**The past week started the "official/un-official" start of Summertime here!...~ Looking back, I'm a little further away from my personal goals than I was at this time last year but continuing to get back to where I was (pre-holidays).. not much further to go...... I started off the week celebrating the Memorial Day Holiday, (rainy weather, no picnics, etc..) BUT.... we did "make it our own" and had our own little picnic here inside the house... made a few of our favorites.. I will admit I went a little over-board, but No Regrets... My husband was off for the nice 3-day weekend, and we had a relaxing time... We were a little on the lazy side that day, but eventually we got ourselves together, the sun came out for a bit, and we hit the outdoors for our afternoon walk.... I burned some AMAZING calories that day... with all the hills, and the heat~..

**I didn't have to teach any fitness classes this week, and it actually felt really good to have that time off from them... I did practice some "new" stuff to take back with me next week when we start up again. And I did attend "others" classes throughout each day this past week and had some fun in those... So I got it in~ Sleep has gotten off again this past week, waayyy off... but Water has been Great!

**Weather has continued to be up and down with periods of rain... BUT... Today, it's taking a turn & going to be lovely, HOT, and Sunnycool... And the pool has finally opened. I won't be there for another week or two though to let the water warm up but it will be good to incorporate something different, and I always feel better and at "peace" when I'm near the water...., going to attend a POUND class today, get my activity in, and then do my usual Saturday errands. Then relax again with the hubby.

HOPE EVERYONE ELSE'S WEEK HAS GONE GOOD~

That is a nice break for you - not teaching classes but attending others. That is probably quite inspiring to you too, like a breath of fresh air. I admire your activity level. Blessings!

Thank you Oak!

And yes it was really nice just having some time off and away and to also be able to enjoy others classes in the meantime.... I always enjoy others classes, and try to learn from them as well to apply to my own instructing moving forward. I think we can all continue to learn something from someone else no matter how long we've been doing the things we love or enjoy!

Thanks again for your kind and supportive words! Blessings to you as well.

Keeping my goal of 10,000 steps per day. Drinking plenty of water and eating light. With yard work, exercise and gardening my anxiety has stayed in check. Wish weather was a little warmer for more opportunity for swimming. Have only be able to swim three times so far. Water is a little cooler then I like. I need the water at 79 degrees for swimming. Keeping the hoilday weight gain off. Enjoy your weekend.

@sail46

Hey there Sail! Sounds like you are doing an awsome job at keeping up with your goals and staying on track.

I know personally, the warmer weather tends to help me stay on track with alot of these things (anxiety, eating better, getting my water in, exercising!).... Sounds like it surely does the same for you as well?!

Its great that you've been able to go swimming already.. and 3 times too!... The pool just opened here last weekend, but I'm still going to give that water another week to warm up a bit since we've had a good bit of rain here from the tropical storms.

Its great that you are staying on track with everything and continuing to check in and let us know how you are doing. Keep up the great work and thank you so much for checking in this week!

This month has been really challenging. My workout routine was disrupted by some health issues but I was still able to do some easier cardio 3 days this week.

I am excited for this month to see what I can accomplish and also a little overwhelmed. I just started some therapy classes and they seem to take a bit of a toll on my mental stability.

Goals for this month: get down to only smoking every 4 hours, completely go to a vegetarian diet (have been working on reducing meats for the last month) increase cardio time to one hour 4 days a week and add some light strength training 2 days a week. I also want to make sure I add some healthy fruit/vegetable snacks

I am in Texas and our days have been over a hundred degrees for almost 2 weeks. Yesterday it was 110 with a windchill of 118!! So since outdoor activities are out of the question for me, I will be doing indoor cardio only. I also plan to drink more water get more rest because the heat here is just so draining.

Highlights this week: I added in some things like collage art and meditation. This really decreaded my daily stress level, so I am happy about that. My stress levels were dangerous.

I have lost 12 pounds (in about 6 weeks) and this has reduced my blood pressure and stabilized my blood sugar. :)

So, all in all May was a good month for me. I am just hoping that June will be as well.

@TeenyTinyAppy

Hey there Teeny! So great to hear from you.

Sorry to hear that you had a set back on your healthy living journey. But its great that you were still able to get in some type of cardio for yourself.

They therepy sessions you are getting, is it for physical health or mental health? If its for mental health, I know that sometimes releasing your thoughts/feelings and emotions and talking them out, can be (mentally and emotionally challenging as well). I wish you the best of luck getting through your sessions.

