**This past week was really great.. Although I felt it went incredibly too fast~ I absolutely ADORE Christmas season... And I truly enjoyed the time I spent with my family. It just went way too fast. Everyone is always so busy working and doing things, that we just don't have or make the time to spend together that we used to except for birthdays and holidays. So I really enjoyed my time with them this week.
**We had Christmas Eve at My House, and Christmas Day at my moms (who cooked). Everything was so good. And I totally thought I was going to do well, and be "mindful"..., BUT.... I totally went over-board. And it spiraled a little into the several days after. I'm not proud of it, but I did so well up until that point so I have to be proud of myself that I stayed completely on track until then. Time to just "Own it" and move on, and move forward!... No Regrets about it~ I enjoyed every single moment of it all. I did get Right back to working out the Day "after" Christmas by attending a Zumba class.... I am currently still on my Holiday Break from teaching any classes for the next Week~
**I got alot of "Healthy" gifts this year.. My husband got me this awesome Water bottle that will Sync up with my FITBIT!... So that will be cool once I get it synced and download the app.... He also got me a 'Rowing Machine" which I've been wanting for some reason.... (Exercise equipment in this house tends to become a clothing rack at some point since I'm such a group fitness-type person, but I truly tend to use this rower and enjoy.).....
**Waiting to see if my mom is going to have a New Year's Eve get-together at her house or not and if my Son will be off..... But if not, I guess it will be another quiet one with just me, the Hubby and our dog, ringing it in together & watching the 'Ball Drop" on T.V.!... lol...... Today I will be attending the Bi-monthly POUND class at the local warehouse, & still cleaning up from Christmas. Got a few errands to run, and maybe some after Christmas shopping as well... Put some gift-cards to use~. I'm still in my "holiday mode" and not ready to be back in the real world yet~ lol
ENJOY THE WEEKEND AND HAPPY "EARLY" NEW YEAR!~
@PoliteOcean
Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. The water bottle sounds great, I didn't know they had ones that could do that. Seems like a good way to meet your hydration goals.
I hope you have a wondeful New Year!
After being sick for 3 weeks, I have been feeling much better for the past week. I did not exercise at all for 2 weeks, and only once this week so far. I had lost a couple of pounds this fall and was at my lowest weight in a long time. I've now gained 8 pounds and am at my highest in a very long time. I also did not have the energy to do my physical therapy work, so I'm struggling with some of that pain as well. So, I have had a very frustrating month with setbacks, and have a lot of work to do. Most of my extra weight is in my belly, and I am back to most of my pants not fitting. I don't look foward to going back to work and not being able to wear pjs all day.
I did have a nice holiday though. I spent 3 days with my mom and sisters just before Christmas. Although I was sad that neither of my kids could come, I actually treasured the time with just my mom and sisters. It is our second Christmas since dad died. My sister made a swag from cuttings off mom's Christmas tree and holly from a tree in the yard, and we put it with his gravestone, and toasted him with his favorite drink. Our older son spent Christmas day with us, which was also wonderful. Both occasions had a lot of board game and card playing, good food (way too much), and fun. I am grateful to have the opportunity to spend time with my family.
I never go out or even stay up for New Year's Eve. Our state parks encourage "first day" hikes on Jan 1, so I do hope to get out for a walk. If the weather is nice, I might try a new park, about 90 minutes away.
@SadMe70
Hey there Sad!
So great to hear from you this week... Sorry to hear that you weren't feeling well for so long... I was the same at the beginning of December. Takes awhile to get back into the swing of things and gain your energy back. Sorry to hear that you are still struggling with pain. Its so challenging and disappointing to struggle with "set-backs". I can certainly relate on those levels. I do hope that you are finally starting to feel better and recover some. I'm sure the extra pounds are perhaps your body holding onto water weight/fluids. Be sure to try to increase your water if you can and are able and just do your best to start over again. Thats what I am going to do after quite the week of being off track since Christmas.
I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday time with your family, The swag sounds really lovely. Sounds like you all had a wonderful time bonding with each other. Thats the part about Christmas time that I truly enjoy the most. "Just simply being together" with my loved ones.
We don't ever go out or do anything for New Years either. We sometimes go to my mom who will have something, but once again, she's not doing anything this year either, so looks like it will be a quiet one for us again as well. Unless my son decides he wants to come over to our house. Then I might do a little something... I do hope that you are able to get out for your walk/hike! I know how much you enjoy doing so, and I'm sure it will be really good for you after not feeling well for so long.
Thank you so much for checking in this week and letting us know how things have been going for you!... Always great to hear from you!.... Wishing you a wonderful New Years ahead!
@PoliteOcean I got to a state park on Jan 1 and had a very nice 2 hour hike. It was a park where I had not hiked before, and it was not very crowded, which I like. It's on the water and very pretty.
