MANAGING MENTAL HEALTH IN THE WORKPLACE: Series 2 (support the co-workers)
Simple steps to support the co-workers in work place:
We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health, and it can fluctuate. Diffrent factors like long working hours, excessive work pressure, timing etc. can lead to unmanageable stress, which in turn can worsen or cause a mental health problem.
Its important for all us to create an environment where collegues feel able to talk openly about stress and mental health at work.
If you think any co worker or collegue of you is strugling with mental health, then you can follow these steps to help them:

1. Encourage them to talk:
If we create an atmosphere in which the person feels safe and comfortable, and let them know that what we discuss with respect to health matters is confidential, then they may feel more open to talking with us.
2. Avoid making assumptions:
If we do not try to guess what symptoms a co-worker might have and how these might affect their life or their ability to do their job – many people are able to manage their condition and perform their role to a high standard.
3. Encourage them to seek support from the workplace:
If someone feels like their workload is spiralling out of control, we can encourage them to discuss it with the manager or supervisor.
4. Respect confidentiality:
mental health information is confidential and sensitive. we can't pass on information unnecessarily – because this breach of trust could negatively impact someones mental health.
5. Learn about mental health
If we learn more about mental health issues then we can easily provide them more information and resources.
Now we can easily support our fellow collegues at work place.
1. Do you think above steps are insufficient for supporting? If you think yes then please share your points with us?
2. Do you ever support any collegues of your work place? If you do then tell us how you did ?
