Things Dads Wish You Knew

If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?

If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

My husband wishes people knew how hard dads work to make moms' lives easier, especially during pregnancy and during the postpartum period. The rare times that I had friends and family over to help, they all commented on how I had the hardest job, even though my husband was the one sacrificing his sleep to give me rest, and the one doing all the cooking. He was my brain when I was too stressed to process information and make decisions. He felt unappreciated when all his hard work went unnoticed.

Oh, and he had the stress of taking care of a baby AND the stress of dealing with my extreme moodiness and emotional dysregulation. I behaved horrendously at times.

Never say no to the woman who gave birth to your child 😬🫢

I can't recall the number of times I would be at work and get a call to come home and see to my child because my wife was at her wits end. Even got fired from a job I truly enjoyed.

Spoil your kids to no end 😁, my youngest will be 40 this year and I have no regrets. ❤️😘

Oof that is relatable. I have asked my husband to come home from work, too. I am pregnant and I have a 2 year-old, and I could not function.
