How to be less reactive to emotionally immature people

- Talk less - don’t over explain yourself and let them twist your words to victimise themselves
- Consciously slow down - It helps regulate your emotions and the keep the interaction spiralling outta control
- Stop taking things personally - When someone gives immature answers or deflecting blame, this isn’t about you. Emotionally immature people are protecting their ego.
- Practice - It doesn’t come naturally but we have to train our brain to stay calm and respond with control.
These are all so true and helpful
I think practice is the most important one, and knowing that it will take Time and practice to not take things personally, to really realize you can’t speak rationally to someone who is irrational (that’s at least why I tend to over-plain) and slowing down and speaking less really both do help. Slowing down helps me remember why they are upsetting me and that it is not personal. And speaking less gives them less opportunities to attack or gaslight or twist my words
And if possible, cut contact with people like this as much as you can. Sometimes you can’t, like with a coworker but if you can cut contact or at least decrease the amount of interactions it really is helpful!
Good luck to everyone! I send you lots of patience and strength!
