**ANY & ALL NEWBIES!! YOU ARE WELCOME TO SHARE!!
** The past week has been another week that has gone by really fast it seems... Its like the days, weeks and summer are just flying right by me...Anxiety has been low, which is always good.... I had several app'ts this past week that kept me pretty busy throughout the week along with teaching my usual Fitness classes. I kept up with workouts, eating, water, and once again, not too terrible on sleep.
** Had another great turnout @ my POUND Fitness class this past week, as well as my Zumba classes, so that was really great for me. Since sometimes the "Summer" months can slow participation down at times..... The weather has been well, had a few "rainy moments" here and there, but still managed to get in a few days of swimming this week.. Had to miss a few of my evening walks through the neighborhood with my husband though because of the rain we got in the evenings..., for some reason it always seems to rain at 530pm??! And thats right when my husband gets home from work?!... and then it rains all through dinner time, until its then too late to get out. Like REALLY Mother-Nature??!

** Today is my FREE day, (which means I can choose to workout or not, have a treat, or just be a little lazy).... But I'm choosing to go to our Huge Bi-monthly Warehouse POUND Event. Its the only way I seem to get motivated to do a real Saturday workout~ And then on to run a bunch of little usual Saturday errands with my husband......I really wanted to travel next week for the Holiday, but we haven't planned to do anything....I will probably be home for yet another July 4th Holiday, but I'm thinking if the weather holds up, I would like to plan a "Beach Trip" for next weekend perhaps after the holiday....I need a Beach vacation~
HOPE YOUR WEEK HAS GONE WELL~
@PoliteOcean
Hellooooo! :)
Thats what summer does to us... Summer flies by and winter drags on!! For me, even if I make the most of my summer days, it still flies by! Sounds like a busy week, but a busy week that flew by quickly (which is great :p ) youre going great re healthy living in general! Woohoo!
Also amazing that POUND and Zumba class participation is still going strong! Why does the participation dwindle though when its summer?? Ooh, swimming! Glad to hear youre still doing it, and it sounds like fun/relaxing! Fun in the pools sound amazing. Cant wait for summer...
Hahaha nature loves your schedules :p ;) forcing you two to do something different!
Ooh, does the POUND event run every two weeks during the months?? Sounds like fun, and I hope you enjoy it! Beach trip sounds awesome- beach house perhaps? ;)
I hope you have a great week ahead, and happy Independence Day in advance! xx
@rebecca947
Hey Rebecca!..
I don't know why participation slows so much in the summer at times. I think its perhaps that people take vacations and such, travel etc.... but then all of a sudden, "after" school starts back, and up until the holidays and then come January (the start of a new year) classes seem to "swarm" with people. Its kind of funny in a way to watch the "trends" of participation.
And yeah, good old Mother Nature... She's been quite the "jokester" this past week when it comes to raining at the same time each day
. Its like it can be sunny all day, and then 5pm comes, it starts getting cloudy, and then come 530 my husband gets home and we get ready to take our walk, and then "BAM" rain hits! grrrr.....
lolol....But oh well~
And yes, the POUND event that my area has "Bi-monthly" is every other Saturday........ I figure it would be nice if I could get even a small percentage of those same people to come to my new class weekly! lol.... One can have hope!
@PoliteOcean
Hello :D
This week been all over the place my gf left me and I was at a funeral. Ive been staying inside in my room lately trying to feel better but it only makes me feel worst. I have plans for 4th of july with family having a big dinner for the family. also watching fireworks. :D so its good and bad ups and downs but still moving.
@ImEditBtw
Hi there!... Thank you for checking in. I'm so sorry to hear that they left you, and that you had to go to a funeral. That sure is a tough way to start a week out. But, I'm so glad that you had plans for the 4th of July Holiday to spend with those you care about and to have some fun times to look forward to.
I do hope that you enjoyed the remainder of your week! And hope that you enjoy your weekend ahead as well. Take care of yourself and thank you for letting us know how things have been going for you. Be sure to check back and keep us updated!
