The giant roamed free in the wilderness, taking refuge in caves at night and foraging the lands during the day. It was a quiet and reflective life, but he saw much beauty in everything.
Away from the bright lights of the city, he had a view of the stars that one could only dream of. After each day of searching and longing, he would gaze upwards at dazzling sparks of hope, twinkling with unbreakable courage. They were a reflection of his spirit, kind and true, but he yearned for company as they had. Though separated by incredible distances, the stars formed an orchestra, offering music to the eyes freely and endlessly. He wanted nothing more than to be a part of something greater than himself.
Though his life was peaceful, he had been exiled from the city. His differences to the common person were stark: he was as tall as a house; his voice was low and booming; his appearance was frightening, with many considering him a monster; and his movements were slow and considered, for he had to think carefully about what he stepped on. His feet brought destruction to whatever found itself underneath, so he took great care with each stride.
On the horizon, he could see the city. Silhouettes of buildings stood as a testament to human progress. He wished that someday, he could live with the humans and be accepted and understood by society. The thought of collaboration ignited his imagination. The possibilities were tantalising, like hot soup in a gentle snow.
On a fresh spring morning, he found himself pondering the person. He wondered why he scared them so, for he had never deliberately caused any harm. He was a friend to all, helping creatures great and small in whatever self-imposed quest that took their fancy. Suddenly, his train of thought was interrupted by an energetic voice that called out: "Hello!"
A young woman excitedly ran to the giant, and upon closing the gap between them so she could speak without yelling, she looked up and asked: "How are you?" It was a deeper question than the giant realised, as the young woman was genuinely curious how he had come to be and what his way of life was about.
They talked for hours. The giant explained how he was the last of his kind, with the rest of his kin falling in a terrible war long ago. He spoke in whispers so that his words did not pierce, for even though humans were the perpetrators of his family's demise, he had a deep and unexplainable love for them. While he enjoyed the conversation, he eventually had to ask: "Why are you here, inquisitive being from a far off place?"
She responded: "I was sent by my people in search of new things. I was given but one instruction: to seek. My mind turned to the past, and I remembered the tragedy of our conflict. I reckoned, perhaps, that in the old might lie the new, and so I sought you and reconciliation."
The giant replied: "You are wise beyond your years, young one. Perhaps we are more alike than we admit, because we are the same in that we are all different. In diversity lies our strength. The more ingredients one has to cook with, the more delectable meals one can make. If we can be an original and unique spice for each other, who knows what we might discover."
The young woman was intrigued and pleased. She agreed to go back to the city and soften the hearts of the people so the giant would be welcomed. She requested three days to speak her truth before he made his entrance, confident her plight would open eyes. It was a risk: he could be killed if she was unsuccessful.
Over the next three days, he thought of the bravery of the stars. They shined without regret, radiating brilliantly despite seemingly endless darkness. They served as limitless motivation. When the time came to begin his journey across the countryside, he set off with a song in his heart and a smile that stretched for miles.
To his surprise, he was greeted by a party of beaming and bright people. His soul stirred with delight as he was led to a vast park, where he was beckoned to speak.
He spoke of a potential future, where everyone could work together in harmony. He described how things could be mutually beneficial. He pointed out that forgiveness gave way to true freedom, and that while the past should be respected, the countless days that were to come held much promise. The people rejoiced, and declared the park his home.
In time, the people built him a suitable shelter. The giant, in return, shared the secrets of a good life. He also showed them how to create medicines with no bad side effects, which healed even the sickest individuals. The young woman, who had extended a compassionate hand, was right: in the old lay the way to the new.
The giant and the people learned much together, and each day proved better than the last. Like the stars, they shone in unison without shame, creating a veritable paradise the marvel of the world all over.
Diversity proved to be the door to enduring greatness, with acceptance as the key.
This is PERFECT and beautifully written! You NEED to publish this <3
@jesusredeemedme2425
Thanks Kiara! You are very kind and encouraging. Thanks for the prompt.
Publishing is the plan, but I think I will have to self-publish. I can't accept editorial cuts or major modifications. My sister said she is interested in helping me edit things. She is talented.
Can you self publish via Amazon?
@jesusredeemedme2425
I think so! I'm still learning about all of that.
@cyanessence
Wow,
The true beauty of life and it's intricacies and wonderment as seen through the eyes of a giant, always on the outside looking in, until someone finally looked past the superficial and a true connection blossomed.
You are a talent 💜
