The Freedom of Forgiveness Thread

August 17th, 2023

Activity: Think of someone who you need to forgive for freeing yourself from the resentment you carry against them. Now type a few words of compassion and forgiveness towards them (don't take their name). You can forgive yourself too.

If uncomfortable doing so, not necessary to participate❤️ You can observe and support others' answers.

There is a long long long list of people who have committed offenses upon me without cause.

My life has been a hard one. For my own sake, this is written to ALL THE THIEVES:

I forgive you, not for your sake but for mine.

The things of mine you thieved, in your possession they are causing you harm and bringing about justice.

You have by doing this eaten poison which is its own justice.

My Master is a loving God He is all powerful; He keeps me going and my conscience clear. My bread is meager but I eat it in peace.

I forgive you all.

To forgive someone who doesn't think or care that your forgiveness matters because they don't care or honestly don't think they did anything wrong is a battle with our own ego.

It is a battle I currently struggle with in a huge way in my daily functioning world.😕.

To let go completely is to lose something I once cherished, not a romantic relationship but definetly a relationship of what I feel was a betrayal but then my glaring faults may have caused.

I'm not forgiving enough to take full blame..... My Ego getting in the way of an act of forgiveness.... Perpetuating or continuing my discomfort and unhappiness in this matter.

1- I forgive you for everything, I know we weren’t mature but I really hope you are ok and wish you the best life. You deserve good but please work on yourself too

2- I know you have you’re ways and I can’t change you but I wish you could love me like you love them, I always wanted to be more close to you even if it wasn’t vital but you are important and I forgive you thanks for everything

3- I know you didn’t want me and I didn’t have the option to decide to be in your life or not but I forgive everything even if still hurts

@Fristo I um I don't think I can forgive my owners. But I'm working on forgiving myself. I realise I wasn't in control, so probably shouldn't blame myself for letting these bad things happen to me. But it's hard not to blame myself for some things

Don't blame yourself for something to didn't cause.

You should be very proud that you survived and you still being able to know love. I see it whenever you are in the forums interacting with others.

Thank you for your kind and uplifting comment for sweet Lola aka tinywhisper11 aka the bestest bean ever! ❤

Specially this "....and you still being able to know love" ~ this is spot on, Lola is such an inspirational force here, not letting the darkness around her take space inside her beautiful heart, meant for all things light, bright and loving only!

@tinywhisper11 you make me proud every single day, Lola. Lots of love and giant tiny hugs! Keep being you always, if that asks for you to take your time in realizing more often that you weren't at fault, and that you're deserving of kindness and love, but most of all, forgiving yourself and accepting the *you* we all love so much today ~ then you have it~ all the time you need! ❤

Wow shades of AA.

Steps

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

I forgive my dad.

I don't really think he knows the damage he has done in our relationship and that it wasn't my fault for leaving the family. I really think because of his mental health issues he is clueless.

I hope he realizes someday how much I love him and want him to be well.

I forgive you, person I thought was my friend. I also forgive myself for being so affected by everything you do, even if it doesn't involve me. It is time to let go.

Maybe it’s because I’ve read a lot more non-Christian writers lately, but I really have to disagree with the premises that: (1) forgiveness is a private act that is done solely for the benefit of the one forgiving, and (2) that anyone, ever, for any reason, HAS to forgive anyone else.

For me, forgiveness by its very nature is a ritual that has to involve the person being forgiven, at a bare minimum. If you “forgive” someone without even telling them, you haven’t forgiven them, you’ve just moved on and/or written them off (both of which can be very valid and are usually a good idea as well, they just aren’t “forgiveness”). To forgive someone, you have to: (1) tell them you’ve forgiven them, and (2) treat them as if everything is cool between you two now, because by forgiving them you’ve just said it is.

Meanwhile, not everyone deserves to be forgiven, and nobody should ever be made to feel that they “must” forgive anyone—not even “for your own good.” When someone hurts you and expresses no remorse and takes no action to right that wrong, that person does not deserve to have their slate wiped clean. That person does not get to then compel you to tell them it’s okay. That person does not get to make you “forgive” them secretly or in private either. Forgiving them would only give them a free pass to hurt you again, or to hurt someone else. Forgiving an unrepentant wrong-doer only normalizes their behavior.

This is a really powerful thread and I think we all relate to it in one way or another. As for me, I need to forgive myself for the mistakes I have made in the past. There is no going back now but there is always the opportunity to learn and grow from your mistakes which is what I am doing every day now.
