Hello everyone! Happy December! ❤️ Welcome to our Dinner With Our Alumni series! For those joining this series now, our dinners are a collection of small interviews with alumni of the Group Leadership & Dynamics Development (GLDD) program. These help us reflect upon the program and help our current trainees as well as spread awareness about the program! If you like them, do tell us!

Please welcome @courageousheart96! Courageous describes themselves as introverted but loves engaging, hosting sessions/discussions, and participating in group chats with our lovely members and listeners. They are always striving to improve themselves through the various programs we have on here and to become a better listener, leader and individual (how courageous!). They have been a listener here since 2017 and have contributed a lot to the community.

Without further ado, here's courageous:

What made you join the GLDD program?

I wanted to learn a lot more about hosting, and group chats. It encouraged me to join more leadership roles such as room supporter, peer supporter, joining the care team, the quality team, AL4 graders. It allowed me to step out of the box. 😊

I see that one of the GLDD requirements was to host discussions. What did you like about that the most?

I liked discussions, it gave listeners and members the opportunity to share their views and also learn about the topic. I really liked the healthy living discussion on detoxification or the discussions in LGBTQ+ to bring more awareness etc.

How was your experience doing the program?

There were ups and downs, I felt like the lessons were easy to read and also easy to apply too. All the resources were available at hand, I did not have any trouble. I would have liked a Multiple choice question session after each lesson, if that makes sense? (Absolutely!)

Which is your favourite activity in the program?

I think applying what I learned and seeing its progress and how I was able to improve my skills. I enjoyed hosting members and listeners sharing sessions.

What’s the one thing you learned that you will always remember?

I think definitely the active listening sessions, leadership skills, confidentiality, keeping 7cups safe. These skills can be applied to the outside world.

What advice would you give to a new GLDD trainee?

Have a timeline planned, talk to your mentors (have at least two), Keep all the necessary google forms nearby, be consistent and proactive with your hours.

How can mentors offer better support for the program?

I felt like sometimes, it can be overwhelming for mentors to have a lot of trainees messaging them at once. so maybe having more mentors available can be helpful. Also, group meetups, like they do with the internship program, would be great.

If you could change one thing about the program, what would it be?

Let me see. I can see that a lot of hard work went into creating this program. So maybe have that multiple choice questions after each lesson might help 🤔
