If you read on the news the unemployment rate of recent computer science graduates has skyrocketed.
Hence why I am having such a tough time landing an entry level IT job.
Outsourcing and AI is also playing a major part. Also there is a recession in Canada which is definitely not helping.
I may choose a career that is more focused on the business side of things rather than IT like business analytics. However I have to do a ton more research before spending time crafting resumes, learning new skills, potentially volunteering, etc.
Im a former Canadian. Lived in Toronto for 8 years.
Had a tough time with jobs as well. Things didn't work out. So I moved back to my home country. I'm South Asian.
I feel you.
I'm happy you are aware of the larger picture of economy and modern developments impacting employment. It's good you're looking into business; opportunities outside of your field of study can work out. My university counselor always told me "Skills are transferable". I agree with it. We may study one thing but we may work in another area because we pluck the same methods of navigation we employed there.

Yeah living in Canada long term is definitely not for the faint of heart. You have to reinvent yourself a lot throughout your career if you want to continue living in Canada which is not always possible depending on what career path you chosen.
Talking to family made me realize that.

Michael—- you’re capable and smart and I know it’s frustrating right now with the job situation but I believe in you. I know you will find just the right job for you! Hang in there bud. Don’t give up. Just keep doing the things. You have a good brain and are going to figure out something that works for you and gives you the income and which allows you to shine on.

Thank you Pat! Yeah I think I got a good head in my shoulders, especially now that I have given my head a good shake since 2 years ago.
I wouldn't be in this situation if I had a better idea how brutal the job market is. I could have easily prepared and pivoted.
However hindsight is 20 20! I was young so I got to give myself so slack there.
Plant—- Job hunts are challenging for sure. But you’re still paying forward. Keep up the good work sweetie. Don’t let it get you down —- chin up—-you got this my friend ❤️
Yeah it is all about staying optimistic and being productive with the time I do have to get myself out of this messy situation.