I've been doing good overall! I've finally started with my regular exercise and work outs, daily! It's definitely harder than I thought but I know it's good for me. Sometimes the exercising itself is not really the hardest part thou. The hardest part for me usually is actually starting it! Hopefully I'll be able tobe consistent ^^
@terrytee
Hey there Terry!.. Its great to hear from you!
Its awesome that you are finally getting to start your exercise and workouts. I know it can be challenging to "get started". But that really is the more challenging part. Just remember to take it day by day, and start small. You don't want to over-whelm yourself, but it sounds like your mindset is in the right place! And that is a great start!
Ways to be consistent that could help, would be maybe keeping a journal of your workouts, and eating habits, ... and also setting a small schedule for yourself. Schedule "work-out app'ts" with yourself and stick to them like you would any other important appointment! Maybe start with one or two days a week, then the next week 3 days etc.... Also, for me, finding something that "I LIKE" , I know I will stick to it! So find something that you enjoy, that doesn't feel like a workout , yet also challenges you too! Thanks so much for checking in this week and letting us know how things are going for you! Be sure to check back and keep us informed on your progress! Keep up the great work!
Things have been off for about a month for me, I haven't been to any specific exercise classes for about that long.
I'm dealing with a chest cough still that has lingered from my cold. It doesn't feel like I need anything to treat an infection (a lifetime of respiratory issues has allowed me to be a pretty good gauge) but it still causes me to be tired out more quickly.
I have still done some activity - been gardening on days when I'm up to it, although I've also found even since the other cold symptoms are mostly gone I've been requiring more rest days for a fairly low level of activity than what I would have needed a few months ago. I have managed to not miss any of the door knocking for the safety program.
One thing I also have done is saved my spoons for times with my nephews. My sister's maternity leave ended today. Last week I had thought about having an easier day at the gym, but going to the beach with them was much more fun! I went to an indoor venue with them this morning. It's not like they are moving away or anything, but being able to do things with them on weekdays during typical working hours is often more enjoyable (a beach with mostly young children, their parents and nannies is much different than the weekend when it is busy with a wide age range) plus they still go to bed quite early. Getting together on weekends is less common, as often both they and we want to do errands plus just spend time with our immediate families. I am really glad I was able to see them as often as I did this past year, I just wish it wasn't over!
I have no plans for the 4th and I doubt I will unless someone does something small and I get invited, there often are a few little celebrations around the city. I do have plans for the 1st. A pancake breakfast in the morning held at the community lake and then I'll be going to a nearby town to spend time with a friend and her sister, a really good friend to me who lives further away but is visiting for the weekend. I'm aware of some Canada Day celebrations there, but I don't know the specific plan. I need to come up with some food to bring, they both are on fairly medically restrictive diets although at least they are fairly similar in what they can/can't eat, so I'll be figuring that out today/possibly doing food prep depending on what I can come up with!
@AffyAvo
Hey there Affy!
So nice to see you check-in this week!.... Sorry to hear that things have been off for you lately. I have noticed that you haven't been around as much as you usually are sometime, so I was wondering about you. I knew that you had been spending time with your sister and such. I figured that things might be off for you, or that you've keeping busy!
Its good that you are slowly progressing to feeling a little better, and that you managed to have some energy to for some light activity. Although I hear "gardening" can be a pretty big activity in itself. I by NO means have any type of "Green Thumb" so, I'd have no clue on the first thing to do when it comes to gardening, however, based on what I've seen my mom and others I know do, I know you can burn some great calories and get in some really great activity while doing it!
It sounds really great that you have gotten to spend so much time with your sister and nephew. Thats the thing about good times, (is that they eventually have to end at some point). I was thinking you were from Canada? And didn't realize there were beaches there? Unless that's not where you were. But I got to thinking wondering what the beach water would be like "there" this time of year? I'm such a HUGE fan of the beach, and don't get to go as often as I'd like anymore.. I could seriously move there and live the rest of my life at the beach. My husband disagrees with doing that though lolol......Maybe some day. lol .... Its good that you were able to enjoy yourself there and have such a great time with them the way you wanted.
