Help me
I'm resuming my studies after a 2 year gap. I mostly have a 5 year gap in my education. I'm 23 and still haven't completed A-levels (Grade 12 exams of school). My body keeps going into survival mode and often it freezes. I fear I cannot do wellin exams. My initial plan was to opt for a foundation course abroad that will get me to university but unfortunately that didn't happen for reasons and now I am having to do the thing I feared. I want to do A-levels but the fear pf failure is crippling me. Strange things in strange ways trigger me. When I look at words like "theme, analysis" I get reminded me of my English exam. When I look at words like "niche, stock market changes" I get reminded of my business exam. And I freeze, get filled with grief and fear. What is this thing? Can any professional help me? Is there a term for this? WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH ME
@querencia798 I've faced fear of exams when I was in school.
It was crippling to the point i took time off because I just couldn't do it.
But - i got out of it by taking the pressure off myself.
Imagine your fear comes true? You dont pass the exam. Then what? There will be no crisis. You'll redo. That's all. There is no thing as failure - only lessons in learning.
Also if you could study with others or some tutor it might give you a comfort seeing others feeling relaxed about the material. Calm can be plucked from others when you cant build it on your own. Connection counts !
I am unable to takr the pressure off. The thing is I don't wanna retake and pass in 1 go. Because I'm already 23 with enough study gaps and by the time I complete A-levels, I'll be 25. Retakes are unaffordable. I feel like crying.
@querencia798 I'm sorry you're going through this 🙁 I hope everything goes well for you 🍀 don't be too hard on yourself ❤️ you're doing your best and still trying and that effort alone is Amazing 🤍 Sending lots of love to you!🐾💝
Am not a professional, but I think I can relate, first I think it's the fear of failure that's crippling in on you, which is from past experiences. I think your main aim you've set for yourself is to finish before 25 and the fact that you feel this is not where your meant to be at this age, then you know you have to study to get out of this mess, but then the book itself keeps reminding you of the failures that already happened that might repeat itself, then the anxiety of if it happens the aim of finishing at 25 will be destroyed and if you retake it will only add longer year's, and then you remind yourself you have to study and the cycle just keeps going on and on and your mind just freeze or numb out to keep you safe and sane and adjust to the situation.
Well I won't say your overthinking it's okay to consider all the odds if one little thing or things go wrong and the chain reaction it can have, but look, a little reminder I believe with all your going through you made it through elementary school when you where little, probably wondering where all this anxiety came from, but you also made it through other grades and I believe you can make it through this one too. I'll recommend finding a study partner who you can learn from and who can learn from you, which won't make studies so boring and you can encourage each other.
