@berrycheesecake90 I know the desperation of wanting a parental figure. Someone older, wiser, who genuinely cares, offers insight, advice, and support. It’s the most natural need we have. We want someone to look up to. We want someone to rely on. I found that having an older therapist checks many of these boxes for me. My therapist is laid-back, less structured, and works from a more relational framework. I view him as a mentor of sorts. He provides that emotional support, insight, care, reliability, and compassion. I can talk to him about anything and everything, and I’ve been lucky enough to find a provider who I know cares about me as a person, not just as a patient.

Of course, that is limited to 1x/week. Sometimes 2x/week. Mine encourages me to reach out when I’m struggling and is very responsive and supportive between sessions, but that’s not very common amongst providers. So, sometimes we have to meet that need through other avenues as well. I’m no longer searching for that parental figure, but in the past, I’ve had that need met through mentors at work, family friends, and the parents of my best friends. I was once enrolled in a Partial Hospitalization Program, and most of the other patients were 20+ years older than me, and they took on a very protective/parental role. I’ve had professors who treated me like family. My dad’s oncology nurse still comes over often despite his passing, and she says that we ARE family. Somewhere along the line, you’ll find someone or something that helps fill the gap, even if it’s only in a small way. It’ll never be the same as a parent, but it’ll make you feel loved, supported, and cared for.

Im 53 so i would love to find a something similar but I haven't been able to . So ill settle for a big sister or something.. praying you find hat your looking for . I can be a mama :) ..

@berrycheesecake90

Yes, I have plenty of them ! You'll find them too !

In my case, I didn't have to find the first few. They were aunt/uncles/cousin. The ones not in my family, i kinda just chose them. I am a gifted child and a bit too mature, so I naturally have a lot of older friends.

⚫️👉 I'd say to find them online is easiest, especially in forums where a conversation topic is already provided. Look for the most wholesome comments/posts. These are usually genuinely kind people, and .ight be what you're looking for.

However, you might face a few one-sided interactions, as such people are usually very mature. But trust me, just let the relationship progress, things will be much much better ✨️✨️