Sounds like you will have a great day on the First?!.. A pancake breakfast sounds AWESOME!.... (I seriously haven't had a pancake in "Forever".. I can't even recall the last time.... Maybe I could do that on my next treat day)......But on the Lake none-the-less... that makes it even better! I love anything near the water. I don't have to be "in" the water, I just love being near it.
I'm sure, knowing you, that you will do a fabulous job at coming up with things to make for your friends. I'm not thinking you will have much trouble with that at all. Sounds like you have a great next few days ahead of you. Enjoy!
And thanks so much for checking in, letting us know how things are going and keeping us up-to-date! It was good to hear from you.
@PoliteOcean There aren't really great beaches near here, other parts of Canada have some really nice ones. The community has a gated park with a man-made lake, which is great at my nephews ages - it is shallow for quite a ways out, there are buoys to mark where it drops off plus our annual fee covers things like boat rentals. It sounds like I did good timing with the beach, last weekend they managed to get the aerators working for the first time, so of course that kicked up a bunch of stuff that had been sitting at the bottom for years. People were complaining of a stench they couldn't wash out of their bathsuits! We were there a few days before that happened. Fingers crossed the water quality will improve soon (it sounds like management has a plan), but I hadn't planned on being in the water this weekend anyway.
Pancake breakfasts are a big Alberta thing. Calgary moreso than here, but there are still free ones that can be found around the city throughout the year.
Things have been incredibly rocky this month. Luckily I have a nice celebration to look forward to on the 4th. No important highlights other than doing some more mindfulness.
@CookieBears
So sorry to hear that things have been a little "Rocky" for you over the past month. I hope that whatever is going on, is starting to calm down for you and work itself out!
Its really great that you have July 4th plans. Sounds like you are really excited about those plans and its nice that you will have something to look forward to in the coming days!
And Awesome job on practicing 'Mindfulness'! I try to do that myself from time to time, but don't do it enough... Continue to keep up the great work! And thanks so much for checking in this week!
**How have You Been Doing This Past Week? How are things going for you?
I'm ok. I finished and released my emotions and thoughts. . . I feel lighter.
I create a release book. All month I wrote and wrote and at the end of the moon I reread, faced each page, problem, emotion, owned, and then ripped up the page. Ripping was a way of letting it go.
**This is the LAST Checkin for June, How do you feel things have been for you 'Overall' this past month?
I'm doing ok. I realize I am only responsible for me,
**What are some things that you felt you got accomplished this month? What are your reflections?
I can help others but I cannot make them happy. Others cannot make me happy. I am responsible for my actions and my emotions.
@Rebekahwriter13
Sounds like this has been a time of "letting go" for you?!... Releasing thoughts, feelings and emotions that can hold us down or hold us back , can surely be a wonderful feeling.
And I agree, we can rely on others to make us happy, (although it can be easy to fall into that place).... and we surely can't be responsible for keeping others happy either. We each have our own part.
Its great for you that you have come to all of these personal "realizations" for yourself!... Continue to keep up the great work! Thank you so much for checking in this week and letting us know how things have been going for you!
@PoliteOcean
Heya! Im going GREAT this week! I finished my exam, and I think it went OK... well, hopefully it did haha but now Im feeling SO free and it feels amazing. Im not moody, Im not upset, Im not stressed... Im pretty cheery I think haha havent felt this way for a while due to exams looming over me for over a month, and before that, assignments due etc.
Ive been working out every day that I can (I say that only because Ive missed one day- that was the day of my last exam and after that mum and I planned for my sisters birthday celebration... and then we went shopping together hahaha) Since it was my susters birthday, I havent exactly eaten too healthy... but I think most of the foods we cook for lunch and dinner are healthy ish anyway, so I guess all in all, Ive been eating ok.
