YOU ARE NOT YOUR DISORDER!

I wish that everyone could understand this. I know it is a weird concept but you are not your disorder. Your brain reacts poorly to things due to the disorder. BUT IT IS NOT YOU.

You are not depressed.

You have depression.

At least this is how I like to look at it.

Maybe I am wrong?

Makes sense. I have social anxiety. I'm not social anxiety though. In fact, I often enjoy talking to people I can trust.

That's so true and beautiful. I have anorexia, but I'm not anorexia. I'm way more.

I have depression I have anxiety I have bulimia But none of these things define me as a human. I'm still me just with little dents in my lifestyle.

The brain/mind is a complicated "thing". I find it funny how easy it's to deceive our own-self. All these states of feelings and moods are triggered by thoughts/actions in our minds. If we would to concentrate onthe positive side we can also alter our bad feelings into good ones :)

This is an interesting way of looking at it @saviorcomplex. And, yes, I agree with what you're saying.

Whether we suffer from anxiety, depression, or anything else, it does not define us. We are not a label.

I 100% agree! We wouldn't call someone "cancered" or "broken legged", but we allow mental health disorders to define a person anyhow. I think about this a lot with eating disorders, too. You are not anorexic or bulimic, you struggle with anorexia or bulimia.

Thanks for the reminder to us all!

I thought a bit about this and I guess I can say it made my day. I'm not my disorder; I'm a person, I have desires, I have emotions, I have ideas, I have needs.

People should visit this thread/think about this more often.
