Of course you do!
You see... that question is something that's very difficult to answer, especially from an external point of view.
The thing is, feeling useful, relevant, able to say yes to your question, doesn't always come along with grand things. More often than not, is about whether or not you feel this or not.
For example, in families there are partners that often... although there's people that love them around, they still don't feel relevant and... they end up thinking that they don't matter only because of lack of communication. Other times, maybe due to work, a disorganised life or similar, young ones that have the freedom to do whatever they want, feel that they don't matter only because there's no one to tell them otherwise, despite maybe being in their 20s, living with their families, financially fine and loved. On the opposite side, there's people that live completely alone, single, are independent and yet for them this isn't a drawback. For them, that's what life is, and whether or not they matter isn't a question of "for who?", because for them, they matter for THEMSELVES.
So to answer your question bluntly. You matter as much as you feel like. Because at the end of the day, realistically and objectively speaking, nothing matters. Life ends, people forget. So nothing is about grand gestures. You don't have to work 14h a day and feed 5 children to "matter". You can be yourself, have a fine job, a cat, feed it daily, maybe study a new language or investing in yourself and your own growth sometimes, enjoy a walk and some music sometimes, doing everything with a smile on your face and... personally, i think at that point, you do matter.
You may ask "How can somebody that nobody depends on matter?" well... it's a grounded question. But to put it simply, it's not about that. Life isn't about living for humans, is about growing. Look around, life is everywhere. We're actually too many on earth from certain positions of view. It's always a good thing to nurture life, but from my own and personal pointbof view, those who matter the most are those that invest themselves in growth and happiness. Why? because at the moment, on earth there are just so many people, and because of the internet, economy, politics and other reasons, there's more and more sad people. It's not their fault, it wasn't their choice to be sad. But maybe, you can chose to be happy. Maybe you can chose to be different. To be better. How are you "better"? Not by exceeding at something or being perfect, but through confidence, inner peace and being able to say "yes" when asking if you matter.
People are mostly influenced from what they have around. If you change to be happy, confident, focused on personal growth, there's gonna be people that will admire you, even if you won't acknowledge it directly. This will spread your own intentions and over time. And in my opinion, at this point, if you end up being somebody that inspire others, it doesn't matter if you're single or nobody depends on you. YOU MATTER. And you matter even if you try. Why? Because many don't.
You matter to me. When I was feeling like I was in an anxiety whirlpool that I wasn't going to get out of, your kind words, advice and prayers truly mattered to me and I can't thank you enough. Please be as caring to yourself as you are to others.