It seems like you have made some awesome goals for yourself in the coming month ahead!... That is really great. Perhaps keeping a journal of well you are doing either daily or weekly, can help to continue to show you the great progress that you are making?! Its wonderful that you are making alot of great efforts here towards bettering your health.

Sounds like Texas is having a "heatwave" over there!... Those are some very high temps!... Its just starting to get hot here where I'm at as well, but still only in the 80's. But I'm ready for the warmer summer months ahead!..Be sure that you are continuing to stay HYDRATED in those temps!!

I think its awesome that you are adding in other things to stay well-rounded in your health journey such as collage art and meditation!!... I'm glad to hear that its helping with your stress levels. I keep saying that I am going to start meditating 'more' myself, there's a lady here who just started it a few weeks ago, and commented about it here in the community last week, and stated that once she started "breathing" and meditating and working on her breath, that she was finally able to drop THREE lbs in a matter of days by just doing that!...Weight that she was having a hard time taking off before. So obviously there are some great benefits in it, and you all are inspiring me to want to start and keep up with doing it as well! So keep up the great work!

And wow! 12LBS in 6 weeks!.. Thats is Amazing work!... Once again, you have inspired me!... Continue to keep up the awesome work that you are doing for yourself. Sounds like you are putting in some really hard work on yourself to become better in EVERY way!... Keep going and working at it!... I have no doubts that you will meet ALL of your goals!

Thank you so much for checking in this week! Be sure to check back and let us know how things are going for you!

@PoliteOcean Hello! This month I plan to exercise more and eat healthier. I did horribly yesterday but I'm doing better today. Sorry, I don't have a lot more to say. My life has been pretty unproductive lately.

@essdee

Essdee! Its just great to see you!..

I know how challenging it is not only trying to "get" on track, but "stay" on track as well... Its not always black n white, or an easy thing to do.... Its awesome that you are deciding to make a plan for yourself in the coming month ahead! (Would you like to share what plans or steps could help you to move forward in your goals?) Sometimes sharing them with others, writing them down, keeping a journal or log of them can help you as well. Especially when you start to see progress in your goals.

Keep up the great work! And don't be too hard on yourself or let "one" day derail whatever plans you have for yourself! You can do it!.. Thank you so much for checking in this week! It was so great to hear from you and how you are doing.

Thank you for the encouragement @PoliteOcean :) I'm going to need it! It really is hard to keep starting over. Making a plan is always a good idea. As far as a plan, I don't currently have one. I am open to suggestions and hopefully it will help me figure out what is best for me. I just really need for this to work.

You are so very welcome! I'm here to help in any way that I can... If I had a penny for EVERY time I Started, got side-tracked AND had to start up again, I'd be a millionaire!!....

Its just not always a "straight-line", or an easy path... For me, its just always been "day by day"... Start with "Pre-planning, pre-prepping if you have to, and writing down your goals... or at least plan your day (the day before)!... I try to plan my week out (as far as workouts and my meals).. If I know "what" I'm going to do and eat before that day gets there, then its ALOT easier for me to stay on track....

If I were to not plan, then I'd eat whatever I felt like it and not care, or perhaps not even workout...... The key is to "plan and prepare" (the best that you can anyway)... I know its not always perfect, or things might get off track a day or two, but even if you fall off track, get back on track with the NEXT meal, or the NEXT workout etc.... This has just been something that has worked for me personally.. And I know that everyone is different. BUT... I'd like to think that for ANYONE the "key" is to planning ahead, and taking it day by day.

You've got this and CAN do it and succeed!... Everyday is another day closer to meeting whatever goals you have "in mind" for yourself!

It was a leveling off week for me, or rather just trying to survive at work. The office crazies left me exhausted each night as I knew they would . However, I'd had such a great physical result from the week before, I could let it ride and just crash in the evenings. Friday, I walked 2 miles - had to on campus for various meetings - but I was hoping my knees wouldn't show it too much. They did but it was Saturday and so could recoop, even went to the gym. Today, Sunday, knees are recovered so sloooowww and easy wins the race. I hope to be able to get back to 2 miles power walking every other day (biking the alternate days), but am letting my body lead on that one.

Saturday, studied more about the zebras. Be The Zebra, able to calm right back down after the lion has chased her and she's escaped. She's not worried that the lion could have done her in because he didn't. Nor is she thinking about when it will happen again. She goes right back to the present moment and living her life in the now.

