just simply, friend opens arms, says nothing or says "Come here, dear" and maybe something like "It is okay. Really, it is okay to cry. It is okay to cry when things are not okay - or things don't feel okay in your world."
AND
"Dear friend, (or) Dear (using my real name), I love you." and then being okay with me questioning that.