Busy weeks getting ready for Christmas and now through Christmas I can get back on track. Trying to keep food intake at moderate levels. Could have kept more on track, but enjoyed the holiday and will start fresh in 2019. Still too many opportunities to break the healthy diet. Not doing bad, but could be better. I guess its good just to realize this, and try to stay on track. Not easy with guests staying over. Exercise has still been on a positive note and weather has been good so outdoor activities for me. Overall I have kept weight in check over this time of year which is not always easy. May be up 2-3 pounds. Have not been on a scale in a few weeks. Looking forward for 2019, will spend a quiet New Years as a lot of noise is not my thing. Enjoy your weekend and New Year.
@sail46
Hey there Sail!
Awesome to hear from you.. its great that you are continuing to stay on track throughout the Christmas holiday... I feel for me, that while its been pretty easy, that i made it more challenging than it had to be lol.... I could have just not taken any leftovers home from my mom, but I did, so... that derailed me... But I'm like you, will start fresh for the New Year ahead, and not wait until a few weeks in to do so like last year!
You're so right, there are truly are many more opportunities to break healthy eating habits.... But its good that you are keeping your weight in check by just a few pounds. I haven't got on the scale yet myself since before Christmas, but have at least kept up with activity.... And its great that you are doing the same! Good that your weather is still holding out for you to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. Ours has been back and forth with rain for the past two weeks.
Sounds like many of us here will be ringing in a "Quiet" New Year ahead, but nothing wrong with that at all.... Hope that whatever you do that you enjoy a lovely New Years ahead! Thank you so much for checking in this week, and keeping us up to date on how things are going for you through these holidays!
HI Everyone:
I hope everyone had a good Christmas and got to do what they enjoy for the holiday.
I personally find myself struggling a bit at this time of year, more so after my Father's death 2 yrs ago. I still managed to have a decent Christmas I think. Quiet time at home.
Haven't been doing much healthy the last few weeks, everything just kind of went out the window with the holidays. Hoping to start the new year off healthier.
I will also be spending New Year's out home. Don't really like all the noise and crowds.
Wishing Everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!
@orangeOwl1462
Hey there!.... Its so great to hear from you this week!
I have to agree that this is a challenging time of year to stay on track with healthy habits. All we can really do is do the best that we can! Personally I just allow myself to enjoy the holidays rather than limit myself, and just do the best I can to get back on track with the New Year ahead.
I'm so sorry that you are finding yourself struggling since your the passing of your Father~ I'm sure it hasn't been the easiest. But I am so happy for you to hear that you did manage to still have a decent Christmas Holiday!

@PoliteOcean Mostly just reorganizing :)
Earlier this year, starting January 2nd, I started to lose weight. During the following 8-10 weeks, I lost 30-35 lbs. I'm 6'1" and I weighed 128 lbs. I went into the hospital for 4 weeks for internal bleeding. When I came out I started to eat healthy. It's made an enormous difference. The problem is I have a chronic back and shoulder injury, so cooking is really hard. Technially, I'm not supposed to cook for myself as long as I'm on disability, but my caretaker was a horrible cook. I had to throw away alot of the food they cooked because they ruined it. During the past 8 months since I've got out of the hospital, I've gotten to the point where I can prepare better meals. It's therapeutic to cook for oneself. It's enjoyable. The last time I baked a turkey was 24 years ago and I got food poisoning. I had to stay in bed for 3 days. This Christmas I baked a turkey and it came out pretty good. It's so much easier to learn how to cook from watching YouTube videos instead of a cookbook. I find following written recipes to very tedious.
@Regmo
Hey there Regmo! So good to hear from you this week.
Sounds like you really went through some challenges over the past year.... Its great for you that you are starting to be a place that you can do some things for yourself that you enjoy.
I'm not much of a cook, I like to keep things "Simple"... and I find following recipes to be tedious as well. I will admit that I've never tried to follow a recipe from YouTube, maybe I will take a look though after reading your post!
I'm glad to hear that you find it therapeutic and enjoyable to cook... I wouldn't mind being one of those people who felt the same way!... Maybe one day!...And its awesome for you that your Turkey turned out well for you. I hope that you enjoyed every single bite of it!. Congrats on a job well done. Keep up the great work that you are doing, and thank you so much for cehcking in this week and letting us know how things have been going for you!
@PoliteOcean: One of the senior mods of HL said that Healthy Living is about exercise motivation and weight management. Those are good things, but what I am interested in is nutrition. If I post something about nutrition am I going to get in trouble for that?
Hi there!
I don't normally check in here but my usual listener is on holiday so I figured I'd write down how I'm feeling and doing here.
Christmas and New Year were good. Lots of food and drink and I really enjoyed myself with no worries about my weight or body which is great. Got back home properly yesterday and have been to the gym today but I'm struggling to get back on track with nutrition. I've not actually gained any significant weight over the holidays and I'm down 9lbs/4kg from my heaviest. I hope I can settle back in to a good routine soon.
Ideally I'd like to lose another 9lbs+ this year but I just eat intuitively and let my body do its thing.
