Have you ever seen fireflies? - Magical experience from childhood
So I grew up in a small town where summer evenings were quiet and breezy. I remember seeing them since I was 7-8 years old. There was a huge marking nut tree next to my house and during late summers it would be swarming with them at night. Hundreds of them. They would also be on the bushes, hedges, and plants of all sorts.
Sometimes they used to come inside our house, mostly visible during blackouts at night. I've even had one sitting on my hand. It was a truly magical experience. Seeing light glowing inside tiny living creatures felt like holding a little miracle in my palm.✨
As I grew up, their appearance became less and less every year. Perhaps it was the radiation from the telecom towers, the increased use of chemicals in nearby farms, or maybe something else was dimming their presence.
I think the last time I saw one was when I was 14. We permanently moved out of that town at the time. It's been 15 years and I haven't seen a single firefly since.
Recently I read an article saying fireflies are disappearing all over the world, with habitat loss, pesticide use, and light pollution among the biggest threats to their survival. Their populations are declining rapidly, and if this continues, many of their species could go extinct within a generation.
It broke my heart and brought back all the beautiful memories. Watching them flicker in the dark, feeling amazed by something so simple and real - like a tiny spectacle from childhood, glowing just long enough to stay with you forever.💫❤️
Tagging the people I'd like to read this:

Thanks for tagging me in this @Joe85. I haven’t seen you in so long. How are you?
@virtualSolace44
Just coming back to cups after 8 months break. I'm doing good. How have you been?
I’ve been ok, thanks
My Heart breaks knowing that the World is losing its Magic in so many ways, not just with the decline of fireflies. I miss seeing them 💔
And unrelated to your post but I LOVE OTGW, great profile pic
@AmethystLotus
Yup it's tragic that nature is changing in so many ways.
Thanks, I love OTGW too, this is my fourth year of this image as cups halloween pfp.😄
It is, one of the things I do that helps me so much mentally/emotionally and Spiritually is feeding the wildlife. I feel like we really need to take better care of our planet and our wildlife neighbors
Unfortunately not everyone here agrees with that so I’m moving to a place with more land where I can feed my outdoor friends in peace, though I will miss the ones I have here 💔❤️🩹
And yessssss OTGW is really so great! I can’t wait for the weather to get colder so I can watch it through again with some tea or hot cocoa and the fireplace going!!!!

@AmethystLotus
I absolutely love nature and I spend time watching nature related documentaries. It's sad to see many marine and land organisms declining but also it's noted that even with little efforts, some species have shown great recovery at surprisingly rapid pace.
It's so relieving to know but still need a lot more efforts and awareness from humans.
@Joe85 thanks for tagging. It really is bittersweet (more bitter than sweet) to outlive something that you didn't realise you'd ever lose. Fun fact, my childhood nickname was something based on fireflies
@pluckyWalker8208
Yup it is bittersweet.
Aslo would like to know what the nickname was. Was it jugnu?
@Joe85 yes lol
