Things People Who Have Body Dysmorphia Wish You Knew
If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?
If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

It's real... It's not for attention
What’s it like?
I hate my body a lot of the time. It's not even how others perceive me... I just feel completely ashamed and discussed... I try more now and days to be happy about how I look but in the back of my head I always feel so gross
Is it a trans thing, or a dissatisfaction with your body thing, or something else?
Everything honestly... Though at this point I'm really starting to feel like I'll just have to hide my feelings deep down forever... I don't know if I can or not but with all those killings recently of Trans people and hatred trans people are facing I might just have to hate myself forever 😞

It’s more about how I feel in my skin than how I actually look
It’s more about how I feel in my skin than how I actually look

I have gender dysmorphia. Which I’ve not been able to freely discuss for YEARS b/c I lived in a very conservative part of my country so there was no point. I had to pass as a straight person AND a cis person. Now I no longer have to do so and I get to see if there is any option open for transition. Given the country in which I reside, there might not be any longer. But I’m going to try. I’ve lived in the wrong body too long.
