Good in the world

So, lately, I've been feeling pretty down about the state of...everything. And why not, right? Alot of things are just horrible, and I wouldn't even know where to begin fixing it.

But...the more sorrow I take on seeing others hurt, the less I'm able to actually help them. It's a bit of a vicious cycle, and frankly: I'm done with it.

Sometimes hope isn't just born, i guess. Sometimes you have to nurture it.

So this is basically a thread of the good things in the world. Feel free to add to it! Even personal anecdotes of experiencing that good are welcome!

I want it to be like, a really really long thread xD I want to believe it can.

So, the first one, without further ado:

This ones for the turtle lovers!

A sea turtle entangled in a fishing net has been successfully rescued in Cape Cod Bay (who else is wondering where that is? xD)

I couldnt find a clear image of the turtle himself (?) so yall are going to have to just look at the news line:

500 pounds is approx. 227 kilograms, by the way- since i dont get pounds xD our massive turtle friend is safe 👐

Judge whether im giving you accurate facts here and here :)

Awesome thread!

You are welcome! 💜

And thank you for promoting a more balanced view of reality.

There are many awful things in the world, and we know that very well, particularly as a Listener in Cups, we hear terrible things happening.

But there are also good things. Most of what goes on in the world is good. Good things don't make headline news.

Giving those good things the place they deserve, like your thread does, helps us reduce anxiety, promotes happiness and overall mental health and wellbeing.

Thank you again for this enlightening and most positive initiative!

@unassumingEyes a new cat colour has dropped! It is caused by a genetic mutation, resulting in their hair starting black around the follicle, then turning white as it grows further. They are called salmiak (=salty liquorice) and they are adorable.

Thank you. Yes, there is a sliding button, but whenever I move it to 'subscribe' it moves back automatically. Is it possible that this is something to do with my phone's settings? Thank you again

Indian Charity Organizes Limb Giveaway for 75 Afghan Amputees, Fitting Them with Free Prosthetic Feet

Though Afghanistan is rarely in the headlines anymore, that doesn’t mean the country has stopped making news.

From Kabul comes the story of an Indian charity that gave out prosthetic feet and lower limbs to 75 amputees free of charge thanks to help from generous Indian donors and support from the national government.

Held between June 19th and 24th at a government hospital in central Kabul, the Jaipur Foot Camp was organized by the charity called Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) in collaboration with the Indian consulate in Kabul.

This is the 155th time the charity has organized one of these prosthesis drives in a far away country, the organization’s founder and chief patron, D. R. Mehta, told GNN.

“Irrespective of where the amputee is from, if the amputees visit us at our Jaipur Foot Center, they would be provided with an artificial limb totally free of charge and without any discrimination on the ground of religion,” said Mr. Mehta.

Jaipur Foot centers have been established across the Global South, in countries like Mauritius, Congo, Philippines, and Tanzania.

They not only offer the prosthetic free of charge, but a raft of support measures like physical training and rehabilitation to get the patients used to walking with it, as well as emotional support for wounds that can’t be bandaged.

In Kabul, BMVSS also organized training for local hospital staff in the procedure for measuring, creating, and fitting a prosthetic, while the Indian volunteers provided the hospital with the machines and materials needed to create the simple, effective prosthetics.

@jesusredeemedme2425 yeah both my legs were amputated above the knee which makes it more difficult. But the fact that the bottom of my spine is still broken and I'm paralysed from the waist down means it's practically imposiblr🙁 and my fingers 🤔 I don't even know if they do prosthetic fingers🤔🤔

But one day I'm gonna have springs for legs 😁 so I can boing! Around boing! Boing! Boing! And little pistols as fingers😁😁 I'll be so cool

@Tinywhisper11

I will try to dig up a news article that would fit in with this thread. I deals with scientists discovering how to give a person who is paralyzed a new outlook on life. The prosthetics are neurology attached to the upper spine and brain. Allowing the person to manipulate the prosthetics and giving the person mobility. I was amazed at this type of progress they are making.
