Step 5770:

I can successfully avoid a depression and the victim mnetality by choosing to " narrirate" and understand what is happening to me in a different way. Just did that today and what I originally thought of as bad - turned out to be the BEST thing.

Accepting myself is harder than accepting my situation, although I often blame my depression on my relationship. If I could see myself as basically good and be self-content, I would not feel like I constantly have to ingratiate self to others in order to feel worthwhile. Recently retired from a helping profession, I am realizing now how my self worth depended all those years on the feedback of others.

I keep seeking outside myself for the magical answer that will fix or free me - but it it not without outside of myself where the answers are.

Step 90:

I have learned that my inner monologue about myself actually does have an impact on how I think about myself as a person. I need to step in and do what I can to interrupt this negative thinking pattern.

If I would not say it to a friend, I cannot say it to myself. This is unfortunately so difficult for me to implement, but recovery is a process and I am heading in the right direction.

sometimes you have to stand on your own and you are stronger than you think.
