Perserverance despite life’s challenges

In my first reflection of skills, I talked about what skill I have already developed.  It was easy for me to talk about well because it’s not a struggle for me anymore.  So for this post I decided to talk about the one I seem to currently be struggling with the most.  And that is perserverance.  Perserverance is something that I struggle with on a daily basis still.  As someone who has severe chronic medical issues that require continuous medical treatments and interventions, perseverance is what I need the most in order to keep going despite life’s challenges.  I often find myself asking why is this so hard, why can’t I keep going?  And the truth is because I’m lacking perserverance!  I have no idea how to keep going when the going gets tough.  Some way, some how, I just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep going.  And although it doesn’t feel like it at times, I guess I am developing perserverance every single day.  Because I really don’t know how to persevere during life’s challenges, I’m looking to those of you who might have perserverance as a primary skill.  How do you perservere when life is hard and it feels unfair.  And things keep spiraling out of control.  Where do you find your perserverance?

@Kristynsmama You said you lack perseverance, but these are your words....

"Some way, some how, I just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep going."

At the end of the day, that's really all you can do. That's how it begins. Every day you have to make the decision to want to keep going. Taking each day one at a time for what it is. I'm so sorry for what you have to go through but I think you are quite strong! Keep on persevering the best way you know. You know how people say focus on the journey, I do believe that's true. Celebrate your wins for the day... no matter how small you may think it is. And while you are on your journey to getting better and healing, continue to make the difference you are by helping others. You are putting good out in the universe. Please continue taking those steps and keep on putting one foot in front of the next. Please know you are strong and can get through this. I am so proud of you and hope you will be ok. You say you lack this but considering, you are doing amazing. ♡ Take care!

Thank you for your response.  I can’t tell you how much your words mean to me.  I guess in the grand scheme of things I really am persevering.  It just really doesn’t feel like it sometimes.

I do so by not giving up. I do my best to keep going and not stop. But I also take breaks. A lot of them. Because breaks are crucial under such circumstances.

That is an excellent question that I wish that I knew the answer to.  I guess that for me, I just have the positive outlook on things that I need in order to persevere despite life's challenges.  I have found that if I avoid asking myself the question, "Why," and I ask myself, "How," instead, it changes my perspective and when I have a positive outlook on things, it's much easier to persevere.

First off, major props for being real about your struggles, especially with something as heavy as perseverance. Dealing with chronic medical issues is like facing a boss battle every day, and it's okay to feel the weight of it all.

When life's hitting hard, and it feels like the universe is playing on a tough setting, finding perseverance can be like searching for a hidden power-up. Here's what some folks do to keep pushing forward:

  1. Break it Down: It's like tackling a massive raid boss. Instead of looking at the whole battle, break it down into smaller quests. Focus on one step at a time, and it'll feel less overwhelming.

  2. Lean on Support: Even superheroes team up in tough times. Surround yourself with a crew—friends, family, or even a support group who gets what you're going through. Sharing the load makes it lighter.

  3. Mind Games: Your mind is a powerful ally. Try flipping your thoughts. Instead of asking why it's so hard, remind yourself how far you've come. Celebrate those small victories—it's XP for your perseverance skill.

  4. Fuel Your Motivation: What's your "why"? What keeps you going? Whether it's dreams, people you love, or just proving yourself wrong, keep that motivation tank full. It's like your secret weapon.

  5. Embrace the Breaks: Even warriors need rest. It's okay to hit pause, gather your strength, and then jump back into the quest. Resting isn't quitting; it's strategic gameplay.

  6. Celebrate Progress: Every step forward is a win. Acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. It's like leveling up your perseverance skill—XP bar inching higher.

And hey, remember, it's okay not to have all the answers. Perseverance is a skill that levels up over time, and you're putting in the work every single day. You got this. The fact that you keep going, even when it feels impossible, shows a strength within you that's nothing short of heroic.

Hello, Kristy! I hope that you're having a wonderful day. I completely agree with you. Perseverance can be incredibly challenging, especially when you're faced with chronic medical issues and continuous treatments. It's understandable to question why things feel so difficult and wonder how to keep going when life seems unfair and out of control.

I know that finding perseverance in these circumstances is not easy, but it's important to remember that you are already demonstrating perseverance by putting one foot in front of the other and continuing to move forward despite the challenges. Acknowledging your efforts and the resilience you show every day is a significant step!

When it comes to finding perseverance, different strategies work for different people. Some individuals find strength in their support systems, leaning on loved ones for encouragement and understanding. Others draw inspiration from personal goals and aspirations, focusing on the bigger picture of life and the positive outcomes that they hope to achieve.

Seeking out sources of motivation, whether through hobbies, passions, or even self-care practices, can also help replenish your perseverance reserves. It's all about finding what resonates with you and what helps you stay motivated during difficult times.

Remember, Kristy, developing perseverance is a journey, and it's okay to have moments when it feels overwhelming. Be kind to yourself, celebrate the small victories, and reach out for support when needed. You're not alone in this, and I believe that you'll continue navigating through life's challenges by putting yourself on the road of perseverance and trying your best. You can do this! 💛✨

First of all, thank you for sharing this vulnerable side of you. Your post has no doubt helped many others.

I still struggle with perseverance. I don't think there's a single person that can truly say they never do. Sometimes we have our good days, sometimes life gives us a kick in the teeth; that's when we start thinking negative thoughts.

We seem to forget everything we've been through over the last few years and how far we've come. The unexpected is the hardest to overcome, but I find thinking back to all the struggles I have previously been in and realise, this isn't anywhere near as difficult as what I've been through before.

I can do this. My own personal history has demonstrated as such. I worried and had a mental breakdown previously and it was all for nothing. I caused myself stress over a situation that ended up working itself out. I allowed my illogical fears to take control and do more damage than good.

Personally, making sure that I keep myself grounded in reality is the most helpful thing for me.

It's never as bad as it seems.
