Trying to Empower Ourselves When it Feels Impossible
Alrighty beautiful people! Today, I wanted to talk about trying to empower ourselves when it feels impossible. Personally as a teen, I have felt uninspired, discouraged, and down when it comes to grades, athletics, clubs, peers, teachers, etc. During those times, it can be hard to still empower myself when it feels like the whole world is coming down on me. When something bad happens, it can ruin our self-esteem, mindset, mental health, and more. I wanted to talk about some ways that we can empower ourselves during these times so we can prevent the situation from becoming worse.
1. Environment
Surround yourself with people who love you exactly the way that you are and people who you feel safe, comfortable, and accepted with. If you can't find those people, 7Cups has your back and we can be that environment for you.
2. Affirmations
When we say positive sentences to ourselves, whether its infront of the mirror or under our breath, it can change our perspective on a lot. Saying "I am worthy", "I am valued", "I am strong", and more can help us reassess ourselves and help us go forward with knowing that we are warriors who can do anything.
3. Rewarding Ourselves
Hey! A little treat ain't going to hurt nobody! When we have a set motivation (such as candy or free time) after a given chore or project we have to accomplish, it can help us look forward to something and keep us postive with knowing that after this bump in the road, there is something we love waiting for us on the other end!
What are some of your ways you try to empower yourself when it feels impossible?
@blogger123 This is such a good post and such great ideas!! Really relate to it!!!
Whenever I am sad I look at myself in the mirror and smile. I do feel stupid for a while though. The other thing is that I constantly whisper to myself that 'it's ok, it's ok, it's ok, it's ok, it's ok" Try to reassure myself.
Thank you for sharing your empowerment strategies. Reading this made me realize I need to do more self-affirmations. I simply forget.
@Chicuno You got this!
@blogger123
Thanks. When listen to a positive mixtape, Ill speak along with it hoping Ill believe what Im saying. Its difficult to say positive things about myself without it but I will try.
How do you approach what to choose say to yourself? Ex: when you have an ANT(Automatic negative thought) or just as a practice at a certain time?
@Chicuno I like to choose affirmations that I know I can truly relate to and trust. If I say
@blogger123
Youre right-it makes sense. Thank you!
@blogger123 I think another good way to empower ourselves is to remind ourselves, constantly, that we have come to a certain point of growth, and thus can go further. Remind yourself of your accomplishments, to keep being motivated to further expand that list!
When my mind is twisting into the negative, I draw strength when thinking about the people who suffer from war, hunger etc. Their cultures teach them not to lament or think negatively since they need all their strength to survive. Instead they learn to cherish the little things.
I do not live in a life threatening environment that's why my brain sometimes turns into a negative copy of itself. But when I remind of the people who are fighting for their lives while focusing on the positive aspects of life I remember that thinking negatively is just a waste of energy. Then I speak to myself, struggling to regain my everyday optimism. I speak to myself, reminding me of my usual positive thinking patterns until I am living them again.
I do it like some African cultures and dance even in the most terrible moments.
Also I managed to stop having suicidal thoughts. How? I became aware that the wish of killing myself was just a wish to escape from my current situation. I don't really want to be dead, I just want to be out of the situation. Since I noticed that these thoughts stopped. Even when my brain is twisted to the negative, they do not occur anymore.
My brain rarely twists these days. Maybe once or twice a year. And I can predict that the amount of me becoming negative is decreasing 😊.
