What’s something you outgrew… but still think about sometimes?
It could be a habit, a phase, a person, or even a version of yourself. It’s strange how some things leave our lives but never fully leave our minds.
What’s yours?
@listeningyouout29 This is a great post! It really makes me think. 🤔
For me, it's me... Desiree has outgrown many things and many ways she used to be. Being honest, some ways for the good and some ways for the bad. There's always this part of who I used to be that I miss. This part I alway think about... but a part I knew was not good for me. Still, I miss her... ❤️ I miss me. It's just I grew up. I had to.
I've also outgrown people in my past. I love them and miss them, but they were not for my good. Nor did they truly have my best interests at heart. 💔 I had to learn that not all people in my life are meant to come with me in my future. Not all those people are my forever. They were, however, in my life for a reason... and just a season. I can still love and care and miss them from a distance though. People change and grow apart. I'm ok with this.
Wanted to thank you again for making this post that really made me think. I appreciate you. Have a good day and stay blessed.
@YourCaringConfidant
This is honestly so beautifully said.. can really feel how much growth and reflection lies in your words. That feeling of missing an old version of yourself, even when you know you outgrew her is very real. It's like grieving a part of you while also being proud of how far you've come.
Also it takes a lot of strength to accept that people are there for a reason or a season. Loving from a distance isn't easy, but it shows so much self awareness. Thank you for sharing this, it was really meaningful to read.
Naps... Nah I still enjoy those. The idea that breakfast was the most important meal of the day, so I had to have it, whether I was peckish or not.
Now I just wait until late morning or breakfast where the hunger has developed naturally. Which is good because I'm productive first thing and with the insomnia, after munching I can feel like napping :D
@ScrabbleBrain
Haha I like this one! It's interesting how we grow out of certain rules we were told. Listening to your body instead actually makes a lot more sense. Insomnia and food being the instant nap combo is very real 😭
@listeningyouout29 Yes not everything we learn is good for us but when you're adult, you figure out the useful stuff and ditch the rest :)
Didn’t really outgrow this in the sense you’re meaning, but time took this. A real online art community. I miss it severely. I miss old DeviantArt.
@ConstellationSystem
I can relate! Old online spaces had a totally different vibe. It was about the feeling that came with being a part of the platform 😭🤌
Yes :( more community than now. Things are so … disingenuous and corporate now.
@ConstellationSystem
I knoww 😭 Everything feels too minimalistic, performative and boring.
Completely agree.
@ConstellationSystem
Idk about the "old" part (dunno it really), but I LOVE DeviantArt! The incredible quality of the art there is AMAZING and inspiring <3
I feel sad because AI art is on it quite a lot now and people don’t talk together much anymore. Before it was closer knit an all art was real. But it’s good and nice you like DA now still and can enjoy it
There’s AI now???
I didn’t know they COULD talk.
DeviantArt is where I get some of my art inspo. Unfortunately, some of it is, actually, deviant. I wish it wasn’t :(
@unassumingLime9061
I'm sorry you had to deal with that. That's really frustrating and confusing...especially when you're being blamed no matter what you say. I can relate with the part where you'd start predicting the patterns just to cope with it. It really messes your head.
You were just trying to meet a basic need and be heard :(
@listeningyouout29
I really dig this question.
I outgrew the idea that I was going to grow up to be some kind of hero (however you want to define the word). I had to learn that not all of us end up becoming the people we hoped we would when we were younger.
Some of us have to settle for who we are, and that's okay. There no shame or failure in it.
Though I still think often about all the grand plans I had for myself when I was a kid.
@HearshotKid I totally relate to this. ☺️ *sigh of relief*
@HearshotKid
I love how honestly you put this. That shift is definitely not easy to accept at all. But at the same time, there's something quietly strong about it. It doesn't feel like settling as much as understanding yourself in a real way.
Those old dreams do stay with us, just in a different form.
@YourCaringConfidant @listeningyouout29
Cheers, guys.
That's a good way to put it. You don't abandon those dreams, but rather you trade them for wisdom and understanding. I can live with that.
@listeningyouout29 The old me.
@BusyBird
Outgrowing yourself is probably one of the hardest things to accept :(
@listeningyouout29 Yeah :(
