Relapse of a spouse

Hi everyone.

Im too emotionally drained to even type. However, if anyone of you are struggling with the addiction of a spouse im sending you loads of strength.

I urge you to put yourself and your well being first because as much as we love them, we cannot be of any help when we are depleted. We cannot make them change unless they want to.

Im speaking of first hand experience,  i thought i was strong enough to help him through it. I thought i didn't need help. Truth be told, im half losing my mind because i cannot cope.

Got the reality check of another 50k gambling debt after we just settled the 150k debt.

And as much as those with addictions need support, those who support them also need support.

Whatever you decide to do for your own well being,  is the best thing you can do👌

@zaaab

The fact youve been through so much yourself yet still want to be there for others, is admirable!

You make a very important distinction here, the people and family and loved ones of addicts also need support and are sadly mostly overlooked 💜💕

@Amanda84

Thank you

Im now at a burnt out stage and unable to offer any kind of support. Hence iv chosen to step back and focus on myself. As selfish as it may sound, let it be known that iv given everything i could but i was unable to help one that would not help himself

Just want to remind others to care for themselves first before reaching a point where theres nothing left to give. Like where i am

Yes its true. Often the ones who support face more issues. Take care of yourself. There are duties of spouse, but there are also duties of the self and of the soul. We must prioritize our own well being.. coz only that is in our control.

@SoulwithGoals

Thank you.

I do hope im able to follow through with caring for myself without the guilt that comes with it. The world will unfortunately only ser you walk out, not see the years you stood firm

True. And about the guilt.. idk .. its possible it may never leave. Coz, I had to do a similar thing with one of my friend, due to which we don't even talk much anymore.. And the guilt is something that comes and goes by from time to time. Idk, if what I had done was wrong.. but it is what it is.

Camt keep sacrificing ourselves when they make no effort. Its like pouring your heart and soul into a broken cup. Everything will seep through

@zaaab You are so brave to have gone through all of this helping someone else

It is not selfish at all to focus on yourself and heal because you have to be well in the first place.

You can see how unselfish you are by looking at what you have posted; you are caring about others and urging them to take care of themselves even though you are drained
