Things Introverts Wish You Knew

If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?

If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

@jesusredeemedme2425

I dont know if im an introvert or what 😁 my friends irl say i am. But I do like people and being with people and stuff like big events and crowded parties, just my brain sometimes sabotages me during 😮‍💨 i dont prefer staying at home to outings with friends but depending on the friend i can be very quite on said occasions. Close friends get the talkative version of me xD

@jesusredeemedme2425 I consider myself an introvert, so here's what I wish people would know. I'm an enigma, so hopefully I don't confuse y'all too much. 😀

I absolutely love being alone and by myself. And, no, I don't get lonely or feel bad. And, no, I don't do this or be this way to be some type of way. My alone time is just where I can have peace. Where I can think. Where I can be happy. Where I feel safe. It's where I feel better, because people exhaust me on the daily.

I'm a person with many mental problems. I call my diagnoses my problems, because that's what they are. I have enough inside internally that I don't have room for people with their drama. Because to me, I have to cherish my inner peace. I have a hate love thing with people. It's not that I don't like people... it's just I don't like being around people. Too many different personalities for me. Too draining for me. Too much noise for me. In my real life, I get easily overstimulated and overwhelmed and I have bad anxiety. I like safe people. I only like my people, but I can't have overly codependent or needy people. I have to have my space. I have to be free. I have to be me. I can't have too much.

What's funny is I'm a Gemini. The whole social 🦋 thing does not apply for me. People think I'm a people person, but honestly I'm far from it. And to be honest, it's not that I don't know how to talk. I just choose not to talk. I'm selective and guard myself. I have to be this way.

Now I do have my moments where I choose people, but its very short lived. Then when I get the wild hair, I just leave. I go. Unannounced most often. I retreat back to where I feel safe. Some people always need to be around people and can't stand quiet. I love it. I need it. I'm happy being in the presence of safe people where I don't even have to talk. 😂

I'm funny when you think about it. I order groceries to the house to avoid grocery stores and large crowds of people. It cuts down on my anxiety, but even then I wait until the people are gone before going on the porch. Yet the whole time I'm peeking out the window saying "hurry up and get off my porch.'" 😂 When I go out, I'm a people watcher. I like to observe people and their interactions with others. I have been like this since I was a kid.

Being an introvert does not mean I'm quiet. I just like my quiet and talk only when need. I don't really like to engage in the superficial bs. If something is worth talking about, I will. My level of taking depends on who you are. People who I like and who make me feel safe get to enjoy this Desiree. The others, well, they just get what the get and that's it. At the end of the day, I have to be me and ok with being me just as how I am.

Well, that's all. 😂

Although I don't believe in star signs, I always found it fascinating I was borderline between egomaniacal Leos and reserved Cancers...

Sometimes I do feel a blend of the two, sometimes chatty and hyper and other times, desperately needing space and alone time.

Introverts seemed to be painted as unfunctional messes but just because we are internal, it doesn't mean we can't entertain or chat.

My preference is a 1 on 1. I can give the person my complete focus and vice versa.

Everyone has this assumption I'm lonely but I don't feel that way. I multi task, I have fun alone. I'm silly, I have things to do. I don't just stare at walls.

Trust has to be earned, that's my extreme take, because too many people misrepresent themselves and I want no part of it.

I don't mind which personality you have, as long as you accept me for me, the moment, you tell me to change, You should talk more, share me, be more like me...

Ugh, I've gone completely off you. Remember not everyone thinks the same as you and has to act, the way, you think they should.

As an introvert myself, not that I don't enjoy interacting with people, I genuinely do. It's just that small talks drain a whole load of energy than deep conversations (Idk how but that's what happens with me, maybe because I'm very observant)

Also we have our own inner world surrounded by our own thoughts and activities and we personally enjoy them. It's just how we process and percieve things. Unlike the stigma that introverts are more/usually lonely, it's just not completely true. Yes sometimes we might feel lonely but so do the extroverts.

Please don’t take it personally if I don’t come to the party. I just need time by myself sometimes.