Sleep has been inconsistent lol and Ive definitely been very lazy... just staying in bed until late morning. Its too cold to get up, and I dont go to bed on a consistent schedule. I need to improve on that, because I do want to get a workout in at around 6:30am every day. That makes me feel most productive, and Im usually a morning person! It makes me feel more productive and I have heaps of energy in the mornings.
Hmm, next week Im going on a small 2 day trip with friends (I have to pack for that... still havent) and planning on doing a major clean up of my areas of the house. Im excited for that. Aside from that... oh, I have to do uni paperwork stuff (eugh). But I dont have too many plans aside from that!
I hope you have a great week!! Its already July soon! xx
@rebecca947
Hey there Rebecca! Its awesome that you have finished up with your exams! Now you can just relax and start to enjoy your free time more!! YAYY! Isn't it just so "freeing" to get past all of those stressors!
And how awesome that you are now finally finding more time to work on your goals by continuing to eat "heathier" and well as getting in more exercise time!!.... (And its ok to treat yourself like during parties and birthdays) after all, we are only human! We deserve to have fun and treats! But as long as you are doing your best the other percent of the time and getting back on track the best that you can, thats all that matters. Progress, not perfection right?!!
Sorry to hear your sleep has been inconsistent, I certainly know how that can be!.... And its ok to take time to rest, especially since you are in the winter months now as well, (we tend to want to "hibernate" during that time of year)... and with you just finishing up with your exams, its ok to allow yourself some of that extra rest time, and time to just relax and snuggle up in the bed. But I think its AMAZING that you want to get up and start your day at 630am!!!!! Holy Cow!!!....... If I were able to get up that early and start my day, I'd be SUPERWOMAN!!!!..... Thats awesome for people who are able to do that, but my body just refuses to "do mornings"!! lol.....But its awesome that you feel Productive!!! Perhaps you could "bottle up some of that energy and send it to me"!!! lol.....
Also have fun on your trips!....Sounds so exciting! It will be July (mid-summer) and I still haven't planned any trips just yet... I'm really hopint for next weekend though... I'm sure you are going to really enjoy them! Sounds like so much fun!
And its great that you are going to make time to clean up your area in the house..... I totally need to do that as well. But just seem to keep putting it off. (Like closets and dressers) I have SOOOO many clothes and shoes, I need a whole new house for them all! lol...
Have a great week ahead and will see you in "JULY'!! LOL........ Thanks for checking in this week and letting us know how you've been doing!
@PoliteOcean
It feels like Ive run a marathon and finally finished XD love the end of exams! Time to recharge...
Progress not perfection :D agreed! Need to keep reminding myself of that, especially when it comes to physical health. As long as youre better than you were yesterday, thats important.
Oh yes, hibernation! My bed is my cave :p The plan is early awakening, the reality will probably be 11am wake-up!! Although I had to wake up at 7am today and it was ok once I got up. Just the will to get out of bed is challenging! Hahaha let me send some energy your way! A glass full coming your way!
Haha whoops, regarding the trip... I didnt realise it was a two night stay... my mum is not going to be happy with me once I tell her because Im leaving tomorrow... *hides* hopefully next weekend it doesnt rain for you! Night time at the beach is amazing in my opinion.
Hahaha the thought of cleaning up is not fun, but the doing part of it once you start I find enjoyable :p wardrobe clear-out is nearly done!
Its July 1st for me today! :D see ya in July! :p
This week was a bit less hectic. I cut back the goat milking to once a day, so I could do other things in the evening. (I had to do them twice a day right after all their babies left because they were too uncomfortable go to 24 hours in between when they were used to babies drinking all day.) I used up a lot of milk making cheese and since I'm getting a little less, I am keeping up with that better. I still haven't set up my garden irrigation, or done any of my other outside or inside projects.
