to not only read my long rant but also understanding and sending kind words.. i really appreciate it seriously & im sorry that you relate to my situation, but also kind of greatful to know that there is someone who understands what dealing with this feels like -- i dont have friends but im beginning to find a community within 7cups, hopefully ill make some at some point 💜 , thank you again for your response and i hope things get better with your family. if not, then just know you too can also find a community within 7cups
I completely understand this... my family isn’t supportive of me at all. I try and make decisions for myself and they make me feel guilty about it. I’m forced to watch my little brother while doing college classes.
@MiaQueen1126
I understand completely when you say you try and make decisions for your self, I feel you on that and youre not alone. I'm not sure of your entire situation, but I am sorry about the situation involving your brother -- if you ever want to talk maybe we can listen to eachother , thank you also for responding to my rant and taking the time out. youre strong for still choosing decisions for you regardless of your family..best of luck ❣️
Same to you! I’m trying my best not to let it get to me too much ya know
I'm brand new to this app so I don't know what I'm doing yet :) but I came across your post and just wanted to say I'm glad you are reaching out and I relate to the part about family being dysfunctional and talking about each other. My mother is worse than any gossipy muddle schooler I swear. She ends up causing issues between the rest of us, etc. In my opinion you are doing great by realizing the dysfunction and wanting better. Them labeling you as self centered sounds like them being intimidated by your independence and that you are able to work and take care of yourself.
@adaptableDog7061
hey, im a little knew as well so i understand lol. thanks for taking the time out to respond and send kind words, you might not know how much that was needed so I really appreciate it.
I'm sorry to hear about your mom, how are you dealing with that? Also, yeah I do want better I dont think anyone should have to be in an enviornment that doesn't completely serve who they are or what theyre trying to accomplish.
I had to learn to be independent because of them, so yeah maybe they dont understand it, thanks for helping me see it a little different
I so understand you. I’m going thru a similar situation with my mom and I feel almost the same way you do. For example today I tried to help take a load off my mom by cooking dinner and asked if the chicken was any good and in a snarky manner she said “no toss them out, I’ll cook in a minute.” While she was doing the dishes. In that moment I was enraged because once again I’m just tossed to the side to be useless and I felt unwanted unloved and I didn’t feel like her child wether I’m 20 yo or not. I walked back to the living room and just melted into my seat I was in while doing school all day since 9am and just started crying silently because why be a bother to her. When she realized I was crying she still kept asking in a snarky tone what’s wrong and I didn’t want to talk about it Bc I was already mentally drained from my school side I had some exams. But we ended up talking and it was the same shit I told her how I feel and she tells me why she’s being snarky and rude sounding and “explains” her feelings to make them seem more important or worse than my feelings. And when I told her that it’s been like this for years and that I didn’t feel like her child but like an orphan in a random home I think it finally turned the switch in her head that I’m actually hurting. What I’m saying is your not alone there’s more people like us each with our different story. Hope you’re doing well!

hey thanks for taking the time out to respond , sounds like your situation is really toxic and im sorry you have to deal with that.. while im happy you guys actually sat down and talked , it seems like she adds a lot of negativity in your life and if possible maybe you could keep some distance, i know you may have heard that before but its a real thing and even the people we love have the power to make us feel so much worse but only if we allow them too. it may not be an option for you to move out but keeping as much distance and not putting yourself in a position where she can make you feel bad about yourself really helps.
I had to teach myself to stop doing so much for my family because it hurt me when they didn't appreciate what i tried to do, even if it wasn't perfect. I had to put how I felt first because it was clear I was the only one who felt it.
all im saying is even though i don't know you or your situation i too can relate to being drained from exams and school ( im 19) , and with all of that being hard enough we deserve to not surround ourselves with anything that could cayse us even more strain and stress seriously. School is hard, but i want you to know that your feelings are no less than hers, and they never will be.
again thank you for taking the time out to tell me your story, it really helps whether you realize it or not. ❣️
Hey @lovingCup504 umm I can relate to your situation in some way... I know it's tiring, but I hope you'll not give up. And please, do love yourself. I know they say that you should love your family. But it doesn't mean that you should give all your love to them. If pleasing or proving yourself to them is what makes you feel so down so lost, so tired, then start to let go, I guess. We don't live to please people. There are people we can't change, but we can change the people around us. Sadly, we can't change our family. (Laugh sadly) It's hard. Then the only thing we can do is to change our mindset. Be positive, don't let the world's negativity swallow you. They say that when the worst thing happens, you only have yourself. Then don't depend your happiness on them. Yes, I know that we all crave the love of our family, but what can we do? Please them to be loved? Then lose yourself? I am not saying to unlove them though. Love them, but love yourself more than anything else. And don't hate them for what they did to you, for making you like that. One friend once told me that, don't hate the people who wronged you, hate what they did to you, not the person. It's hard to be a martyr, being selfless, we are no saint I admit. I think I'm getting farther from the problem haha. I also recommend to you to go out and sit beside nature. I always do that to comfort myself whenever I felt so lost again. It just feels that God is with me. (I don't know if you believe in Him though). But it's just one way for me to calm my storm inside. It's a little moment where I think of nothing, a moment where I can just let myself enjoy and think that there is no problem at all. We all need a rest. And if you ever feel so lonely, so alone, just cry. It's not bad to cry. Crying helps us survive. When our bomb is about to explode, crying is the best solution. It slowly takes away your pain for a moment until you are better once again. But don't cry thinking of giving up. It's hard to cry alone, but you are not alone. There's Him. :) (I don't know though if you believe in Him) There's also us, we may have not met but I know that if we met, you will not be alone. These are just words though, it's not powerful enough to heal you. But I'm hoping that the next time you share your story, you'll not be saying that you're tired. Rather, I'm hoping that you'll say, I am better. God bless you.
@TheLostCoward07
i don't know who you are or where you even are but I want to really thank you for this response , it means so much to me for you to write and understand me. I feel like you completely understood what I was saying so thank you. Yes I believe in God, I'm not so religious more so spiritual if that makes sense and I love nature (I'm an earth sign - if you know about zodiac signs) , I love your response , I'm actually about to screenshot it , thanks so much for sending so much positivity my way it was much needed. I hope whatever you are going through you also can take the same words you gave me and apply it to your own life, because like I said I don't know you but I know that you deserve love too. Thanks again, 💕
I'm glad I can be a little help to you. And yes, I will do apply it to myself so that I can prove that If I can, why can't you. If you ever want someone to talk to, feel free to talk to me. I can give you some of my positivity. 🤗
@TheLostCoward07
Wow yeah I actually would really love that, im not sure how to message people on here tho
@lovingCup504
great conversation thread and great to see people support one another!
Unfortunately we can't DM (direct message) one another as Members. You can DM a Listener, however, and interact with other Members in the Sharing Circle or Healthy Habits chat, but that's it as far as I know.
Yes, that is enough for us. As long as we can help and share our thoughts to console one another, it is enough.
