Hobby Zone “Make Time Challenge!”

Welcome to the Hobby Zone “Make Time Challenge!”
Greetings fellow hobbyists! As it is “self-care week”, I thought we could talk about how our hobbies can be an important part of self-care!
Self-care is made up of everything it takes to stay healthy, this includes basic hygiene, nutrition, medical care, exercise, but also means taking care of our mental and emotional wellbeing.
Oftentimes when we think of self-care we can see it as a list of chores and tasks that aren’t always intrinsically motivating, and may even be unpleasant. But our hobbies can serve an important role in improving and maintaining various aspects of our health, and can be aspects of self-care that we enjoy and want to spend more time doing.

The ‘Make Time Challenge’:
The object of this challenge is to make a point to take the time to engage in your hobbies as part of your regular self-care routine! It can be easy to dismiss our hobbies as a selfish or a wasteful use of our time. Taking a few hours to sit and read a book, write a poem, listen to music, or maybe make art or other crafts, can often feel like we should really be doing something else. We may think there are ‘more important’ things that need to be done. So we relegate these activities to our “free time” of which there never seems to be enough and so our hobbies get neglected. But self-care IS important, and spending time with whatever hobby you choose while on the surface it may just look like fun, is also self-care!
So this week, and in the coming weeks, I challenge you to schedule a time to dedicate to engaging in whatever hobby you choose rather than saving it for when you have free time, make a point to make the time for it on a regular basis!
Dust off those knitting needles, break out those coloured pencils, spend time with your plants, make that new recipe you’ve been wanting to try, or read that book you’ve been meaning to for months now.
Practice your self-care, make the time for yourself, and not only as an afterthought!

What hobby, or hobbies are you going to “Make Time!” for?
Tonight I am going to paint some sunflowers and marigolds that I saw. Watercolor painting :)
How often and how much time will you make?
I will try and paint every evening and create a task, so do the under layer, or mix all the colors, or do a glaze layer!-
Can you identify what makes this hobby, self-care and an important part of your health?
I find that the creation of something is exciting and positive and that I personally find watercolor painting soothing and calming :)Love this challenge! Thanks for thinking about it @EmotionsListener

@MistyMagic I love watercolor painting!!! 😍😍😍😍😍🎨🖌️🖍️ I do art and craft as well... not as much as I used to. I'm thinking of getting back to it.
@sweetrosa1987
I hope you find your way back to your art and crafting hobbies, maybe you can "make time"? 😉
@sweetrosa1987 Me too! There is something very special about watercolour painting!

@MistyMagic
Watercolour painting sunflowers and marigolds sounds lovely! I hope you were able to get started and are on your way to making time for your painting! Having clear tasks set out to achieve each time you make time can be another great way to stick with it! I'm glad that you get to experience the satisfaction of completing something new, and that the process is also soothing for you!
Cheers to "making time!" Maybe you can even share your results with us? 🌻🌻🌻
@EmotionsListener I did very bravely share a watercolour painting of 7 daisies for the 7 Cups birthday 😂

@EmotionsListener
Thank you for this wonderfully helpful thread!
It's a godsend. I need this.
1. I am going to “Make Time!” for drawing and painting.
2. At least 1 hour 3 times a week. Minimum.
3. It makes me focus completely and clears my mind from other stuff, I get a great sense of fulfillment, it exercises a part of myself that's always neglected, it boosts my self-esteem when I do what I deem important overcoming daily life distractions.
@HealingTalk
I'm glad you were able to find inspiration from this challenge. Sometimes we need to be reminded!
So do you have a favourite subject you like to draw and/or paint? 🎨 Taking an hour a few times a week sounds like a great way to clear your mind, focus on your art, while also taking care of a neglected part of yourself! It can be hard when we relegate things we enjoy to the "unimportant" list, and forget that having quality of life and doing those things is important, not always for the output but for the experience we have in doing them!
Thank you for "making time" for you! I hope you will share some of your results with us. 💟
Lovely post @EmotionsListener 😊
What hobby, or hobbies are you going to “Make Time!” for?
I'd like to make more time to do some painting and some gardeningHow often and how much time will you make?
Maybe one artwork a week and an afternoon in the garden 🌻Can you identify what makes this hobby, self-care and an important part of your health?
Both painting and gardening is really helpful for me to unplug and put my devices down and get lost in the flow of the hobby ☀️
@Lou73
Painting and gardening sound great, maybe even painting in the garden? 😊
I know gardening can be harder to schedule as weather gets a bit of a say in that as well! 🌞 But I hope it cooperates so life won't get in the way of making time!
It's true often times engaging in our hobbies means taking time to unplug from our devices and all the other demands on our time and just be present in the moment which can be very centering!
Thank you for joining in and "making time" for yourself! I'm sure your plants will love it too! 🌷🌼🌻🌹
@EmotionsListener
It's really great post!!
1. I will try to "make time" for doing work out. I am a bit lazy so I often avoid doing work out or I ended up doing it after some days because I don't like to do much physical activities. But I am trying my best. I started cycling since few weeks ago and I go for evening walk but I want to make time for work out as well❤
2. I will try to do it daily and probably for half an hour at least. Let's see 👀
3. It's surely helpful for my physical health and it's good way to practice self care 💖
@LovetoGod
Making time to get some physical activity sounds like a great idea! Hopefully you can find activities you enjoy to help keep you motivated? I know sometimes I pack a picnic when I want to go for a bike ride that way it's about more than just the exercise to help motivate me.
Half an hour a day sounds like an ambitious goal, I hope you are able to make it a reality as well! As you say it can be good for your physical health. Maybe if you find ways to enhance it and enjoy it more it can be even better for your overall health? 💃🏻
Thank you for joining our challenge and good luck in "making time!" 💝
I suppose I should take my own challenge shouldn't I? 🤣

