The first thing that comes to mind for me are "words" 🤔
Some kind of bug? they can leave debris behind that are harmful, they can give off poisons... just my stab at this one...lol.

Hmm. I think dreams too. Dreams come at night out of no where. During the day they can be over come by turning a daydream into a goal.
