Relationship problems I'm having and need advice
Me and my girlfriend have been together for around 2 years and we’ve spoken every day during that time.
Recently we had an argument where I lost my temper and shouted things I really regret. I want to be honest about what happened because I know I was in the wrong for how I handled it.
The situation had been building up for a while because I felt a bit disrespected and not valued. She had been falling asleep on me quite a few times when we were talking, and it kept happening. After a long day recently it happened again, and I let my frustration build up and I snapped.
In that moment I said things like I was “sick of it” and called her “full of it” (I originally used swear words, but I don’t want to repeat them), and I also said she doesn’t really do anything to be that tired. When she tried to talk to me after, I shut it down because I was angry and didn’t handle it properly. I now realise I was wrong for how I spoke to her and how I reacted.
Afterwards, she said things like:
“I don’t want this, I don’t want to make this decision, I don’t know what to do”
“I don’t like this”
“I don’t know what to do, I can’t just live with this knowing what I said to me”
“It’s unacceptable and I don’t know what to do about it”
“I shouldn’t have been spoken to like that”
“I don’t know if I can go back from that”
She didn’t directly say it’s over, but she sounds really hurt and unsure.
I apologised properly afterwards and took responsibility for how I spoke to her. I told her I understand I shouldn’t have shouted or said what I said, that I should have communicated better instead of reacting emotionally, and that I’m genuinely sorry.
I also sent her a message saying I understand if she needs space, that I respect that, and that I still care about her. I said I’m willing to talk when she is ready and try to fix things properly if possible. The message I sent was:
"Hey I’ve been thinking about everything and I understand more now how hurt you’ve been and why you felt that way I realise I didn’t always stop and properly listen the way you needed in those moments I was more focused on explaining myself instead of understanding you first and I’m really sorry for that I never wanted to make you feel that way and I’m really sorry for hurting you I also understand more now that we can experience the same situation in completely different ways and I should’ve taken more time to properly listen and understand how it felt for you instead of focusing on my own perspective in the moment I care about you a lot and I do want to make this work because I don’t want to lose you and I know I need to show that through my actions not just words and I’m sorry it took me getting close to losing you to realise I needed to do better but I really am prepared to do anything to make this work because I really do love you ❤️"
Since then, she hasn’t really responded. We’ve gone from talking every day for 2 years to almost nothing suddenly. She hasn’t blocked me, but she’s been very quiet and not opening messages consistently.
I’ve been overthinking a lot and checking if she is online, which I know isn’t healthy. I’ve also spoken to my nan and some people online because I’ve been struggling with it emotionally and trying to handle it better instead of making it worse.
My nan thinks she’s likely just really upset rather than it being fully over, and said that if it was completely done it probably would have been said already, especially after the call. She also said sometimes people just need time and space and that she might even show up in person or message again, and that I should wait and see what happens, especially over the next few days like my birthday.
Right now I feel stuck between giving her space because she’s clearly hurt, and feeling like I’m losing her by doing nothing.
From my perspective, and based on what others around me have said, it doesn’t feel like a definite breakup. It feels more like she’s overwhelmed, hurt, and unsure. But the silence is making me panic and overthink everything, especially because we’ve gone from constant contact for 2 years to suddenly nothing.
I’ve also been told that if she really wanted to fully end it, she may have already said it or blocked me, but at the same time I know that doesn’t guarantee anything and I’m trying not to rely on that too much.
I still care about her a lot and I don’t want to lose her, but I also don’t want to make things worse by pushing her when she needs space.
I just want honest outside opinions on:
does this sound fixable?
or does it sound like it’s already basically over?
and what should I actually do right now?
(other than this we’ve had an amazing relationship, we’ve had arguments before but always worked them out, and right now I’m actively working on improving my communication and how I handle my emotions and reactions.)

Honestly, if she asked for space, I would give it to her.
I wouldn't message at all.
And then she'll have the time and the space to decide if she wants to reach out and forgive.
I know it's difficult but you have to respect that .
I admire that you took responsibility for the way you reacted, it's not nice when someone we love isn't actively listening and in the heat of the moment you said the wrong thing, there should never be any use of bad language.
We are all human though and we make mistakes.
It's how we learn from them.
In those moments something changed for her.
But if you give her space, she'll have a clear mind to remember why youve been together for two years in the first place 🩷

@Amanda84 thank you this has really helped me I know I can't force her to stay with me and it will really hurt to lose her but I really hope we can work things out
@diplomaticPomegranate4162
Me too 🩷
@Amanda84 but I know as much as I love her If what's best for her is breaking up then I suppose I'm okay with that because as much as it will hurt me I still want what's best for her but I'm praying that whenever we talk if we do ever talk again that we can sort things and she will want to be with me not just come back if her heart isn't in it because that would just hurt us both
@diplomaticPomegranate4162
Absolutely, she needs to fully want it too and if she gives you a second chance, she has to embrace that and not hold it against you 🩷
@diplomaticPomegranate4162 I can understand both of those perspectives, often times emotions can feel so big and can just take over and cloud your judgement. I believe an honest and mature conversation could lead to some sort of conclusion between you two, but space between you guys could give her time to process her emotions and your own emotions. Staying constant in her life while giving her space can let her know that your still there for her and you are ready for whenever she's ready to talk.
This is a hard one. And I want to be very careful not to make it worse. All I can say is, if I was in your position, maybe a little love bombing (flowers, chocolates) typically unhealthy behavior but with your girl friend of two years I thinks it’s a good thing. Keep messages short and sweet, “I’m sorry and I love you”. Don’t let her know you are coming apart and don’t leave a lot for interpretation. Stay calm and don’t do anything to make it worse. She is probably just punishing you or testing you, so make sure you pass. Sometimes doing less, tactically, is a good way. Don’t vanish but don’t be too pushy. Remember what made her love you to begin with, maybe lead with that. Good luck.
Seems dumb to break up over that. And I don’t blame her for being upset though not talking for days or weeks is overdoing it especially if you’re not usually blowing up at her. If you do break up then probably for the best if she couldn’t handle it but what if it was the other way around? Sounds like you’d stay with her if that happened. For now give her space and do what you have to or want and don’t bother her. Relationships aren’t for the weak. Now I’m not saying to be abusive or stay in an abusive relationship. Relationships will have ups and downs. Not arguing or disagreeing isn’t completely healthy at all and always arguing is really not healthy either. If you never disagree or argue that’s pretty weird and will have consequences sooner or later. Nobody likes a Yes man except those taking advantage and even then once they outlive their use they’re discarded of. It’s good you apologized and let her know how you feel but don’t repeat yourself or beg. Have some respect for yourself and you already explained and were big enough to say you’re sorry. I can understand if you’re tired of her falling asleep on you and how it can feel rude especially if you haven’t done that to her but at the same time you have to realize she’s sleepy around a certain time and it’s probably best to let her go to sleep and continue the conversation another time later on or cut the conversation off before she or you are really sleepy so neither her or you fall asleep on each other. That way you or her won’t get mad about it and go off about it.
@diplomaticPomegranate4162 I wish you the best 🍀🤍 we're all here for you ❤️ Sending you lots of love and *Biggg hugs* 🐾💕
