Grim's Flower Press
So, friends... I kinda love gardening and collecting plants, and finding out as much as I can about them. Now, a couple of days ago, I came across this method of pressing flowers using a clothes iron. And then lo... I saw some yellow Wedelia's growing and decided to experiment. I got some parchment paper, and then put the paper between sheets of newspapers and then ran my Iron over it. Pretty soon, they were flat and almost crispy 😁 I put them on a white sheet of paper, and it looked cute (despite the fact that they were big and a bit tough to flatten). So here's the results:
Does anyone else dry/press flowers? If yes, I'd love to see your art and hear about your methods.

My friend did this for her 21st birthday, and we all brought flowers.
The result was brilliant!
I also have some flowers as a memory from my granny's funeral, that were freeze dyed!
They are very special to me!

@Amanda84 Oh that's so sweet! A great way to preserve memories 💗 I had come across this website where they make handmade jewelry, and I bought a couple with daisies and one with a Japanese Maple leaf. They were dried and set in resin. I wonder if those were freeze-dried too. Just had a thought that preserving flowers through jewelry could be lovely and meaningful. What kind of flowers were they, for the birthday?

Everyone had to bring someone different, do it varied from daffodils, to tulips, to roses, lilies!
@Amanda84 Ahh, tulips... absolutely gorgeous plants. I really wish I got some tulips here 😅 But meanwhile the rest suggestions I can do too. It must've been so fun for you guys 😊 I'd love to see the pictures, if that's possible.

I used to do it as a kid, i just pressed them with books and glued them to the pages of a notebook i had xd. Its so fun though 😁😁

also about the glue.. well i guess any kind ruins it a bit, but from my experience, glue stick only the edges works the best. however it mostly depends on the brand you're using, and well i kinda used local brands so can't advise any. try them on some works that you won't mind getting messed up a bit😁✨
you can make herbarium book if you want to it look beautiful if you are interested in this and make sure they dry properly and don't have any fungus before putting inside book
@heartfulMusic7263 Oh so that's what it's called 😃 I love the idea, and will be making it. I got a lot of plants. Thank you, haha. Just in the previous response to a reply I said I want to press a fern leaf <3 But I guess I have to be careful about the fungi true... it's very humid here for a month or two and I think the usual press method would cause a fungus infestation 🤔 Using an iron would just blacken the leaves (per the article I read where I got the technique).
@heartfulMusic7263 that is what worried me, as they can still go mouldy if there is moisture in them

@GrimSox I do! I collect leaves, branches, flowers, pinecones and more and I just let them dry out. People most often give me pinecones.
@GrimSox To be honest, I keep most of them in a box, and I also handle them extremely carefully. Flowers tend to lose petals easily, but I can still keep them mostly intact.

@Phodos Yes, absolutely!! I really appreciate that you value the fun aspect too, rather than always having the competitive perfectionism that makes us compare, hehe. We should do things for fun, and maybe sometimes we create something really cool while we're in the zone 😊
Grim!!! I also press flowers and I love it! Well flowers and leafs and when the leafs are dry I paint them it's one of my favorite things to do.... I'll paint them bright colors or covered in glitter or I paint little scenes on them...and for a picture I unfortunately have them all in storage so I'll have to post a picture in the next few weeks when I can get them out 😊😊😊

@GrimSox I hang them upside down and make sure the petals are inthe right place then between tissues in a heavy book, and keep changing the tissue.
@CocoaCassie Yayy!! I tried that and I got this. I pressed them a bit for the scanner, but I liked how they look a bit pressed. Love the cottagecore vibes, they also look pretty just regular dried (not pressed) to me 😊 Nice to meet another aficionado. Do you have some favorite flowers? Or maybe you make something with them? I was wondering if these could be used for soaps or perfumes 😀
