My Anarchist “Friend”

TW - Self-harm, someone in crisis

I have this friend, a guy who’s a Satanist, and he’s VERY angry with the world. I don’t remember all the details, but he’s been hurt and abused, gotten into fights, been to jail, etc. He’s very proud of his anger and his rebellion and his anarchy. He revealed to me that he has voices in his head. He cuts himself, laughs about it. He insults me and makes fun of me. One night I was terrified because I thought he’d taken his own life.

I don’t want to leave him feeling more alone than he already does, but I’ve been thinking about blocking him. All he does is bring me down, scare me, hurt me, insult me. Idk… Maybe I care too much. Maybe I’m not upholding my boundaries like I should.

What do you guys think?

I hope no one thinks I’m hating on him because of him being a Satanist. That wasn’t remotely what I intended…

If I insulted or offended anyone, please forgive me. I wasn’t trying to say Satanists are mean or anything. I’ve met many kind people of many beliefs.

I love all people, regardless of beliefs or non-beliefs. I hope that no one believes otherwise. <3

@jesusredeemedme2425 okay so listen up. Your wellbeing matters. You are trying to help this person, but he does not want to be helped. From what you are describing, he appears to have schizophrenia. That´s waaaaay above your paygrade. He needs a licenced medical and professional care that he seeks out of his own will. I understand not wanting to abandon him and give up on him, but the truth is, by staying, you are betraying yourself and putting yourself out to danger. You don´t know what he is capable of doing, and you don´t want to be anywhere around when he has a violent outburst. I know that deciding to cut someone off is hard. But sometimes, you need to be a villain in someone´s story to stay the hero in someone elses.

For your safety and self care, I think you should cut ties with him. A friend isn't supposed to hurt you, even less, intentionally.❣️ and it seems like he doesn't have any plans to change, if he's proud of his rebellion. It's not that you care too much, you've already done enough by trying to be his friend and it didn't work that well for you 💛

Hi, I'd like to first commend you for being a good friend. Some posts had good suggestions but I am a lot older and perspectives change(older doesn't mean we have all the answers). I listened to what you shared and I heard your concerns. You are hurt by the insults and your safety is a concern and rightfully so. You shared he is in alot of pain and the saying," hurt people, hurt people" is so true.  You've done what we are asked to do as Christians love, treat someone the way you want to be treated and turn the other cheek  but we are not called to be marters. Jesus died so we could live life abundantly. What about this relationship is enriching your life? If you need someone to say it, I will...at this point you have every right to cut him off because no one or anything is more important than you and your emotional well being. Remember the airplane scenario: You need to put on your own oxygen mask first before you help another with theirs. You cannot put on your their oxygen mask first because you could loose consciousness. You can't be around someone *** the life out of you and think you are going to be of any use to him or yourself. Instead of you shining a light onto his darkness, he's putting out your light. This is what Satanist do and it's no reflection upon you or your strength in your faith. The truth is he has to want to leave that life but the anger is what fuels him and it's really sad to see because if he knew what we know he would come to the light and be healed from his pain and past abusers. The best thing you can do for yourself and him is have a phone conversation, explaining that you want what's best for yourself and him. I will be here for you if you need support if you ever decide to be open to being  better to yourself and to me. I am sorry for all that you've been through but there is a better way to deal with it and when your ready reach out to me and we can try to find that support for you. You can change this to your own words but make sure it's watered down, not a bunch of promises or leading him to Jesus. Some people are angry because they think God should not let bad things happen to good people, children, etc. God is not the author of evil but this world is filled with it and in life evil may touch you but here's the thing you need to understand it is with the power of the Holy Spirit that you are healed from whatever has afflicted you. And this is what is promised to you in scriptures Isaiah 53:5 By his stripes we are healed. So, continue to help your friend by praying for him and yourself and by letting him know you will only be able to be there for him when you both want the same thing for both of you to be safe, happy and whole(means loved&healed). I hope this helps you, I'll keep you both in my prayers.

P.S. There is an organization that may help him. It's called B.O.N.D stands for Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny. You can check it out at https://rebuildingtheman.com. Jesse Peterson helps people with life and has experience with people who were Satanists. Take Care of yourself.... I wish you peace, blessings & love

@jesusredeemedme2425 Sometimes its only someone else who can help them, like perhaps they need a firmer hand or direction from someone more inline with their beliefs, maybe all you can do is recommend them to this site or to reading the bible, and hope it works out. Its like that thing you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

@jesusredeemedme2425

I think that he isn’t your responsibility.

I am not on the religious side, because I’ve met all kinds of people. But I think his pain doesn’t justify his behavior. Maybe it does for some, but that has a limit too.

Even though I don’t think you need to give any kind of an explanation, I know I would (am I two faced? Probably. But I’ve been in your shoes and I get how difficult it can be). Tell him how you feel, how his behavior makes you feel and that it isn’t easy for you to keep up with it. I think his response will be the cue to proceed with the blocking.

It’s okay.

It isn’t your fault.

He isn’t going to be alone.

You don’t deserve to carry this pain of his.

@jesusredeemedme2425

I am new here, but I believe you are in a very difficult situation. n one hand, you have created a relationship/friendship, of sorts, with this person. It is clear that you care about them. But you also need to care for yourself. It is always fair to share your thoughts with the other person; to let them know that you want what is best for them. But ultimately THEY need to be willing to hit the point that they realize their darkness is not safe. It is not a buffer, but is being used to protect themselves from getting hurt. At some point, they quit trusting everyone... but most importantly, they quit trusting themselves. Without professional help and their own desire to make changes, there is nothing you can do. You can voice your concern, your hurt in making a declaration that you care and are willing to support them, but at this point, not until they are willing to care about themselves. You are allowed to create health boundaries and I encourage you to do so. It's not an easy choice, but I feel that you will make a good one. All the best to you as you navigate friendship, care, and safety.

@jesusredeemedme2425

You are seeing light in darkness. It shows you can appreciate the full range of the human experience. I hope you can draw confidence from that. It's a clear sign that you have a pure heart.

His rebellion and anarchy are an exercise in free will. It is in defiance of God, for when God seems like the only option, it makes free will seem impossible. Many people struggle to feel truly free when there seems to be only one path, the path of light and reason.

I know you see their potential. You want them to live freely, but to do so in consideration for the self. They are hurting themselves, and that is hurting you.

You are free to help them if you wish, but you cannot force understanding. This is where you must look within with utmost honesty and determine what you want and need.

You don't have to feel bad for saying no sometimes. Saying no can be an act of self-love in the interest of a greater purpose. You want to help people, I see that clearly. You're in a prime position to do exactly that. But to do so, you must nourish yourself and think in the long-term.

The ideas your friend has are based in reason and not easily defeated. It is not your duty to martyr yourself.
