I don't want to lose :(
I'm running for student council, and I'm terrified.
I'm afraid of losing.
I'm afraid that if I lose, people will laugh at me or see me as a failure.
It feels like if I don’t win, something inside me will collapse — like a part of who I am will disappear.
I don’t like the people I’m competing against, they are not good.
I think about how much I’ve imagined myself succeeding, being respected, being seen.
And the idea of that future not happening makes me feel empty, almost like I don’t know who I am without it.
There’s pressure all the time — in my chest, in my mind.
Even small things make me overthink.
I feel like everyone is ahead, like I’m not doing enough, like I’m falling behind.
Sometimes I just want to quit, but at the same time, I can't.
Because if I do, it feels like I'm giving up on myself.
But staying also hurts.
It’s exhausting.
And the worst part is... I keep repeating the same patterns in my head.
Doubt. Fear. Harsh thoughts about myself.
Even though I try to move forward, they pull me back.
I feel like I’m stuck between who I am and who I’m supposed to be.
And I don’t know how to carry that anymore.
@Theother172 hello there! I just wanted to say , I also once stood up in my school council elections , so I can understand the pressure you would be feeling right now, we had to give speech everyday in the morning in front of the whole school and once I blurted out something very inappropriate, I came home cried a lot , was scared to go to the school and face people but had to do so cause , I couldn't tell my parents what actually had happened after a few days things just got better and no one actually talked about it also after few months I had left the school, and when I came back a year later, everyone had completely forgotten about what they remembered about me was my excellent result in 10 th board , what I wanna tell u is , we sometimes think that the world revolves around us and we keep taking the pressure and holding onto small - small embarrassing moments instead of just brushing them off as stupid and funny old times , I think I learnt to give up on people's opinion and learnt that people will just forget about what happened in a while they will find a new thing to think about so their is no point in blaming yourself and yeah! Failures are just a way to learn. I hope it helps and good luck with the elections! 🍀🍀🍀
@Theother172 I
@Theother172 hey, i want to share my own experiences on this one...
i tried out for an assistant post in the student council in 11th grade and lost lol. i thought it would be embarrassing and humiliating to walk back to school, genuinely felt like crying (I didn't even know I was that passionate about it until then lol). things didn't go any better that year, but you know what happened?
i won the actual post the year after, in my 12th grade. the people who were against me were just so popular, so it was much difficult this time. i had no hopes, I kept no expectations. i also kept my campaign simple, I didn't post anything on social media like others, I focused more on approaching and talking to people. in case you still have time to campaign, you should try to focus on making actual connections. i had a super casual talk with my juniors while everyone else had a practiced speech prepared, I guess that was a pretty good way to standout.
even if you don't win, that is in the worst case of course, for someone who is this passionate I think you have more chances than you think, but if you do lose - I'm sure you can also show your talents elsewhere. if they didn't vote for you, wouldn't it mean they don't deserve your efforts?
p.s if the procedure I mentioned is confusing, I meant to say that 11th graders can try out for assistant posts like assistant school pupil leader, and 12th graders are eligible for school pupil leader. we have 6 posts (actually 3 posts, but each had one girl and one boy) and 6 assistant posts (same thing here), also worthy mention, after I lost the first time and they had the other girl, many strangers came up to me to say I could've done it better cause they saw me handling a huge club. so yeah, your efforts will never go down the drain!!
I think the good thing about my campaign is that there are things that, even if we lose, will still be useful for the school. We made trash bins and even a wooden bench to sit on.
Thank you 💜
@Theother172 wait omg that sounds so awesome!! i hope you get it, truly. you have such nice intentions as well...
Don’t focus on the negative things, if u don’t make it, it’s not the end of the world! I have faith in u good luck💕
@Theother172 I love your post! It is great you are trying and taking advantage of this opportunity at your school! I don't remember the exact quote, but I saw a gold medal runner on the olympics that said her parents always told her never to pass up an opportunity, and that looks like what you are doing. It is not easy, and it is out of your comfort zone, but it sounds like you are driven to do this due to your values and to help your school. When you see sports players who are winning you don't see all of the times they lost before becoming so successful. I'm not able to predict whether you'll win or lose, but it is about what you gain along the way. I hope you take full advantage of the opportunity and grow along the way. Even if you don't win you will be stronger and I expect will keep striving to win at life!
Correction: I misremembered the advice on opportunities. The more I think about it, I believe it was rather never take an opportunity for granted. I apologize, I responded too quickly and I think there is an important distinction there. As with anything, take my advice with a grain of salt. If you ultimately choose to run, and that is your decision, good luck. I'll be here cheering you on!
@Theother172 Sending lots of love to you!❤️❤️ I can relate with you in this 🤍 but one thing is that ur trying and not giving up and thats a huge win at it's own 🤍 I wish whatever it's ur going through starts to feel light soon🍀 don't be too hard on yourself ❤️
You're Awesome <3