There's a wonderful documentary that introduces this metaphor in the actual wild during pivotal studies of baboons that revealed so much about the dangerous effects of stress. It is called Stress: Portrait of a Killer at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYG0ZuTv5rs&t=32s and details Dr. Paul Sapolosky's wonderful research. It's a good place to start and, gosh, there is so much to discover in this realm.

I didn't do as well with my deep breathing this last week. The "lions" at work really distracted me. I won't let them this coming week though. Now I'm off to fold and put away laundry and pack four boxes. I am moving in two months and every weekend am sorting and packing. Getting rid of a bunch of excess. As the excess stuff goes, so goes the excess body weight. Yay.

Blessings all,

Oak

@oakhenge

Hey there Oak! Sounds like you are really making good strides to get back into the swing of things... 2 miles is a great goal AND you made it to the gym as well! Good for you! Way to go! Its good too that while you are doing what you need to in healthy ways, that you are also allowing your body the recovery time that it needs to. Its good that you are not wanting to push and over-do things or add any un-wanted stress to your knees.

Thank you for sharing the "Stress" link with us! Sounds like a very interesting watch. I know personally how too much stress affected my well-being, and I never want to go back to that place again. Taking things day by day and simply taking time to do one thing at a time has helped. When I find the stressors piling up again, I try to take a step back and ask myself, "what" needs to be done "first" , and what can wait and be put on hold for now..... I'm getting better at it... I try to also get my son to see that he doesn't need to be a "work-aholic" either and that he needs to have personal time, vacation time to allow his body and mind to rest. He's "young" though, so he's not fully getting it and simply feels that those at his job can't "do without him"....

Its so easy for stress to catch up with us and take over if we aren't careful and mindful........ .I'm sorry to hear that you haven't kept up with your "deep breathing" this week, but I truly loved your insight on that, and I tried to be mindful of what that and what you shared here with us... and thanks to you , I find myself taking time to think about that more! and try to do it at least "once" daily when things get challenging.

Good to hear that you didn't let the "Lions" at work get the best of you! Keep up the great work. And much luck on your packing and moving... Getting rid of the "excess" feels so great and "Freeing" doesn't it?!!!... Its such a great feeling to release it all. Please continue to check back and let us know how you are continuing to do with things and how everything is coming along for you!..

Take care! And Blessings back!

Hi, I'm a newbie. I have a gluten intolerance and some associated weight issues so I'm trying a more healthy living to feel better. I'm not certain if this is how this thread works but I'll answer the question above.

So this past week was pretty good. I had a huge paper due for my PhD Qualifying exams, but I countered the stress with several bike rides.

I like June, Its my birthday month and swimming starts up! I think it will be a busy month in school, but I have camping coming up too! It will be fun.

I have several trips planned for this month. I'm visiting my in-laws, and we are going camping and to a music festival. I'm also going to defend my MS thesis and do a lot of biking with my partner.

Summer is easier to stay on track. I have a meal diary for June from my nutritionalist and I have two more large bike rides I want to participate in.

Last week highlights were the bike ride with my BFF and my mom and then we all met with our partners for a birthday dinner for me. It was fun!

I'm not certain what to share. I sometimes feel a little silly worrying about my weight because I'm heavy, but not crazy heavy. Or I wasn't but maybe I am now? I'm strong and I get heavier as I get stronger so that is irritating in an ironical way.

How is everyone?

@FawnWoods

Well hello Fawn! Welcome to the Healthy Living Subcommunity! We are so glad to have you join in here with us! And yes, you are on the right track of being here, and joining in our "Weekly Healthy Living Check-in Thread"! Thank you for responding and telling us a bit about yourself.

Sorry to hear that are having trouble with Gluten... I know that is a very common issue for alot of people these days, But its good that you know about it, and are looking into ways to manage it through eating healthier!

Its also great that while you had some stressful concerns the past week, that you were able to manage those times as well by incorporating activity through Bike riding! Its good that you have an activity that you enjoy doing and that it benefits you in so many ways.

Sounds like you have a very busy month ahead of you! Between a birthday, swimming, camping, visiting in-laws and a music festival!.. Sounds like you are going to stay not only busy, but also quite Active!! And that is awesome! Thats one of the biggest reasons I love the summer months. Because theres so much more to do and enjoy and I get to be more active. Whats even more awesome is that you are keeping a food journal/diary!.... This should help you stay on track a great deal!.. Its good to look over your eating patterns and see what you need to or change, or even what has helped!

