It's important to remember that resilience is not a static personality trait but one which is adapted to, and it doesn't mean we should be emotionless or hide from our feelings. And nor does it call for unhelpful toxic positivity.

What skills come to mind when you hear the word resilience?

@Amanda84 fighting addiction maybe? More globally I would say fighting ourselves. 😊💌

@CecileBrieur74

I get what you mean re fighting ourselves!

The skill here could be not self sabotaging.

Not being self critical.

Accountability.

Learning from mistakes.

Trying new things.

Not expecting the worst from every situation.

In the case of addiction, it could be:

Asking for help.

Putting in the work.

Joining a meeting.

Ownership.

Vulnerability.

Acceptance that we all struggle.

That we are not perfect.

Thank you for your valued input 💚🤗

@Amanda84 exactly this is completely that, I think we think resilience means alone when it's the total opposite! 💚

Mmm the first thing that came to my mind was patience. It’s a word I had to learn how to “like” by the way, it’s a love and hate relationship 😆. As a kid I’d be very anxious and always wanted immediate results for things. I’d get frustrated if that didn’t happen. My grandma would tell me “you need to be patient, some things will take more time to happen, and you’ll have to wait if you want to see the results.” Here in Brasil we have a saying “haste is the enemy of perfection”. My mind has always been super active and I still struggle with anxiety, but now I try to always give patience a try. And I’ve been getting good results from it.

Not always easy tho…

@loyalApricot512

It's not easy at all.

But I agree.

And your grandmother is wise 💚

Today we are living in an age where we want everything instant.

We don't want to wait.

But patience is something we need to work on because anything worth having requires effort 💚🤗

Appreciate your input 💚

Resilience for me is the skill of being nonchalant.  A skill where you don't let others affect you even if they keep saying negative things.  But you know in yourself you are not like that.

Resilience is imho not what, or who, you allow to affect you. There's nothing bad about external motivation or validation. And there's nothing bad about feeling hurt.

Imo resilience is about not accepting "being this" for longer than a forseeable period of time. I'd say it's about endurance and salvation

As an alternative question, what's the difference between resilience, passion and patience?

User Profile: Amanda84

@DawnedCat

Exactly.

Feel what you feel.

This is not weakness.

Resilience doesn't mean hiding or accepting, it's about working through 🤗💚

Resilience means self compassion for me and being honest about my capacity. Resilience doesn’t mean to burn out and it means that it’s important to find creative ways to connect and express myself so I can keep striving to reach my goals.

When I hear the word ‘resilience’ I always think of mental toughness and keeping it all together, even when inside we’re not always feeling it. The skill that comes to mind is acceptance with the knowledge we’re doing the best to our ability.

@RainbowRosie

Yes, you make a great point, doing your best is all we can ask for me. Sometimes we think we are weak because others seem to handle things better, but resilience isn't about putting on a brave face, it's about maintaining hope always 💚🤗
