Best Advice You Gave Or Received?

Giving someone with ADHD the idea of keeping a time management board. They must give themselves check marks for small tasks which will help with dealing with their main tasks. For example:

• 5pm-7pm : do homework

• 7pm-10pm : free time

obvouslt they want the free time, but cant do so until the homework is checked off

This is an advice that I both gave and received. This is what I taught myself to learn.

I like writing. My writing life has been pretty peaceful for 10 years now. But recently, I doubt my skills. I've been rejected by nearly all the zines and contests I apply to. Is this disheartening? Yes, very. I vented to a trusted friend, and, expecting an advice or at least a pat on the head, she gave me one word that she thought was the 'problem' with my writings:

Boring.

Did that crack my life? It did. I cried nights and days and damn it, writing seemed to be a labor. For the first time - I hated writing. I hated it more than anything else in the world. I hated it so, so much.

But then I thought to myself! What is so wrong about being a boring writer? It's neither harmful nor demoralizing. The worst it can do is killing someone with boredom, except this phrase is just a hyperbole and being bored to death literally would be impossible. At least in this case. No matter what, stories are, to an extent, still a form of entertainment.

This what I advised myself: it's okay to create 'boring' stuff. It's my own style, I should be proud.