I spent a lot of time watching World Cup games while I made cheese since I have to be in the kitchen basically all day when I do that. I managed a little bit of cooking. Not much, but it was tasty. I hope to make Shepherd's Pie this week, which I haven't made in a really long time. We went out to our favorite restaurant one night. We know the owners and they always sit and visit with us so it's more than a meal, it's a long, fun social evening for us. We rarely go out other than that, but that is something we both enjoy.
I also hiked 4 times this week! Twice I did a 5 mile path, and two shorter hikes. I would like to have seen some weight loss to go along with that, but at least it was fun. One of the short hikes was on a day I was getting depressed and just wanted to lie in bed all day, but I forced myself out and the woods and sun helped me.
I have no current July 4 plans, but I'd really like to go see The Incredibles with one or both of my boys and the gf and wife. I have not been to fireworks in years. I am not into crowds and really hate sitting in traffic to go back home.
@SadMe70
Hey there Sad!...Its so great to hear from you!... I'm so glad that things have been a little less hectic for you this past week! Its great that you have managed a better schedule for yourself to allow yourself a little more time.
Its good that you have managed some more time in the kitchen for some cooking time. I have heard of Shepards Pie of course, but have never had it before!... I have always wanted to try it, but have just never had the chance. I'm not much of a great cook , so therefore have never tried to bake it either. I have heard a few mixed reviews on it in the past, but it looks really good to me. Would love to try it one day!...
I think its Awesome that you managed to get out and enjoy yourself!... Its the "small" things, isn't it?!... Just special moments like that, that keep us feeling good and in good spirits! Its the same with us, other than our usual weekend errands, we don't really do much either...So glad that you were able to get out and enjoy yourself a bit. You deserve it!
And wow!! FOUR Hikes!!.. Look at you!!...That is awesome work! And how great for you that you were able to push through the depression and rise above it to get out and get moving. That is wonderful! The sun certainly does help with my moods as well. All the more reason I love the summer so much. Don't know if you have ever heard of a 'S.A.D.' Lamp? But its a lamp that emmulates the effects of the "Sun"... its for those that suffer depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder.... I'm certainly going to look into getting one, and thought I would bring it to your attention as well just in case you were ever interested in checking it out?! But, that is amazing for you! Keep up all the great work! Glad you had so much fun.
You sound really positive about things from this past week, I hope that things continue to go well for you in the coming week ahead! ... and hope that you make it to see some fireworks too!.. I personally haven't gone to see them in years myself. Not sure how long its been, and like you, I am not into crowds myself either... If I'm lucky, the neighbors usually light them off and I get a chance to see a few here and there from my front porch! lol....Thats just as good for me!..lolol....If you do make it out, I truly hope that you enjoy!
Thank you so much for checking in this week and letting us know how things have been going!
@PoliteOcean I made the shepherd's pie and it was really tasty! I never heard of a SAD lamp. I will look them up. Thanks!
Keeping up with exercise and healthy eating. A couple of family reunions coming up, have to watch the calories. Getting a lot of swimming in which is very healthy and relaxing way to exercise. Wish summer months were longer cant believe July 4th this week. Will spend it relaxing and swimming away from the crowds. Enjoy your weekend.
@sail46
Its great that you are continuing to keep up with all of your Healthy Habits!... And wow! A "Couple" of family reunions?! That sounds like a whole lot of fun coming up for you. I miss those. We use to have them so often, but the older everyone seems to get, the less everyone is in the mood for continuing to do those types of things.
Its great that you are also continuing to get in alot of swimming time.....The summer is flying by so fast! I need to ramp up my own time in the pool as well!
Continue to keep up all the great work that you are doing. Sounds like you are really doing a great job with staying on track this year! Thanks for continuing to check in each week and letting us know how things are going for you!
New to this community. I'm interested in learning new things and meeting new people. Everyone enjoy the remainder of this month of June! :)
@Macaiyla
Hi there! Welcome to our Healthy Living Subcommunity! We are so glad to have you join in here with us. We are here to support you if yhou have any questions or concerns, we will repsond in the best way that we can. I am Ocean the Community Mentor here in this community. Thank you for joining!
