Tell us about a tool/practice that helped you process grief.
Hi everyone! We have been talking about grief, we discussed different quotes that help us make sense of grief and then we talked about the different types of grief. Now that we have had the chance to dive into grief a bit (Feel free to participate in the earlier posts now, if you have not yet). We will discuss what has helped us process our grief in life.
If you are comfortable sharing, tell us about a tool/practice that helped you process grief.
It is important to understand processing grief does not equal
Somatic work and exercise, scheduling my day out with things to accomplish
My tools for grief: allowing enough alone time for any hidden tears to come out naturally and flow out of my body, I would actually have plenty of sessions with my Support Worker pertaining to the many things I grieved (including my turbulent upbringing and the loss of my uncle etc), sometimes the pain spills over unexpectedly even when going through new seasons of life but I would remind myself of when I was told that it just comes out when it needs to, which leads me to working on being non judgmental towards myself to take things one day at a time, I try to avoid conflicting events in my schedule, I want to get back in the habit of rewarding myself with a day trip after I volunteer
After I lost my 20yr old son tragically and unexpectedly in 2021 due to a hit and run incident.. to help me cope I focussed on everyone else around, wrote a letter to my son, journaled, did grief counselling, got intoxicated beyond belief, practiced self care a lot, visited my sons grave as many times as I liked plus I have this set up on my room, a LifeSize cardboard cutout of my son, and I have a skeleton in his room with his clothes on.. and I also have a tribute tattoo and some great reminder tattoos like “everyday is a fresh start” and a phoenix because I’m still here fighting my demons
I lost my Aunty recently to Cancer and, she was the strongest woman I ever knew. She was my rock, my superstar. And to watch something like cancer take such a strong woman made me feel so scared for not just other members of my family going through the same thing, but also me. I miss her so much and I really don't want to accept her passing. I've been distracting myself allot at School by making sure I'm doing every extra thing possible. I haven't really experienced grief before and to be honest, I'm pretty sure I'm stopping myself from grieving. I just don't know how to do it. How to let her go. She was my guiding light, and the one person I thought could be it.
