why is opening up difficult sometimes , do you ever pretend you are okay when you are not
Hi dearies 🥰
Have you ever found it hard to open up? What usually stops you? ☺️💔
Do you feel you want to say something or open up about somethings then you stop yourself from it ...like staying quiet or even pretend you're okay, or convince yourself that nobody wants to hear what you are going through.Like you want to talk, but then your mind starts telling you that nobody actually wants to listen or that you are being too much.
Sometimes we say "I'm fine" even when we're really not. Maybe because we don't know how to explain what we're feeling, or maybe we just don't feel comfortable talking about it.
I know that more people ,teens , adults or even children go through this than we realize if you ever felt that way know this , your feelings matter and you deserve to be heard like anyone else .
If you have been feeling like this, don't forget there are listeners here who genuinely want to listen and support you without judging.
Hey hey @HelenListens it’s so good to meet you here! 💛
You have touched such an important, relevant and super common experience for many many people I believe, and with so much warmth and assurance. It’s soo appreciated. 💛
Im so grateful for a platform like 7 cups which helps in bridging this gap across the globe and offers us a safe space to share how we really feel. 💛 And indeed, soo many kind and patient listeners eager to support and care.

Hello Helen, how are you today? As well as can be I hope?
There have been so many times, throughout my life to this point, when I have simply muttered "I'm fine" when I'm really not. I think it is very dependent on how we;
1) Were raised.
2) Relate to others.
3) Feel about ourselves.
and 4) View what society expects.
I think the situation is different for men and for women, in the details but in general if we were raised NOT to show when it "hurt" (either physically or emotionally) if we find that "relating" to others is difficult because of the trust factor or some other defensive mechanism, if we don't feel good about ourselves because of experiences we've had or we "think" that society expects us to be/act/conduct ourselves in a certain way all puts pressure on us. If the majority of our experiences are on the negative side we will not open up because that is inviting "hurt and betrayal". If, on the other hand we have led a charmed/charming and positive life we will be more likely to be comfortable expressing ourselves.
We very often subjugate our feelings to "conform" and "fit in". Naturally we want to be liked and be popular. We want to have relationships and we want to be loved but I have learned, from bitter experience, that keeping your inner self shut away you can be in danger of "self-sabotage" in many situations.
Namaste,
D.
