How do you deal with anxiety when it comes to Doctors or Dentist?

I had a surgery almost 2 years ago.

Anxiety was so bad that I never went to my follow up.

@courageouspanda2006

Many people have this fear of doctors and dentists.

Maybe various reasons but I feel most stress the worst case scenario or a bad experience at one time.  I find doctors and dentist any health care person.... are PEOPLE period.

We do not fear other people we might do business with if for example we have a bad experience with a one that all in that line of work will be a bad experience.   The beauty is if you go to one and they are not someone you can deal with find another.... they are service providers and as the consumer you have the power.

Hi. It’s important to go to follow up appointments. Can you promise to do something nice for yourself once you’ve had the appointment perhaps? That way, you’d have something to look forward to and think about.

@RainbowRosie

I'm not sure there is a reward that would be enough to encourage me enough to go.

They normally give me a medication to "help" but it does very little, if anything. Not sure of the medication. It was a very low dose. Years ago, I had to see an oral surgeon. They had to put me under to remove a wisdom tooth. I was full blown panic attack. They said if they put me under in that state, I wouldn't wake up.

@courageouspanda2006. I try not to go to doctors unless it's necessity, but I'm thinking about the sedation dentistry so I don't have to really be present while a stranger digs around in my mouth

If you cant managed to be brave for yourself right now. Try to be brave for someone else. I have trypanophobia (fear of needles) but i managed to donate blood. My dad had a fear of needles too. I tried to be brave like him when he was alive. I also wanted to inspire my nieces to donate when they're old enough. So find something to hold onto and push through. You got this!

@courageouspanda2006 This is a good question and a topic I have seen discussed in group chats more times than I could count. Thank you for this.

I had something similar! When my mental health was at its worst I went 3 years without going to a dentist because I was terrified they'd judge how bad I'd let my teeth get.
Did they? Absolutely not. Because they are humans and they understand that we won't be perfect all the time and things happened. They reassured me that these things were actually extremely common, told me they're glad I came to see them and that I'm feeling better, and cleaned my teeth.
My most recent dentist appointment? Got told I have really nice teeth now.

They aren't scary, they're people, and it's their job to help you!!

@courageouspanda2006 Terrified! I always get so anxious, even if their intention is good.
