Global Mod application updates

July 29th, 2019

Hey everyone.

For the last while we have had global mod applications closed. I know many of you have been eager to apply and Im happy to announce that we will be reopening applications. We have however adjusted requirements and expectations.

Global mods are experienced members of the community that are passionate about taking group support to the next level. Therefore we have the following requirements before you are able to apply to be a global moderator:

1. Be a community centered moderator for 3 rooms, for a minimum of 3 months.

2. Have had no behaviour reports or Mod Review feedback for 3 months.

3. Be willing to open 3 different pop up rooms every month and host an open chat for 1 hour each. These can be any 3 rooms! As long as they are pop up rooms it is up to you to decide.

Open chats are a perfect opportunity to facilitate great conversations within our role as moderators. If you are unsure about Open Chats or Pop Up rooms there is some additional info here! If you are interested and meet these requirements please feel free to apply here.

Please note: Current Global mods will have August to adjust to this new system. No badges will be removed for not meeting these requirements for August. However from September it will be expected that you also switch to these new monthly requirements, any global mod that loses their badge due to not meeting this requirement will be asked which rooms they wish to concentrate on as community centered moderator. (Obviously self care is priority and if you need to take self care from the global moderator role for up to 2 months please let @Lorraine234 or @Fluffyunicorns84 know)

We will set aside some time to discuss this during our next mod meeting so please keep an eye out for that date! If you have any questions please dont hesitate to reach out!

@Lorraine234 thanks for this thread.

One idea I had at least for myself is to attend Global Mod training again to refresh my skills and get up to date info. Can you make this option available to people?

Also can you make it available to Subcom Mods to retake Subcom Mod training to refresh their skills.

I think we call can benefit from knowing more certainly where we stand when dealing with inappropriate behavior and knowing a compassionate way of approaching this with a firmness that protects the rights of members attending discussions.

I think the guidelines for discussions need to be somewhat more restrictive than in open chat because we may have 20 members in a discussion that could get turned off if inappropriate behavior is not dealt with effectively. Also what are inappropriate behaviors for discussion may be different from those in open rooms. I think this might be a good topic to clarify.

@soulsings We never had Global mod training, instead the application asks for information to see if you have enough knowledge on the basics of the different subcommunities. (think hte overall feeling was that it would be hard to commit to more training from both parties - though who knows what the future could bring.)

Far as attending the training that CCM's attend before getting the role I am sure, Turtle would be up for you attending if anyone wished. We also trying to plan to bring back the quality moderator discussions and similar for RS too which will hopefully allow us to refresh our skills too.

We deliberately choose open chats, so it was more like modding a room than leading a discussion as some moderators just do not like leading discussions. However sure we can adjust this as we go along, and learn what is best.

@soulsings Thanks for the response! and thank you @fluffyunicorns84 for the info. I think thats great. Opening up more oportunities to learn and grow is a great idea. We are also in the process of refresher sessions for mods and room supporters on certain topics so watch this space!

@Lorraine234 if they are needed to lead discussions on popup rooms, will they get the privilege to open/close the room? otherwise it would be hard for them to do.

@vivelespatates Since they will be using 3 pop up rooms they will be eligable to apply for doorkeeper. We also have Communities mods available 24/7 who can open and close rooms where needed. Hope thats helpful!

@Lorraine234 also popups was not alloed to exceed 30 minutes, now you say the requierement is 1 hour popup? will this rule change too, then? I mean, when I open rooms and do popups, i always had to limit myself to 30 min, am I now allowed to do 1 hour long? or is that just for those global mods with the requierement who are allowed to do 1 hour popups?

@vivelespatates This would be the same as a ccm going into a 24/7 room and supporting members. We ask them to put the banner up for tracking purposes

I am just not seeing this for the first time... as a Global Mod I am now required to start doing Pop Up sessions along with 1 hour open chats correct ? I would ask that Global Mods be given the doorkeeper badge because everytime I wanted to get a room opened I would havw to go get a doorkeeper in the LSR Room and back then they were there but now the LSR is not always full and usually newbies are in there helping people.. I do see some Peer supporters and Chat supporters but not always and this can be very hard to get done ...

Also do we have to write them up and have them approved ? I always did Open Chats in the rooms and never had any problems I would check the calendar and the lsr room and make sure no one was having one and then start a open chat..

I was told that as a Global Mod we did not have to do sessions anymore so now we are ? I am just trying to understand and make sure and then decide if this is the place I wanna remain a Mod .

Also will the Community Mods being doing the same since they are getting paid and we mods aren't ?

Thanks and sorry for so many questions..

@Tyedyedbutterfly65 sorry I am not sure I am understanding what you are asking, the requirement is:

- To open 3 different pop up rooms and in each of these rooms lead a open chat for a hour ( we ask you to set the discussion banner so that people know the room is open and it will be used to track if requirements are met) . The idea being that the rooms that are not 24/7 get this time to be with the community they relate to and chat with each other on whatever they wish.

You do not have to do anything else on top of this unless you wished to, for the global mod role.

All the internship community mods will be happy to open the rooms for you and are available 24/7 in the rooms you can see their rota here: https://www.7cups.com/forum/SafetyKnowledgeat7Cups_181/CommunityModeratorWeeklySchedule_1640/CommunityModeratorWeeklyScheduleCurrent_197792/

Community mods lead sessions in the rooms they concentrate on, their role doesnt cover the pop up rooms unless volunteer mods need them to aid them in a emergency.

@fluffyUnicorns84 Thanks for your reply I have gotten my answers from someone .. I will be okay I think lol

September 26th, 2019

@fluffyUnicorns84 thanks for that info fluffy! Also just want to clarify that community mods have responsibilities that exceed leading sessions. They concerntrate on safety iniatives and volunteer support. Its not and us vs them thing. They are here to support you. They dont have the same role.

@Lorraine234 I agree it isn't anyone against anyone and the Paid Mods are needed for sure I was only asking to see if they did do Open chats and I did see a Community Mod doing one today.. so thats awesome !! I hope more mods come out into the rooms not only community mods but global mods and gorup mods etc... I LOVE SEEING THE ROOM SUPPORTERS also they are such a Blessing to have around.