Hello! This week I started a day treatment program. It has been intense and overwhelming, and I am emotionally exhausted often. After the first day I wanted to quit... but I went back. I like my therapist there. I am making friends. I am learning tons of new skills I seriously need. (It's a DBT program)
I'm also home alone with my dad for the time being as the rest of my family is away on a trip. Traveling and being far away from home is also a trigger for me, so this has been on my mind. So with that and starting the program, it's been a tough week for me, but I think it's tough in a somewhat necessary way.
I haven't exercised since Monday... so hopefully I'll get back on that this week. But I've done a good job of eating healthily. I've been doing more cooking than I normally do, since my mom normally does all the cooking, and although it takes more effort, I think it's good for me to learn to cook properly and take care of myself and to make myself healthy meals. Sleep this week has not been great as it has been interrupted by nightmares, but I think I'm doing everything I can at the moment to help with that, so there's nothing more I can do there.
Looking ahead at the next week, it's the anniverary of my trauma, and I'm very scared for that and trying to push it out of my brain. I am trying to use the new skills I'm learning in the program to cope with it better. But I haven't had much practice with the skills yet, and it's hard.
Something I have done well this week is connecting with friends. With just my dad at home, I've been lonely, so I've really tried to text friends, make plans to hang out, use snapchat, and even facetime. I normally avoid people and isolate when I get stressed, so this is good progress for me. And it does make me feel better! I have some truly lovely friends. :)
Hope everyone's had a good week
@lovingBanana5204
Hey there Loving!
Its so great that you have finally started your treatment program... Its not always an easy thing to do or easy step to take. However you did it! And when you tend to like the therapist and establish a good relationship with them, that makes it all the more worthwhile that someone cares, and listens and is supportive to your needs and what you are going through. Its great that you are making friends and I've heard only very good things about DBT so good luck to you with that!
Hope that you are enjoying your time with your dad... I hear what you are saying that travelling far tends to be a "trigger" for you.... That was something that I dealt with as well due to Anxiety and PTSD... So I can relate to you here with what you are saying...I'm sorry that it has been a tough week for you, but I wish you a much better week ahead!
Its ok that you haven;'t worked out since Monday as long as you aren't too hard on yourself about it.... It will all come together and you will get back on track! Sometimes other things need to take priority (Mental and emotional health) and other things too. Its awesome that you have been able to stay on track with eating Healthy! You should be really proud of yourself for that, and for also cooking for yourself more and learning. I'm sorry that 'good sleep' has eluded you this past week, and I can personally relate to that as well. I wish for you much better nights filled with peaceful, restful sleep ahead!
I'm sorry to hear that the anniversary of your trauma will soon be upon you... I have been there. Its not an easy thing to deal with, and it brings up triggers and reminders of the event. But it is excellent that you are learning new things and skills to help you perhaps cope with it better. It will be "challenging" at first, but for me, (as each year passes)... It is still difficult, but does get a little easier, and you continue to use those skills to FIGHT and PUSH through the thoughts feelings and emotions. You CAN do this! You WILL do this, and will ACCOMPLISH this!!
Its really interesting as I read over your post how much we have in common.... I to tend to isolate from others or "shut down" is what I tend to call it. And I know that has alot to do with the stress we feel, the anxiety, the Trauma itself and other things..... Its sort of a coping skill on its own to block it all out so that we can function in some way..... But it is AWESOME that you are talking to others, making plans, calling/texting (Basically whatever you have to do to stay in a GOOD place for yourself!) That in itself just goes to show how much STRONGER you are becoming!!..... You've GOT THIS!!!... I'm here for you if you ever need to talk, chat, vent etc.... We are all here to support you!...I'm glad that it sounds like you have some truly great friendships that also help to support you and help you through!...
You my dear are doing a great job! Continue to keep up the great work that you are doing! And thank you so much for continuing to stay in contact and let us know how things are going for you!!
