Grief in the modern digital age

Hi everyone, times have changed. Back in the day we did not have the choice of connecting to anyone from any part of the world through internet and that has changed especially with the rise of social media use. Now you can search any topic and find people dealing with the same.

How do you think the act of grieving has changed in the current day and age?

Honestly, I don't think much has changed in this time and age in regards to grief. We still feel everything at heart, and no matter who we're grieving for, whether it's loved ones that live locally with us, or ones that live back home (overseas). That grief is still felt. It has nothing to do with the digital age. Unless it's a celebrity that made the news headlines, that they got into a fatal accident or they chose to leave the world themselves. I think, in that case, that is how normal people like ourselves will hear of the news, through the internet.

I think the immediate availability of digital cameras changed this a lot. We have tons of photos and videos of our loved ones in our phones with us every day. For someone like me it's a way to endlessly scroll through it and let the sadness and grief spin in my head forever. But it can be also for the good, mainly when you have happy memories to watch and to connect with others.

And since I'm not able to talk about my problems aloud, only write, then if not for the digital age I wouldn't be able to do any therapy I guess, it's great it's possible via text. I'm grateful for 7 Cups 🙏