What hobby, or hobbies are you going to “Make Time!” for?
I've been crocheting a lot lately, but I know I haven't been reading as much as I want to, so I think that I am going to aim to make time for reading as well!
-
How often and how much time will you make?
I'm thinking I may make this a daily practice where I spend an hour each morning before I 'check in' online to read. I'm a lark so I'm often up early in the morning, but know that often times once I sit at my laptop my day rapidly slips away to the screen.

Can you identify what makes this hobby, self-care and an important part of your health?
For me reading is a bit of an escape, I often read fantasy or sci-fi books which often mean I get to travel to a different world with different rules and realities, so it exercises my imagination. I also find that I am able to empathize and experience a range of emotions with the characters without the pressure to resolve those emotions which can help me practice my own emotion regulation and "radical acceptance" skills. Also as others have also mentioned hobbies can often be a way to take a time out from the stresses that often nag at us the rest of the day, I find reading is one of my hobbies that is particularly good for this!
So hopefully, 🤞🏻, I will make time! For me, I find I have to actually write it in to my schedule along with appointments or other events if only to remind myself that I made this commitment to me.
@EmotionsListener
Yes we should self care and make sure no one tells you off looking after you. Thank you for that so helpful.
@purpleSea7109
It's not selfish, it's self-care! Right?
@EmotionsListener
I wish that I had a answer to that.
I am still here for everyone.
Thanks 7 cups of tea and family. XX

What hobby, or hobbies are you going to “Make Time!” for?
Reading and dancing (I thought about putting more than two, but I am pretty sure I will not make time for more than that).
Can´t remember the last time I danced, it feels dumb in the beginning but later I don't want to stop.
-
How often and how much time will you make?
Once a week, on weekends, one hour for each minimum.
-
Can you identify what makes this hobby, self-care and an important part of your health?
Reading feels like I am growing, I feel my mind gets more happy and expanded.
Dancing makes me feel like a child, not putting limits on how I want to move, it is a sense of joy and freedom.
@mary31
Thank you for joining in our "make time challenge!"
Reading and dancing sound great! And it's okay that the list of things you would like to do is longer, I find it's better to make a commitment to yourself that you are likely to be able to keep. If I try to do too much I often find I don't do any of it.
Dancing sounds like an important activity for you! I hope that you will feel that energy that makes you not want to stop once again. I know I tend to "dance" (I use the term loosely) when I'm doing my housework and getting things done, because it helps me get up and move.
I hope your weekends will now have a few hours of reading and dancing. Especially as expanding your mind, finding freedom and joy all sound like great things these hobbies can do for you!
This post made me think of all the many hobbies I don't seem to have the time or energy for anymore.
My hobby right now is 7 cups. My project right now is self improvement. Time spent on this site makes me feel more positive so is a step towards future hobbies. I will continue to make time for this.
Thanks for reminding me it is time well spent.
@Clio9876
I'm glad you have found time for self care and self improvement, and I do hope that it is indeed a step toward future hobbies for you, and that you will once more be able to find the time and energy for those which you once enjoyed as well.
Time spent engaging in fun activities is indeed good for you, and is certainly time well spent!
@EmotionsListener
1. What hobby, or hobbies are you going to “Make Time!” for? Meditation
2. How often and how much time will you make? Daily
3. Can you identify what makes this hobby, self-care and an important part of your health? Meditation can lead to a state of deep relaxation and a calm mind. During meditation, I can focus my attention and shut off the stream of confused thoughts that can flood my mind and cause stress. This process can lead to better physical and emotional well-being 👌😌
@Helpingheart23
Meditation sounds like a great thing to make time for daily! I'm glad you find the practice beneficial to your physical and emotional well-being. Do you find you have a specific meditative practice or routine that works for you? Do you have a space where you can go and meditate?
Thanks for joining in and "making time!"
@EmotionsListener

Thanks for joining in and "making time!" my pleasure 😊
@EmotionsListener making things is such a great thing. I go to an art class once a week where we make different things every week. I made a bracelet last week.
