Can my mind mix memories to create dreams?
i heard the other day that human mind can't create an image of something that it has never seen... i found it unrelatable because since past almost 2yrs now i have ridiculously out of the world dreams.. i Dont want to believe i m any different from other humans.. so i just tend to believe all those dreams are most likely combination of a 100 or more memories in my conscious and subconscious mind.. id there's anyone who has went through thr same please share.
& anyone who is an expert in this may also share their opinion if that fact is correct and have i come to the right conclusion.. thnx ❤️

Dreams are fascinating in the sense that there are so many theories out there and the brain is such a complex thing to really start to understand. There is a theory that the brain synthesizes dreams on the things you've seen and some dream content seem to reflect that. But then you start having a dream where your dog talks to you or your free-falling off a plane when you never did, and the theory doesn't hold up as much. I think there is merit to every theory that is mentioned out there!
honestly it's really complex.
so as you mentioned my dog talking to me in my dream which obviously never happened for real.. but i do have memories of my dog sitting beside me and also memories of my friends talking to me.. i was curious if my mind mixed the two, the visual part of first memory and the auditory of the 2nd to create a dream for me whereby my dog talks to me. i think perhaps the theory could be tweaked a bit to make room for this variation whereby the brain is mixing the memories to create dreams.
Btw Thank you so much for taking out time to reply to my forum post. i m grateful ❤️
@Avidaan16
Of course! I think dreams are fascinating and yes I had a little laugh out of reading your theory on how dogs talking in dreams can come to fruition. It may be very well true!
I certainly believe there is a particular effect trauma has on dreams. For me, I do have recurring dreams (usually intense nightmares rooted in traumatic memories, rather than fantasy, but I could really go for talking dogs). I am curious about them and have tried to research a little. Sometimes the intensity/occurrence of real memories in my dreams makes me think they are connected to cycles of depression. If that makes any sense? I recognize the same places, it's a familiar theme that tends to replay out of my dreams. Being trapped, there's no escape. I suppose that's why it feels like my depression talking?
Well most likely yes, maybe your truama of the past is making you observe the same(or similar)nightmares. i feel concerned about your situation and i would love it,if you contact your doctor about this and enquire if there's a way to ensure you can sleep without dreams. While for your depression talking being a problem, perhaps you can meet a Therapist. They'll surely help.
I am no expert in this situation.
i am too someone who is trying to gain knowledge on this subject,as in the past two years my dreams are more like a 7-8 season long web series with 40 episodes each with no repititive content
the only repetition is of a character{i feel i m being disrespectful by calling it a character while it has helped me through the worst of phases but i think it's the best way to put it for others to understand}, and a person {who happens to be the connecting link between the dreams and real life})
--'the worst part is it's all so connected and well coordinated in a perfect chronological order, that i have come close to comparing it to a past life? i know it sounds ridiculous but anyway i think it's just my mind playing games with me.. haha'
I think we are both sailing in the same ocean but on different Ships.. Hopefully we'll both reach the coast soon🤜🤛❤️
Honestly dreams are formed from your brain running through information while you sleep, and sometimes it becomes more one the abstract side if your brain is really feeling funky. But yes, all dreams are formed from ideas or memories already experienced. Having many abstract dreams can also say something about your creativity. Creative people tend to have more nonsensical ideas and therefore funky dreams.
Alright thanks for your insight.. yes i would honestly acknowledge myself as a creative person which i why i believed my brain is mixing all the science fiction, real life interactions, personal desires, etc. to show me an alternative life which i m not living when not asleep..
it does make sense to have dreams that appear like an alternate reality(which you refer to as abstract).
I just hope to get rid of this thing as they make me feel like i m alone out here, despite being surrounded by so many people except one person obviously but that person happens to be someone i have crushed since i first saw..so i won't be surprised if it turns out it's just my mind playing games with me..
even though i really enjoy those dreams (they are well written like a interesting script and chronologically arranged i.e. continuing the dream where i left as soon as i sleep), i want a break from them.. hopefully i will🤞

Hi Avidaan! 😊❤️ Thank you for your amazing and thought provoking forum post! This is a really interesting topic!
While I certainly am no dream specialist, I have read some interesting things in regard to dreams in the past. Some of the things that most resonated with me were that sometimes the things we dream about can simply be our brain "firing off" random stuff. An image of this, an image of that, and so it's kind of interesting when one image or thought is "fired off" randomly and then another random one followed in quick succession. Those dreams for me, clearly make no sense as in why one thought or image would be followed by another.
I have also read that the mind is constantly seeking resolution, trying to make sense of things and that's why sometimes our mind can try to "fill in the gaps". The mind seeks order. I wonder if this is why, when we wake up, we feel uncomfortable, kind of "scratching our heads" and trying to make sense of it all?
I have read that other times, with other types of dreams, the mind can work in an entirely different way through them. That some dreams can represent unresolved conflict. Things we couldn't make sense of, things or thoughts that still haven't been settled through our waking hours. Maybe these would be even a bit more realistic and more pertinent to our daily lives, past struggles and experiences. Or even not quite so realistic but stand as a representation of those things that our mind is still seeking resolution of. But the brain is always working for resolution.
Sometimes there can be things that we simply can't face during our waking hours. Things that could be too upsetting, detrimental to the ego and is the brains way of protecting us but...........it will crop up, some way or another. Sometimes, we can find these things in the moments of dream. And sometimes these issues can creep in, in other ways through daily life.
Thank you again for your thought provoking forum post! I enjoyed spending time here with you and being a part of it!
*high fives* 😊 and *hugs* ❤️
Thanks for your response, i appreciate you taking out time to write it all.❤️
@Avidaan16 I would say that our mind can be pretty creative. It can create figures that we've never seen either it be mix or totally new ones. Maybe our mind utilizes old images to create those figures or it could be from its own imagination as well. Tho I don't think I would agree that our mind can't produce new figures.
My first thought was the same(for a long long time) but lately i saw a short film which said our mind can't create things on it's own, i tried to verify from the internet and arrived at the conclusion that's it's true.. but couldn't explain my own dreams that are similar to any web series.. so i looked up for opinions here.. because to think about them, during the awake hours and have no explanation of them was really stressful.. won't say i have come to agree completely with any of the responses but my heart seems lighter than before.
@Avidaan16 Human mind is complex, can't really say anything about it. We can only try to make assumptions and do research about it but also be open to new ideas.