Also its easy to get irritated with our weight, or fluctuations in our weight... However I noticed that you stated that "I'm strong and I get heavier as I get stronger" Those words are what maybe perhaps you should focus on?! Its good to be "Strong"... A strong body is a great thing to have... I tend to be on the 'Strong' side as well.... So I know what you mean here, and I can relate to that. So keep on being you and staying strong!!.. Don't feel you have to change or conform for anyone else! Continue to keep up the great work that you are doing! And thank you so much for checking in this week, introducing yourself and letting us know how you are doing! Please be sure to check back weekly and let us know how things are going for you!!

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I will keep biking and swimming. Being strong is good, but at somepoint muscles are too heavy for your frame. This is happening here .But You're right, I can focus on how strong I am while I try to find balance. I look forward to posting in this group!

Hello @PoliteOcean and Healthy Living Community!

I haven't been here in so long! :O I am back from my first year of college, whew. My mental health suffered a lot. Healthy living goals for June... I want to exercise more, and more regularly. Maybe running or swimming or dancing, or a combination. I was taking a dance class at school and was in a ballet performance, but now that that's over, I don't have an organized way of getting regular exercise... :/

I hope everyone's doing well :)

Welcome Back!! And congrats to you on your FIRST Year of College! Way to go!...

I'm sure it was challenging to go through that first year, and try to keep up with 'healthy habits'... Its makes sense that one could get off track a bit when dealing with so many new things.

Its great that you are back, and have a mind-set of wanting to get back to living a healthier lifestyle for yourself! (Running, Swimming, Dancing?!) ALL AWESOME Choices!! (Perhaps you could find a "group fitness" class that could help with your goals and continue to keep you motivated? Like if you have a community center, a local YMCA, a gym where you can pay per class, or even just a local swimming pool, or heading to the park with a set of earphones and some music!.... You can do whatever it is that you set your mind to do!....Thank you so much for checking in this week and letting us know how you've been doing and what you've been up to!!... **How has everyone been doing over the past week?!

I've been getting back on the wagon from not exercising as much due to birthdays and prior engagements, I'm feeling better now i'm back on my fitness programme.

**This is our official "FIRST" Check-in for the Month of JUNE..How do you feel about the new month ahead?

I know it's going to be a difficult month for me because of all the things I'm doing and experiencing anxiety about starting July- where I have an internship and i'm quite worried about it. My asthma gets worse as it gets hotter, so I expect to struggle a little more with exercise.

**What things are you looking forward to or planning to do this month? What goals do you have for yourself?

I'm excited to see my relatives again, have my best friend up to my house, and have my parents come to stay. I want to maintain my exercise 5 days a week and keep up with not eating until I feel bloated.

**With the summer months ahead for "some" of us, what plans do you have to stay "on track"?

My fitness programme allows me to reschedule the calendar, and so I can move things around if I miss a day- instead of completely giving up and feeling terrible about it.

**What have been your "highlights" over this past week?

I made ice cream with my girlfriend and friend using frozen bananas and frozen berries. I've also been able to connect more to the people I love now I've finished exam season.

@Flamboyantcuddlefish

Hi there!

Its so great that you are getting back on track and feeling better! I'm sorry to here that the coming month ahead will be a challenging one for you... I find the key to upcoming challenges that "you know about" is to ''PLAN" for them the best that you can and are able. Anxiety can be challenging and get in the way, but planning ahead for things that you know will cause you stress can help with that feeling some. Start small with the things you do 'have control over"... Like being prepared with Asthma meds, taking your time with exerises, easing into workouts and avoid over-doing things when you feel it can cause a flare-up with the upcoming "heat". And then continue on with the other things that lie ahead for you from there.

Sounds like you are looking forward to some awesome times with friends and family! Sounds exciting!... And I also see that you are trying to keep up with your 5 day/week workout schedule! That is really great. So that is one thing there that you have already planned for. Scheduling ahead, planning ahead, knowing which exercises/workouts you want to do on which day, and simply just doing them will keep you on track with that! Continue to keep up the awesome work with that!

Try not to be too hard on yourself if you do miss a day, make an effort to just get back on track the next day. You can do this! I can already here that you have great motivation in your goals for yourself!

Its awesome that you are able to catch up with connecting with others again, AND.. making your own homemade Icecream!! I have seen recipes for that! And still have yet to try it! It looks so good! You've inspired me to find the recipe again and try it myself.

Thank you so much for checking in and letting us know how things are going for you!
