You have $5,000 to spend on someone you love, what would you do with the money?

Give them the money to do as they please. Over the years I’ve understood that rather than the gifts, they appreciated the money or gift voucher more (my mother, husband, MIL, kids) .. so that they could go shopping and spend it as they please.

so I’ll give the money in an Ang-pow (colourful paper envelopes)

@patientTree4231

I think this is a really good answer. If you really love them, you let them decide what is best for them.

Googled it: (Sorry the formatting might be weird)

An ang pow, also known as a red packet or hóngbāo (紅包) in Chinese, is a red envelope filled with money that is given as a gift during special occasions in Chinese and other East Asian cultures. The gift symbolizes good luck, prosperity, and good wishes for the new year. The red color is also considered a symbol of life and happiness.

Ang pows are often given by parents or married couples to younger generations, such as children and single people. They can be given on occasions like Chinese New Year, weddings, and birthdays, and are meant to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune. In Cambodia, ang pows are given on Chinese New Year or Saen Chen, and the recipient may keep the gift as a worship item under their pillowcase.

The envelope itself is also important, and ang pows can come in different colors and materials. Some say that amounts containing the number 8 are particularly lucky, but round or even numbers are also acceptable. When giving and receiving ang pows, it is customary to use both hands to show respect.

I would pay off any debt that I could, or try to make them happy by taking them to a place they’ve always dreamed of visiting!

@jesusredeemedme2425

I would send my kids on a vacation, maybe a cruise so they can relax and hopefully de-stress.

I would send it to @Tinywhisper11 so she and a caregiver could take her out and explore the world a little.
